NOTE: The amount of activity on this page has been astounding, so thank you. I did have to make some comments to set one person straight who came here with the intent of making this discussion a “race war” even though nobody brought up race other than this specific individual. I will not tolerate such foolishness. Other than that, I’ve approved and published every single comment and will continue to allow for the free flow of discussion on the issue of whether John McCain or Barrack Obama will be better for real estate investors. Thank you! — Bryan Ellis
Who will be better for real estate investors? John McCain or Barack Obama?
If you’re wondering, yes I have a definite opinion. I will vote for John McCain as the lesser of two evils. I will not be happy to do so, nor will I look forward to it. But I will vote for McCain, and I have some very specific reasons for it.
However, this page is not about my opinions, it’s about yours. And I’m going to do my best to stay out of your way here as you express your opinions.
Even if your comment is only to say “I support McCain” or “I support Obama” or “I am undecided” please tell us what you think! Also - if you have specific questions about where the candidates stand on a particular issue, please bring it up.
(If you have a substantive comment that you think deserves a separate post of your own, let me know - I’ll seriously consider it as I’m interested in having additional authors here at FreeRealEstateTraining.com.)
I will approve virtually all comments made on this page, unless they’re simply inflammatory with no relevant content. Feel free to express your opinions, and if you want to be really helpful, express the basis for your opinions and the facts that back you up.
One more thing - if you see this page soon after it’s been posted, there may be only a few comments here. I strongly encourage you to bookmark this page and check back frequently, as there will doubtlessly be a lot of commentary here that will be informative and entertaining for you.
I thank you for reading FreeRealEstateTraining.com!

Obama is scary. The guy is totally incompetent and inexperienced, but he’s being presented like he’s the second coming of Christ. I’m voting for mccain.
McCain has voted with Bush 95% of the time. Voting for McCain is like just getting 95% of Bush for the next 4 years. What could be worse than that?
I will vote for McCain as the lesser of two evils.
I don’t agree with what Bush has done even though I voted for him. I will be voting for McCain which I think is also the lessor of 2 evils. I am not happy with the choice we have. Obama is just not seasoned enough for me. I know McCain has voted with Bush 95% of the time but I think any candidate will vote with his party a high % of the time. I live in AZ and didn’t vote for McCain in the last Senatorial election so that tells what I think of McCain but like I said, given the choice, McCain.
MCcain has the chops for the job and will make great changes. Also all should take into consideration that Mcain had the opportunity to leave that Prisoner of war camp in Vietnam, because his father pulled some strings Mcain chose to stay with the other U.S. soldiers. MCcain has guts ,courage and can not be compromised. Obama has some deep dark roots(do your research) that are severeley questionable. I happen to beleive he is the on ramp for terrorism into our great country. Also look at what countries are donating money to his campaign via pay pal. It is terrifying!
I vote for McCain! Obama has too many strikes against him. He says he’ll bring change! What change? This is scary! I believe that he is not qualified to be the President of our great country! We cannot take a chance on him!
I support Obama.
Look at the tax increases Obama wants so he can buy votes! I do not want a second Carter term with 16% home interest rates, & the USA held Hostage by terrorist, Obama has no snickers, words just words, I’ll vote McCain.
We definitely do NOT want America to be an “OBAMA-NATION”.
Not only will he increase Big Government (TAKE from the industrious to GIVE to the irresponsible… bad for investors); but the moral climate will suffer seriously with his support of Programs and Practices that promote immoral, lewd-and-against-nature activity, and death to the innocent unborn.
McCain is the better, higher choice.
Ask the typical Obama supporter and they will not know what he stands for other than change. I am hoping McCain picks Mitt as VP but whoever he picks should strengthen the ticket. I think the bulk of the negative feelings about Bush are due to the negative press. But look at the Congress - they are way lower than Bush. While mistakes have been made in the war I believe that history will show we did the right thing.
First of all enough of this party crap. It’s the best person for the job no matter republican or democrat. If you vote just because the candidate is a party affiliate then you are totally unAMERICAN.
Also, you need to vote not because it’s going to be good for you yourself, it helps, but what is good for the country as a whole.
The idiot in office now has ruined our country and no matter who gets in office it will be a challenge.
This country cannont take another 4 yrs. of Bush antics.
For instance, McCain wants to open drilling in the Gulf; what about the Bekkan Reserve field in the northwest and central US up to Canada. Reports show that there are more reserves there than Alaska, etc.
Why give the oil companies what they want?
This country is, in case you forgot, “FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE” not the oil companies and lobbyists.
VOTE “OBAMA”.
I also agree that Obama will support programs that promote immoral and lewd non ethical. If you look closeley he is also getting money from those types of groups. Folks there is an agenda here and Guess who is the puppet (totally fabricated) OBAMA. Big Government creates big dependency ,High taxes etc. Nobody had even heard of the guy a year ago . He was a city planner in Chicago or something and the area he was in charge of is no better now than it was then. I do not want my children or myself to go where Obama wants to take this great country. I want the pledge of allegance and morals and ethical behavior. The nail in the coffin for me about Obama was the church he attended for twenty years. The vial hatred for this country that came out of the pastors mouth. Obama was well aware of this trash and continued down that road until he got busted. Obama is not Presidential material. He is however Scary. I emplore any one to just do your research.
I agree, the lesser of two evils. Gov. hasn’t a clue to begin
with, so we don’t need someone with little to no experience…
Democrat for McCain!
No offense to the conservatives who have commented but I finally found something that I can’t stand to read on my favorite real estate investing blog of all places and that’s what some mistaken liberal thinks about the election.
Less government, lower taxes, more freedom, more liberty for all.
I cannot vote for Obama. He’s a socialist.
I am not happy with McCain nor the Republican party for their massive screw-ups. I don’t want Obama elected, so I must vote for McCain. If I vote for some 3rd party candidate, that will just fragment the votes and give Obama a chance to win (remember the year 2000 election how the Democrat vote was split?).
I certainly hope that McCain will choose a Reagan-type vice president to keep him true to conservative values, unlike Pres Bush who abandoned conservative values when he was sworn into office (I mean *both* Pres Bush — father and son).
I am voting for John McCain
Obama intends to increas the capital gains tax and other taxes which I believe will take money for all investors
There are no good choices. However, I consider Obama to be the worst choice and none of the third party candidates have a chance so, McCain gets the vote.
Obama=raising taxes on the successful risk-takers that fuel the economy, create jobs and improve the standard of living (that would be us, folks), to pay for increasing entitlements; slashing our defense capability; preventing oil drilling, more gun control, socialized medicine, bigger government, etc.
People can’t name one major thing he has ever accomplished in office, but like him because he is for “Change”. Exactly what change? Who IS Barrack Hussein Obama?
I recommend doing some homework. Well documented book about Obama: Obama Nation, by Jerome Corsi, Ph.D.
No presidential candidate should have the knids of friends and mentors that Obama has. Unbelievable.
Obama in his own words:

The best people for the job aren’t in the running, but there is no comparison between Obama and McCain, the choice must be McCain for now.
As an investor in the middle of a development project, I am fearful that Obama’s economic policies will flatten the economy, raise interest rates, and make it impossible for people to buy the product I will have on the market after the election. I guess the bright side would be all the socialist programs he will have in place, so I won’t have to worry about health care, food, and shelter, after I and my fellow investors go bankrupt.
But right now, I have to go inflate my tires and tune up my engine to solve the oil crisis. Why didn’t we all think of that sooner? I would have bought stock in compressed air and spark plugs.
Based on experience alone and who has the best overall qualifications to hold the position of President, McCain has my vote.
Based on character and integrity, in my opinion Obama has a shady past and has surrounded himself with shady anti-American people. McCain put his life on the line for our country.
If the records in the news are true, Obama will increase taxes across the board. I believe we need to pay taxes, these funds pay for national security, infrastructure, etc. But to increase our taxes exponentially? Our congress needs to cut back on spending, thin out the number of politicians on the payroll, reduce their life long benefits that the average Joe and Jane in the USA has to pay for out of pocket, etc. We don’t need a President that will promote killing our incomes with excessive taxes. We already pay excessive taxes.
I’m voting for McCain. All of those people considering Obama should really do their research and see what detrimental effect he would have on our country overall.
I am supporting Obama, but my reasons have very little to do with politics. The primary reason is that I hear so many people saying they have been inspired by Obama to take charge of their lives. He has given people faith that change is possible– regardless of what that “change” may represent. May of us have become entrepreneurs and taken a leap of faith.
My journey as a real estate investor has given me a new lease on life. It has very little to do with real estate, but I am in support of anyone who gives people back their ability to dream again. Brian, I am definately interested in taking you up on the offer of writing an article about this because I can feel my self getting long-winded already. In fact, I think I will head off to my own blog and continue my thoughts there…
This is really comical. Most people here say that Obama scares them? Really? Why? Because he didn’t grow up in the suburbs of America? Because he doesn’t look like you? Obama has a diverse background, which is one of the things that makes him an excellent candidate to run this country. He has the unique fortune of having seen the world through different perspectives. Our country is no longer a field of white lilies, but rather a cornucopia of different colors and hues.
There is also some crazy idea that McCain has more experience than Obama. My question is: experience doing what? He definitely has more experience at being a politician, but the last thing we need in the White House right now is another good-old boy politician. Somebody please tell me what McCain has done with all of his years of experience. What differences has he made? Whose lives has he changed for the better? I don’t care about experience, I care about results. I believe that’s the reason why there is no experience qualification for the job of President. Being an experienced politician, does not mean you will be a good President. Just look at our past Presidents as proof.
Lastly, please stop saying that McCain will be tougher on terrorism because he served in the military. I really don’t see the coorelation. Especially since McCain spent most of his time in a POW camp. Why do we celebrate him for getting captured by the enemy? Isn’t the idea of war to not get captured? Sounds like he screwed up to me.
I’ve refrained from commenting thus far today, but that last paragraph makes it clear you have a complete lack of understanding of war and a disregard for the soldiers who protect your freedoms. I’ll say no more presently than it is a shameful thing to mock this type of experience. Shame on you. — Bryan Ellis
I think Obama understands that the reason the rest of the world wants to fly our planes into our own towers is because of our politics. We are despised by the rest of the world because we force our ideals and policies on lesser countries, all because of money. The only reason I believe we blew up Iraq, is so that Bush could send all of his boys over there to rebuild it. Do your research on that, and look up “no-bid contracts” and Halliburton while you’re at it. Those guys are making billions rebuilding that country, while our soldiers are dying. It’s truly criminal.
So vote for who you want. That’s your right. But don’t try and make me think that you’re afraid of Barack Obama. Bush is the real terrorist. His terrorism is well documented, so if you weren’t afraid of him, than Barack certainly shouldn’t strike any fear into your hearts.
Im admittedly still on the fence as far as President goes , but I have to comment on the continual thread on here about how if Obama becomes Pres. then he will expand big government . Folks do your research and you will see that during the current administration the federal government has grown more than in any other 8 yr period in the history of this country . This is the same administration that John McCain has voted with 95% of the time . We the citizens of the United States have also lost more of our personal freedoms during the same 8 yr period than at any other time during our history , and if privatizing profits and then socializing losses for the jackass bankers is not socialism under the current govt then Im not for sure what is. I dont even want to get started on this ridiculous bank bailout that was recently signed into law under the guise of helping the poor cash strapped over housed homeowner. John McCain is definately not the answer but unfortunately Im not real sure Obama is either.
Shame on me, Bryan? What is shameful is to call a man a terrorist simply because his skin is brown, and his middle name is Hussien. What is shameful is to suggest that people not vote for a candidate simply because he might cost you a few more percentage points in taxes, and possibly upset your comforatable way of life.
Yes, absolutely shame on you, Anthony. You’ve continued to make your own ignorance abundantly clear. This has nothing to do with your political affiliation, because as you can see, I’ve gladly allowed everyone to express their opinions. My only commentary has been on you, and it’s because you’re acting like a fool. The above paragraph is a perfect example. Nobody has called Obama a terrorist because his skin is brown and his middle name is Hussein. The reality is that you WISH that someone had said. I think it’s quite telling that the word “race”, nor any references to race, happened until you made your post. Don’t be so sensitive about race. The rest of us aren’t. — Bryan Ellis
Is that all you care about…how much money you can keep in your pockets? Do you care about all of the people that are losing thier homes, or the people without health care? Do you really care about the soldiers dying in Iraq, or about the thousands of workers that are being laid off every month?
I apologize if I offended anyone with my comment about John McCain’s service history. I admit that it may have been over-the-top. But I won’t apologize for stating the facts that McCain’s military service does not make him more qualified to defend this country than Obama. Being a POW does not make you a superior military strategist. It just doesn’t. Being a politician for 30 years also doesn’t make you qualified to be President. It just doesn’t.
I’m still waiting for someone to tell me what John McCain has actually done in Washington in the last 30 years. Is the country a better place because of his Senatorial service? Is the world a better place? Hell, is Arizone or Washington, DC a better place?
Service without positive results is just service. Give him a gold watch and a pension, and tell him to go sit down somewhere. This country needs a new direction, and a new vision. You may not think that Obama offers those things, but you certainly can’t believe that McCain does. He’s just more of the same old same old.
Bush lowered taxes and now Obama is going to reverse everything. My vote is for McCain. I pay enough taxes already.
If you go back to 1913 with the passing of the Federal Tax System, come forward through the 1930’s, 1960’s and the 1990’s you will find that every devistating social and economic program that has been enacted is a result of Liberal (Socialistic) politics. If you have a knowledge of economics, history, The Constitution and politics in general, you do not want a Liberal in the White House.
The thing that is scary about Obama is he is the most Liberal politician to ever be nominated by the Democratic Party. The Democrats are all pretty scary if you study their history. Socialists like Obama are in direct opposition to the free enterprise system we as RE investors work under. If youi want an end to Capitalism, just keep voting for Democrats.
For the love of God, do you Republicans ever talk about anything other than taxes? If Obama, or even McCain for that matter, raises taxes, is it really going to put any of us in the poor house? I think not. We’ll keep doing deals, and we’ll keep making money. In the mean time, people will still be dying and starving. But hey, at least I saved $3000 in taxes. Whoopeee!
Stand up and be men for Christ’s sake, and stop whining over pennies. There are worse things in this world that people are dealing with that are more important than taxes.
Bill, I actually know a good deal about history, But the only history I need to study is the last 8 years. If that’s what Republicans have to offer this country, than I’ll take a pass. If all I have to worry about from the Dems is them raising my taxes, I don’t have to tell you which way I’m going to vote.
That’s comical. Nobody who is truly knowledgeable about history would ever say “the only history I need to study is the last 8 years.” Come on Anthony. Hopefully you can do better. — Bryan Ellis
As I read all of these entries I notice one thing in common, it seems more or less everyone is “scared” of Obama and would rather “play it safe” with McCain. I can not say definitely one way or the other but I can say this, you should never vote for someone in spite of the other candidate. Look at what the individual will do for our country, not your bank account.
1980 - “Fiscal Conservative” Ronald Reagan - $200+ Billion Deficit
1988 - “Fiscal Conservative” Bush Sr. - $300 Billion Deficit
1992 - “Tax & Spend Liberal” Bill Clinton - $200+ Billion Surplus
2000 - “Fiscal Conservative” Bush Jr. - $482 Billion Deficit
2008 - “Fiscal Conservative” John McCain??? - Yeah, that makes me feel better!!!
Glad I can’t be drafted. You McCain voters must like the COLD of Russia. I hope you adore fighting in World War III. McCain, Russ, Lavinn, Hannity will send you fools to War but will not lead the troops. I guess with their millions they can go to a netural country and enjoy their money while YOU die for their foolishness. Owning real estate after a nuclear explosion? I’m sure it will be worth a lot? You guys keep following these jerks…Don’t think for yourselves. That’s too diffcult.
As usual the liberals base thier beliefs on what the media says. It is not within them to think that there might be more to the story then then they have been told or can find out for that matter. My professional life apart from real estate deals with watching what people really do when they think no one is watching, confronting them, and then listening to all the fabrications they come up with before they learn that I personally observed the whole thing. And then later, while out in the community hear people who profess to know the facts of the situation (who were not there) spouting off to anyone who will listen as the only one who knows the real truth. Bush may not ever be remembered as one of our great Presidents but I bet as years pass more will be known about what we do not now know.At that point “change” may not look so good. Go set in on a district court arraignment some day and do a gut check on the people you see there and use your common sense as you listen to the stories concocted first as an excuse for the behavior that got them there and second for the reasons they cannot afford to pay!! More liberal programs will only make it worse.
With 143 days served in Congress I don’t think Obama would have found the washroom yet.
While neither has earned my vote, knowing who Obama is and what he stands for scares the hell out of me. This guy is Jimmy Carter’s second term; maybe worse. This guy is not just bad for America, but dangerously so. I don’t vote lesser of evils, but Obama needs to be thrown on the heap of \also rans\.
Yes, Anthony taxes are a big part of what matters to me. I’m an RE investor wannabe. I bust my tail delivering food for a major food distributor. Quite frankly I would love to be able to take home my WHOLE paycheck. I could probably make ends meet a lot better. When you say “Is raising taxes really going to put any of us in the poor house” I would offer that yes it could. Today we are overtaxed in my opinion. Between Federal Income, State Income, Sales Taxes FICA Social Security (that we are not guarenteed to get back at retirement) Medicare/Medicaid. That’s just what is withheld from peoples paychecks. Then we have Gift tax, Real Estate taxes, Inheritence taxes, Marriage penalty, Personal Property Tax, Fuel taxes. That’s just a short list. How many more taxes do we need? I’ll tell you we don’t need anymore. Any candidate that will work to lower these or better yet reform the tax system i.e. The Fair Tax. will get my vote. This candidate most likely be McCain (The Lesser of the evils) Sorry for stepping on anyone’s toes but I take Great offense to anyone suggesting that we don’t pay enough taxes.
Greg, I care about taxes too. It just doesn’t consume me the way it does most Republicans. I’d love to take home my whole paycheck as well, but it’s not ever going to happen.
I just think it is extremely selfish to whine about paying taxes, when there are people in this country that are truly suffering. Why would you pick a President based on how much money he is going to save you in taxes? I just can’t get my mind around that one. It goes against everything that I stand for as an American, as a Christian, and as a man.
I consider it my duty to shoulder some of the burden for those that are less fortunate. I believe it is also my (actually all of our) duty to try and help those that are struggling, to achieve some level of the American dream. Why can’t everyone have a job with decent pay? Why can’t everyone live in a decent home? Why can’t everyone’s child go to a decent school. Oh, that’s right…we might have to pay a little more in taxes to make that happen. So let’s just keep the down-trodden down, while the rest of us keep making more and more money.
I’m far from rich, but I would gladly pay a little more in taxes to make the country a better place for EVERYONE. That’s the problem that I have with the Republican party. They are all so self-centered. All we ever hear is “someone’s going to take my job”, or “someone’s going to raise my taxes”. Or the one that really irks me, “my kid can’t go to that good school, because they gave his slot to that kid that didn’t deserve it”. Who said all of the jobs belong to you? Who said your kid has the right to go to the best schools?
What REALLY scares Republicans about Obama, is they feel that he threatens their priviledged lifestyle. They are so afraid that he’s going to make things better for everybody (ie. Black people), that their piece of the pie is going to shrink. Well it’s about time that everybody got a piece of that pie.
The whole “Obama is going to raise my taxes” thing is just a smoke screen. What they really mean is that “Obama is not one of us, and he’s not going to try and protect my way of life”. Not to mention that millions of people in this country simply cringe at the thought of a Black man running America. That’s what really scares people. The thought of a Black man being the most powerful person in the world.
Anthony, you’re a small-minded fool. You are the only one making an issue of race here. You’re an idiot. And when you get mad at me for saying so and choose to stop reading my blog because of it, I really just couldn’t care less. You’re not an idiot because you support a different candidate than I do, you’re an idiot because you just won’t get past the fact that the rest of us just don’t care about race, while it’s the only thing you can see - yet you blame everyone else for having your narrow mindedness. I don’t care about Obama’s race. Virtually nobody does - except you and Obama. — Bryan Ellis
So vote for McCain, and hopefully he won’t raise your taxes. But make that decision knowing that he’ll do nothing for health care, nothing for education, and nothing for the have-nots. Just as his predecessor did nothing before him. If you can live with that, than may God have mercy on your soul. Have a good night everyone.
I have researched Obama’s qualifications, and find that he has none. His past is not just scary, but anti-American. I don’t get how you all future investors, who believe in the free enterprize system can ignore all of the socialist changes planned by the Democratic Party and Obama, and see that such changes will be helpful to any entreprenuer.
I am not a big McCain fan, but I don’t see how I can continue to have success as an investor with the current plans of Obama and his party.
I have been reading these all day and it has turned pretty bad. I wasn’t going to comment anymore but the last one that Anthony put up was enough. No one brought up race except you. It is not about a black man running the country. I am white and I have no problem with a black man running the country if I think he can do a good job. In fact I would love to see Alan Keyes win. I am a big fan of Alan Keyes. But Obama. No way. Why did you bring up race. No one was saying he is unqualified because he is black. I am tired of people playing the race card when they have nothing else. I don’t like the Democratic party because of what they stand for. They want to control they way we live by putting everyone on programs. You say your a christian? The democrats are pro choice as is Obama. It is not about taxes. don’t put us all in the same group because we choose to vote for McCain. I think playing the race card was uncalled for.
Toby,
1992 Surplus….
A President that can achieve a Budget Surplus A YEAR BEFORE he becomes President is surely what we need! Clinton was a good one wasn’t he?
George Bush Senior (1989-1993)
Bill Clinton (1993-2001)
Great Historian! I’m sure you can tell us where you got your Stats? I’m sure they are completely accurate. Why would we doubt?
Maybe Obama could go ahead and do some Liberal magic like that before he hopes to be elected!
I enjoy a spirited discussion as much as the next guy, and I appreciate the constructive comments made by those on each side of this issue.
That said, I take issue with numerous of the comments made by Anthony. First and foremost, the suggestion that he or anyone else is somehow a better Christian/American/Man, because he’s willing to pay more taxes is ridiculous. I agree it would be great to have this idealic nation where there is no crime, suffering, hunger etc etc.
Secondly, your comments concerning what McCain’s stay in the Hanoi Hilton suggests about his proficiency as a professional soldier. This idea is offensive to anyone who has/is or will wear the a military uniform. The idea that because someone was captured somehow suggests how good they were at being a member of the military. I dare you to make that suggestion to SSgt Maupin’s family who had to wait over a year for Matt’s brutalized remains to be found and returned to them.
Anthony you repeatedly state that you don’t understand why the only thing being discussed is taxes. My reply is to look at the title of this thread “Better for Investors - Obama or McCain.” I would submit that taxes is an important aspect of the investment business. Less taxes for investors and small business owners is definitely better for business. Raising taxes and the subsequent rise in interest rates is bad for business and hence bad for the economy… A strong economy equals more income is being made and hence more taxes can be collected and more money available for fund raisers etc etc… its economics 101.
The point that taxes shouldn’t be the only issue used to decide ones vote is well received and I think most here would agree. In fact many have offered other anti-Obama reasons that you evidently dismissed.
Like many of you, I personally don’t like the prospect of having either of these individuals as my Commander and Chief. Nor, do I like the prospect of having to vote for the lesser evil. However, until Obama clearly defines for me how and why he’s the candidate of change my vote goes to McCain.
** He has given people faith that change is possible– regardless of what that “change” may represent. **
Yeah, who cares what “change” takes place…as long as change occurs. What a riot!
** Especially since McCain spent most of his time in a POW camp. Why do we celebrate him for getting captured by the enemy? Isn’t the idea of war to not get captured? Sounds like he screwed up to me. **
I, too, am repulsed by this comment. Anthony, my suggestion to you is that you walk the path John McCain has walked and then make that statement again. If Obama wins, you may get the chance because terrorists may soon be on our shores. Obama’s an appeaser.
I agree with Anthony that internment in a POW camp doesn’t necessarily qualify someone to be President of the United States except that the experience does give him a unique understanding of what it means to lose one’s freedom, a principal for which he will fight long and hard and that created who we need at the head of government. Government’s first responsibility is to protect its citizenry from enemies foreign and domestic. I do not believe Obama when he says he will fight terrorism. In fact, I think Obama has ties to terrorism, however unwittingly. Time will tell, but I’m not willing to take the risk, so I’m not voting for him.
I agree with Anthony on this one. I don’t think he was trying to play the race card as much as he was trying to point out that there are still a lot of people scared of Obama just because of the superficial things: the flag lapin…his former church…his middle name…his race.
I’ve read all of the comments thus far and still haven’t seen a very good reason to put McCain in the White House. No one answered Anthony’s question: what exactly has he done in the past 30 years that gives him an edge over Obama? Just saying that he’s been in the Senate for 30 years is not enough to convince me that he would make a great President. Experience only counts for so much when you have a country in a desperate state b/c of the idiot in it right now.
I don’t think McCain has distanced himself from Bush enough to garner my support; he got funding from him, supports the war, and keeps harping on the Republican motto of lowering taxes.
The fact of the matter is: no matter who gets the Oval Office, taxes are going to have to go up! The economic state we are in right now cannot afford us a tax break. I think the real issue is that we, as Americans, have a crippling fear of tax. If I had to choose between a President that will raise taxes and spend them properly as opposed to a President that will lower taxes and mispend the revenue they already have, I’m choosing the former. Taxes can hurt in the short run (Lord knows I don’t want to spend any more), but if spent properly, can really help in the long run.
I also don’t think the media is covering McCain’s new idea of staying in Iraq and “winning” this ridiculous war. He almost sounds like a petulant child when he keeps saying, “we won’t surrender”. Am I the only one who wants out? Or is there anyone else that would like to start withdrawing troops in the next two years?
I support Obama because I think he has a clear view of this nation’s current state, I believe he has personal experience of both the struggling Americans (through his childhood) and living the American dream (through adulthood) to give him perspective of the different types of Americans in this nation, he also understands the challenges that face him as a potential Commander-in-Chief and is mature enough to tell Americans that a.) this war needs to end and b.) taxes need to go up.
I even like the idea of this country having a President that is more genuine and not as slick in the White House because he hasn’t been in politics that long.
I love political discussions, but the trouble with them is most people only focus on the NOW. You need to go back 70 or 80 years to get the full flavor of a Political Party. Remember all candidates are in their party because they more closely believe in their party philosophy than the other.
If you study the philosophy of Liberals, it WILL scare the hell out of you. Liberals believe Socialism is the answer to everything. They want the government to control all aspects of your life, which is good for the politicians, but very bad for the people.
Unfortunately some people have bought into the Liberal philosophy, and we are slowly selling this country down the path of:
Capitalism to Socialism to Communism…
Read the “Communist Manifesto” and you will discover the Liberal Playbook.
Keith,
I haven’t played any card, race or othewise. I’m simply stating what many Americans have already stated. They will never vote for a Black man for President. Check the polls. It’s documented.
The word “documented” has a specific meaning. Would you point to the documentation to which you refer? I’ve certainly not heard anyone say that they wouldn’t vote for Obama because he’s Black, and I certainly haven’t heard “many Americans” saying it as you suggest. What is your source? — Bryan Ellis
Everytime someone brings up race as an issue, Republicans always shout, “Foul, he’s playing the race card!”. Why do Republicans never want to talk about race? Is it because you have a poor history of dealing with people of other races? Or is it because if you address it, then you may have to deal with it?
Racism is alive and well in America, folks. Things are better than they were 40 years ago, but they still have a long way to go. Simply not talking about race and racism, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
My being a Christian has nothing to do with my voting Democratic. I don’t actually identify myself as a Democrat. I vote for who I feel will do the most for this country. In my life time, that’s primarily been Democrats. Just look at all of the responses on this blog. The common concern among Republicans is protecting their money and their way of life. I’m sorry, I just don’t think that way. I’m no missionary, but I was taught that there are more important things in life besides money. I want to make as much money as the next person, but not at the expense of someone elses happiness.
Let’s put this way I live in AZ where mccain is our senator, and if you look come to Az, you will find out how bad the school systems are, how bad pay is, you know that AZ is the worst paying job market in the unite states, are you aware of that bryan? have you lived in AZ? If you haven’t then you need to take a real good look at mccain and just as the gentleman has ask what has Mccain done, I will tell you when it comes to Az A Big Nothing, Also keep in mind AZ has on of the worst housing markets in the united states, and also my Wife works for the school system in AZ, and we are last when it comes to education, and the only reason Mccain got in the senate here is because this is a snow bird state and for you that don’t know what that is that is a place in the past and also still today where people of retirement age would go to stay in a better climate becasue of the health problems, and when the season ended then they would go on there marry way. Before you think mccain is the best of the worst evils you need to come on down to AZ and see what it is like which is a state that he is a sentor in.
Caitlin and anyone else in this thread could you please explain why in the world you think Obama has ties to terrorism ? Do you think that there are secret terror training camps in Kansas where he grew up ? Or perhaps you think he went to school in one of the many madrassas that dot the landscape in the midwest . Ive spent some time in Kansas as I grew up in Oklahoma and believe me its hard to hide anything in what might be the flattest place on earth. Spreading innuendo and lies about Obama does nothing to further this discussion it only shows fear and ignorance of someone that has a funny name and doesnt look like you. As I stated before Im not sure I can vote for the guy because I just dont know enough about him , but I am impressed with anyone that comes from a humble background and a broken home and rises to the level he has .
Doug,
The years listed are the years that the gentleman were elected to office. The dollar amount listed represents the deficit/surplus at the end of their terms.
If you can only make accusations and rant about “Liberal magic”, then you must not have a good argument for electing McCain…
I know that this is about real estate and reasons why we would vote for one or the other.
BOTTOM LINE for me is their MORAL viewpoint.
Anthony,
**** “I haven’t played any card, race or otherwise.”
What do you mean by “they” in your next few lines ?
**** “They will (NEVER) vote for a Black man for President. Check the polls.”
I may be “they” (I haven’t seen you) and I WOULD definitely vote for a genuine conservative of the likes of J.C. Watts (he is black by the way) if he himself didn’t waffle on his conservative resolve SOLELY based on his excitement about “CHANGE” to a black candidate who, BTW, stands for completely opposite values J. C. stands (stood) for!
I’d LOVE to see a candidate of color run who stood for conservative moral values on his voting record. (Not just voting “present” *Obama* either when he doesn’t want to be documented.)
http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=5133
Doug,
My comment was self-explanatory. By “they”, I meant the many of Americans that stated they would not vote for a Black man as President. “They” could be white, black, brown or whatever. Their color doesn’t really matter. What matters is that in this day and age, many people don’t think a man of color is capable of being President of the United States of America.
And what morals are you speaking about? When I look for moral role models, I don’t look to Washington to find them. There are example after example of many cases of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sexual abuse, sexual perversity, money laundering, stealing, lying, bribing, and the list could go on forever. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Democrat or Republican. The people we have representing us in Washington, should not be used as morality guidelines.
If you want to compare the morality of the two candidates, I’m guessing Obama would come out on top. They both seem like fine people to me, but McCain appears to have a more sorted past. He had extra-marital affairs while married to his first wife, one being his current wife Cindy. His wife Cindy has also struggled with drug addiction. I’m sure that Obama has been no saint, and he’s indicated as much. I just don’t think that you judge a candidate on morality, because we never really know what a person is involved in. Just look at what Newt Gingrich went though, and what John Edwards is going through now.
Usually when Republicans speak of morality, they’re often referring to two things: abortion and homosexuality. As a Christian, it is not my responsiblity to force morality on the rest of the world. Am I against abortion? Yes. Do I support the right for a woman to do what she wants with her body? Yes.
All we can do is to educate people so that they hopefully will make intelligent decisions. Not regulate their choices, based on our own codes that we live by. We have been doing that in America for many years, and the world hates us for it.
Very Romantic, Kalimah F. Ayele…. I may like to meet you.
How “inspired” are you willing to be?
“leap of faith”
–Maybe we could jump off a cliff together. (Ladies first)
“regardless of what that “change” may represent”
–The above leap will truly CHANGE our lives.
–Some “unborn” human beings have had their lives changed,… more real estate for us.
“(ANYONE)who gives people back their ability to dream again”
–Dreaming in America has now become illegal? Oops… I didn’t know, sorry, don’t tell.
–Let’s get Tinker Bell to run. She wouldn’t take away our dreams.
Looking forward to your Romantic Blog
All I know is that all the changes that I hear him talk about will crash the economy and weaken the country. If elected the day he proposes his capital gains tax increase, what do you think will happen to the stock market?
I will vote for McCain!
Although the Media has done everything they can to promote Obama and he is been proclaimed as the new Messiah that will bring the “change” to this nation, I think that the American voters are smarter than that and they will elect John McCain as the next president of this great Nation. I hope that they also clean the Congress and Senate of many members that need replacing for their lact of action and not doing the job they were elected for.
How Long Does USA Have?
Who want’s to go into business then have the profits taxed away to pay for demo-craps votes?
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
Pa. was lost to the demo-craps because of Philadelphia & Pittsburg. What big giveaway city in your state gave the demo-craps a win?
Though I’m certainly not one of them, I’m going to have to insist you give more respect to our Democrat friends than to refer to them as you have. — Bryan Ellis
It’s so much fun to see prejudices and talking points instead of facts. It show intellectual laziness and and the tendency to follow rather than think for yourself. Go do some research. The economic facts are easy to find and they are very clear. I’ll give you just 2. Over the entire 20th century (so we won’t count the last 8 years) when a Democratic President was in office the stock market as measured by the S & P 500 did 40% better then when Republican was in office. Would you vote to increase you profits by 40%? But wait you may say. Stocks don’t measure total econmic activity, GDP does. Since that has been measured (1930) under Democratic Presidents it has grown 5.4 % on an annual basis, while under Republicans it has grown 1.6%.
Can you answer which President did the following?
1. The highest growth in the gross domestic product?2. The highest growth in jobs?
3. The biggest increase in personal disposable income after taxes?
4. The highest growth in industrial production?
5. The highest growth in hourly wages?
6. The lowest misery index (inflation plus unemployment)?
7. The lowest inflation?
8. The largest reduction in the deficit?
They were ALL Democratic Presidents.
Actually every economic measure except for raise in income for the top 1% of the population is “won” by the Democratic Presidents. That is if you look at the entire 20th century, or break it down fro 1945 to 1960, or 1945 to 2000. or 1960 to 2000, or 1980 to 2000.
Please don’t trust me. Go look it up. The US government, or the Wall Street Journal, or Fortune Magazine, or Slate magazine if you prefer summaries. Just don’t listen to “common knowledge” of talking points.
That’s reasonable, Larry. But generally when one is trying to prove a point, one provides the data themselves, much as I did when I provided a video of Obama saying he wants to raise capital gains taxes (exactly the opposite of what you claimed). So please, give us your citations for the information, and we can have a reasonable discussion about it. — Bryan Ellis
I was just giving them the kind or respect that they give to our PRESIDENT!
Well it has been a very spirited debate the last couple of days hasn’t it? Again I will vote for McCain though not happy about it. I follow both parties closely and I still feel the Republicans have more of my values than the Dems do. i don’t agree 100% with either one of them. I have seen some people post things like tell me what McCain has done in the Senate. What has people like Ted Kennedy done and John Kerry and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. There are also Republicans that hasn’t done much either. As far as I’m concerned neither one has our best interest in mind. they are more worried about themselves and winning.
I feel this country is on its last leg anyway. We are letting illegals take over the country and becoming a nation divided because we have catered to spanish speaking people and bending over backwards to speak their language instead of making them learn ours. don’t get me wrong I feel that everyone has a right to come here legally and work and live here. We have laws also and they want to disregard them saying they have rights. My grandfather came through Ellis Island. He did it legally and learned our language. Stop putting signs and everything in spanish. Again our government is bending over backwards to cater to them and neither candidate seems to want to do much about it. No one can beat our country militarily but we are being eroded from within and our politicians is letting it happen. The one big mistake I think Ronald Reagan made in his presidency is giving amnesty to the illegals in this country. We are on the verge of going under as a country. History has proven that a multi-cultural country that tries to have 2 languages and tries to live with different competing cultures will not survive. Neither candidate has a good plan to deal with this nor does either party. I love this country but I don’t see anyone out there that has an answer.
I was invited to comment on this blog by Bryan Ellis himself, and now he has the nerve to call me a fool and an idiot. What a helluva host you’ve turned out to be, Bryan.
Anyway, I’ve already apologized for the McCain POW comment, so I’m not going into that again. I will say that my comment is no more foolish than the other comments on here stating that Obama is scary, anti-American and a terrorist. I didn’t see you call any of those people fools, Bryan. I guess the only people that are fools in your eyes, are the ones that don’t agree with you.
Wrong-o, mi amigo. I’ve not responded to anything on this page that I disagreed with, save only your unprovoked foray into racist accusations. I’m very specific when I choose to be insulting. — Bryan Ellis
I also didn’t call anyone on this board a racist, Mr. Ellis. That would be a lie on your part. What I said was that racism still exist in America, and there is no denying that fact. Racism may not exist in your suburb, because probably everyone there looks like you do. But trust me, in other more diverse parts of the country, racism is alive and kicking.
If you guys want to vote for McCain, go right ahead. If memory serves me correctly, in 2000 you chose Bush over McCain then. We all know how that turned out. If McCain wasn’t your 1st choice then, what makes him so qualified now?
Republicans aren’t really voting FOR McCain. They’re actually just voting AGAINST Obama. Nobody really wants McCain to be President. But if he wants to protect their comfortable way of life, than Republicans are all for it. After all, Democrats just want to raise taxes and give all your money to those lazy people in the projects, right?
The greedy & selfish views on this board disgust me. Bush said that we went to Iraq to enforce democracy and liberate a people. He indicated that those people deserved a better way of life. So we can spend trillions to help people in another country, but we can’t pay a few more points in taxes to help our own people right here?
Bryan, what do you actually stand for? Really, what do you stand for? You seem more interested in protecting your wallet, than you are about protecting this country. I may be a fool buy you’re a coward.
The word “coward” has a meaning, Anthony. Would you like to define how it is that I’m cowardly? — Bryan Ellis
Bryan, I dont comment on a regular basis, but… I had to say something this time. First, I spent 10 years with the Marines, and 10 years in the army. I served on a Special Forces team in afghanistan and I am still in the Army Reserves, run a ranch and operate my Real Estate Investing business and TRY to find time to spend with my family. People that dont have the ability (or the guts) to serve this country, should keep their mouths shut and not insult those who have. You know who you are. Kudos to Bryan for his support to the soldiers who put their lives on the line for your freedom. Why do I favor McCain? I may hurt some feelings here, but I have never been politically correct anyway. I have served with people of every race and religion “down range” where it really matters, and I call these men my brothers. McCain served his country in wartime, was a POW, and refused to leave his men behind when he had the opportunity. That shows character. What character has Obama shown so far? Hmmmmm. Now, the issue of raising taxes. What happens when a democrat comes in and raises taxes. Those who work hard, have to support all those who are too lazy to work. And dont tell me I am wrong about this, I have personally seen my tax dollars going to people on welfare and food stamps, who then sell the foodstamps for 50 cents on the dollar to make their cadillac payments.
Okay, I see some talk about Deficits, GDP and the two major parties. Not much substance or demonstration of knowledge about any of it by some of the writers.
To all that think the Dems have done such a good job with the economy-take a class in Macro-economics and monetary history. You will be totally surprised. When you correlate the position of the President and the congress with spending you find a very disturbing trend, no totally frightening trend. One good example was Reagan, signed the biggest tax reduction in history. The Dem congress then implemented one of the largest increases in spending to make up for that. The same thing has happened over and over through the modern history of this country.
It isn’t the President that submits the budget!!!! It is congress!!!!
IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL SPENDING CONTROL CONGRESS!!! They are the ones responsible for the deficit. The president has very limited control over this.
I don’t have enough time or space to really go into this here, it would take several pages and numerous supporting documents. I also don’t think it is going to change anyone’s mind unfortunately, facts seldom do.
So bottom line I will go McCain for one obscure reason. He does not support Pork Barrel spending nor is he a fan of entitlements. Obama hasn’t seen one he doesn’t support, take and give it all away is his plan of change. Add up his spending proposals and be prepared to be poor no matter how wealthy you might have been.
Pelosi and Reid keep lowering the definition of wealthy and it won’t be very much longer till the lower economic class will considered wealthy by their standards. Don’t believe me look at adjusted for inflation cost of living, wages and spending power since the 60’s. It will paint an interesting picture that isn’t very pleasant. The main reason we are so prosperous in this country and much of the world is because we have made so many thing extremely cheap to buy. Guess what has made much of this cheaper, energy. Take away the low priced energy and our economy will collapse over night.
So if you want to spend hours learning how all this works and what is going on behind closed doors, don’t go to a college and think you will learn this go to the library and get a lot of books and start reading. Read history, economics and political corruption books. Also read about histories dictators, facists, and marxists. The speaches will shock you out of your socks. Bottom line be prepared to be sad.
So I will support McCain and will work against Obama, Pelose, Reid and the other Socialist running for power and more power.
Chris
What about Liberty? Everyone talks about wht government can do for them. Government has only one power and that’s to take away liberty. We the people, in our wisdom, created the government to take away our liberty to kill, to steal etc. When government endeavors to do something it’s only by taking away our lilberty. We have lost our way because we have ignored the Constitution. We have come so far we actively and ignorantly advocate against the constitution. The promises candidates make are Links in our chains of capivity. “Congress Shall Make No Law abriding the freedom of speech, yet we restrict campaign speech. Congress Shall Make No Law abridging the freedom of worshilp, yet the federal government spends billions on institutions the Supreme Court says cannot allow prayer. We had a local state candidate her in Waqshington State who, upon taking office, advertised for ideas for laws he could pass. I remember thinking “why not ask for laws to repeal”. I know a woman who thinks their should be a federal law against leaving your pet in the car alone. What has become of us?
guess we will have a tough decision.. two candidates who are not ideal for running this country again..! IMO I would not vote for either of these truth hiding comealeons ( excuse spelling )color changers.. I would be voting for RON PAUL i think he tells it the way it is.!! and thats whet we need.. Cant wait till the people realize what we need is the one who tells the most truth and lets the people decide whats right for the country.. not what they want or false promises.. or changing their tune when the wind blows.. Come Back Ron Paul!! we wait for you!! 4 yrs to go..
What happened to Ross Perot..? cant he just bail us out and give him a tax break!! - id rather chosse him at this point!!!
Looks like itll have to be McCain tho this time around!!! after all he served our country like no other!! But
if we want to get Osama Bin Laden, maybe we should get OBAMA - so once he’s in he can call out in the mountains, Osama this is Obama.. you can come out now!! Im President.. NOT!!!!
Guess I’ll vote McCain!!
Hey Jim, God Bless you for serving our country first of all, second I am a republican and agree that the congress is at fault, I do not agree with alot of Bush’s antics but he is not alone in his decisions. I feel we need better choices to choose from. People are in charge of their decicions in life and for everyone to say that the poor are poor because of what the goverment has done is wrong. when people stop wanting things to be handed to them and start pushing forward in a positive direction for themselves, then they will be deserving of more things to come to them. Granted there are many things that are not free to them, but the library is free and education is free, and between these two things a person could and will change there situation with action. I get tired of having to support this mindset of poor and rich I am where I am because of taking action and education no one made me do what I do I chose to have a better life. STOP COUNTING ON THE GOVERMENT TO CHANGE IT FOR YOU. I will go for Mccain because rasing my taxes will slow my process but if Obama gets elected I will still work with whatever the circumstances deals me and will still come out ahead because action is what we all need to take to create change POSSITVE ACTION
I’m another one of those people that almost never posts, but I just have to put in my two cents.
I’m consistently astounded by seemingly smart people who continue to pass judgment and make decisions based on mis-information, hearsay, and unfounded “facts”.
I like Bills comment about political parties. Bill, Obama is not the Democrat of 70 years ago just as McCain is not the Republican of 70 years ago. Each has values that tend to favor one party or the other, but they also split on many issues. That is why no one seems to wholly agree with either.
Obama has ties to terrorism? I’m sorry, more than the USA already does? We’ve certainly funded more than our share of terrorists and “bad” dictators through cash and arms deals, drugs, oil, and US as well as international companies that do business with them - hello, Osama bin Laden anyone?
Republican “Tax Relief”? I don’t need to restate Larry’s post (who I absolutely agree with) - and Bryan, I think that people should look things up themselves instead of relying on blog comments. I’m pleased that you cite where your information comes from, but why didn’t you jump on all the other people who posted their comments and “facts” to give their citations?
That’s a fair question. The honest answer is two-fold: (1) I only work on this blog for a small percentage of my time, so I can’t always get to it immediately; and (2) This particular post has gotten so much attention that I’ve had difficulty keeping up with the comments. But I’ll try to do better
— Bryan Ellis
Do you realize we pay less taxes than in Europe and Canada?
Canada, by the way Keith, has 2 languages and may not be perfect, but certainly hasn’t failed.
I would rather pay more for taxes and see it used correctly, than less taxes and have it spent on “pork”. How quickly we forget about $1500 army toilets, bridges in Alaska, Haliburton, etc, etc. And the trillions of dollars spent, and the lives lost for other countries and wars while Americans suffer here at home…
I agree, I hate to see my hard earned money pay for “lazy” people to live. But that’s a failure of our government programs and those who run them. They need to be restuctured, but people still need aid and hope. Not everyone can pull themselves up by the bootstraps all themselves - no man is an island.
Our government needs to be revamped and streamlined - it is a bloated pig that gives itself raises, it’s friends no-bid inflated contracts, and lots of time off. We are lied to and have bad policies re framed so that we will nod our heads in agreement and follow like sheep. The Iraq War, The War on Terrorism, Clean Air Act, No Child Left Behind, Tax Relief.
We pay less for gas than in any industrialized nation.
Japan has more stringent emission standards and MPG requirements than the US.
We already have the capabilities to move forward and improve on how we use our resources. But that wouldn’t be good for the automobile companies and the gas companies that fund our government.
Talk about job growth - what if businesses were actually building wind farms, ocean current farms, etc. There is lots of opportunity in ecco friendly solutions.
Our children have steadily fallen behind in educational scores compared to Asian countries, European countries, and India? - thanks “No Child Left Behind”. But who wants to pay for education with higher taxes… I’ll just pay $35K per child, per year for private school.
We lead the world with our pollution and greenhouse gases - although China sure is giving us a run for our money.
As far as experience goes… Who cares? Bush Jr. has lots of experience failing companies. It’s not necessarily what YOU know, but surrounding yourself with people who DO know. Another thing Bush was good at NOT doing. Now he can add the USA to his roster.
I want to see results. Maybe I should say, “good results”. ROI. I haven’t seen any from McCain. I expect more of the same. You can’t keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.
I really want someone like McCain who doesn’t know who we’re at war with and admits he has no experience with the economy. Plus, just because he fought in a war doesn’t mean he has any idea about military strategy or leading for that matter.
As far as Capitol Gains Taxes go… There are always loopholes, shelters, 1031 exchanges, and oh yeah, paying your fair share. Maybe the problem is the people and businesses that manage to get out of paying what they owe makes it so that working people who don’t have tax shelters and CPA’s and doctored books need to make up for them.
The economy and real estate are in a correction. It needs to happen. Let it happen. Rip the band-aid off. The more it’s prolonged by bail outs and interest rate cuts the longer it will take. Everything looks up when you’re at the bottom.
So who is better for investors? Well McCain. I mean screw the people, the environment, the economy… we need lower taxes(for the rich). Who will pay for our deficit? Will we have a habitable planet? Will we have food and clean water? I dunno. I guess my kids will have to worry about that.
Hey Patricia, that was well said. I have long believed in the philosophy of “if you give someone a fish they eat that day (government handouts) however teach someone to fish they eat forever”. People need to be motivated enough to get out and learn to advance themselves and not expect others to just support them.
The government has many programs to send people to college for free. In the past I have always seen the democratic government want to give people fish for the day, and the republicans wanting people to get off their butts and do something. McCain is my choice.
I live in a state that votes largely Democrat. I am not espoused to either party but lean to and have largely (not wholly) voted for Republicans. My spouse is a licensed professional union member who is unemployed 9 months now.
If we are going to talk about stimulating the economy - specifically encouraging the Real Estate market, how about this train of thought? (I am referencing the largest portion of the population here):
1. We increase dependency programs for people - no matter what party is in office when the programs are made active.
2. People use the programs out of at least temporary need, and may become dependent on them making it unrealistic for them to be eneded (if there wasn’t a sunset on them to start which is uncommon)without major impact to the economy and the constituent using them. Examples: CPR farm program, welfare and unemployment, social security not to mention current so-called “bailouts”. At least 3 out of 5 of these encourage dependency and keeping them active long-term - social security [which likely won't be there when I reach "retirement" age] even before it is used.
3. The programs are supported with taxes paid by the people (I think some people actually forget this) who work, hopefully keeping enough for themselves to feel they have reaped the benefits of having worked.
4. Tax increases make both more dependent people on the system, and support the programs to be dependent on.
5. All people groups pay more taxes and all have less disposable income.
6. People with “not enough income” to live the dream and no one educating them how to break out and step off of the treadmill are in a constant struggle and may have one or both of the following happen: Have expected (tax increases), and unexpected life events happen (who doesn’t have these and thus the term “unexpected”) they can’t compensate enough financially for and they fall behind on payments for a home or for rent.
7. (These) People are renters who will be moving, or they are homeowners who will be renters or people in the market for a new (smaller) home (moving).
8. Result: Unending opportunity for Real Estate Entreprenuers.
All of these people keep Entrepreneurial and Professional Real Estate people in business.
The difference between the “independently wealthy” and the “treadmill” wage earner is not courage or determination, but exposure to opportunity, specific education (including to recognize opportunity) and choices. You can’t legislate this. To join all people to a similar financial and social group with programs, we have socialism which just plain doesn’t work in reality. I don’t see our entire population getting off the treadmill, so the Real Estate Entrepreneur and Professional will always have an income source.
Having said all this, it seems the democrats always talk about being pro-worker, and not raising taxes on the campaign trail while they tout government helped programs for people (one of which our family is using now) while they are (very much) endorsed by the labor unions. These things don’t seem compatible do they? Side-note: The extension on unemployment in our current national situation came fast and during this republican presidential term.
The republicans are NOT typically endorsed by the labor-unions and therefore NOT the labor-union worker (doing what they are told), and are attributed with supporting (big) businesses who give the wage-earner his job. The Real Estate Professionals (Agents, Mortgage Brokers etc.) are either working for a business or are a business (RE Brokers, Mortgage Brokers, Investors and others).
The knowledgeable will pay fewer taxes no matter what where that is possible.
The going thought is that Obama will be impacting the taxes that close the gap more - which is socialism which again, just doesn’t work. I am for stimulation of businesses (and entrepreneurialism) to provide less unemployment for those who want to work for a wage. I suppose encouraging more programs, and raising taxes could have the effect of making it so hard for the wage-earner that s/he is forced to consider entrepreneurialism en masse but then who will do the adminstrative and labor-intensive work?
There will always be a business in Real Estate and enough income to go around for the creative. This coming from someone who ran hard out of the gates, and has been beat up by more than 4 hardships in under 2 years including the down-turned real esate market. I lost some of my courage and determination for the independently wealthy path (in Real Estate) as an under-educated and under-mentored person with some major (*unexpected) punches, but am gaining it back because there is hope in Real Estate and Entrepreneurial efforts in general. *Mike Tyson - “You always have a plan until someone punches you.”
To not fractionalize by voting for a 3rd party, I will be voting McCain.
Anthony has made this topic into a race thing and then started name calling. Anthony you never directly called someone a racisit but your comments have. No one ever said they wouldn’t vote against Obama because he didn’t look like us as you have repeatedly stated. That is the furthest thing from the truth. Is there still racisim in today’s society? Yes and there always will be but it is not to the extent that you claim or people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton claim. That is what keeps people like that alive and millions of dollars coming into their pockets. I don’t see things like white hsitory month or the white awards like the naacp awrds or the Latino awards. If white people would have their own month or own award shows or even their own college fund like the black people do, they would be up in arms. Ethnic groups in this society has more rights then wite people do so do tell me about racism. I am all for a job going to the most qualified person whether he is white, brown, black, yellow or whatever. I am for our government staying out of the free enterprise system and stop the handouts and train people to get jobs not support them. The dems want to support everyone so they can control them. That’s why I won’t vote democratic. So stop playing the race issue everytime someone doesn’t agree with you.
While the flood of opinions and ensuing debates on this topic doesn’t surprise me, the reaction of Bryan Ellis does. I know your initial question was who will be better for RE investors, but you should have anticipated it would become much more.
How irresponsible of you to first open up a political debate that extends far beyond relevance of the site, but then you get emotionally pulled in yourself! We all have an opinion, but in your position as site moderator/advisor, don’t you think you should exude a bit more objectivity, professionalism, reserve and couth? I mean really…name-calling? I’m all for a healthy debate…until it turns childlike, personal, and petty.
I certainly don’t agree with everything Anthony posted, but many of the posts are border-line, if not blatantly, blasphemous. Yet you’ve allowed them, half-heartedly chastising some so you don’t appear biased.
Really? What gives you the opinion that I’m trying to appear unbiased? I made it very clear in the post at the top of this page where I stand, and I did it before everybody else. I’ll be voting for McCain, period. If you take offense at the fact that I require those who comment to refer to Democrats using their proper name, that’s unfortunate for you because I do think everyone should get a basic level of presumed respect. — Bryan Ellis
For the record, I’m leaning toward McCain, but my vote will not be based on any ONE aspect of a candidate’s platform, but rather a cumulative appraisal. If only there were more posts like those from Bev and Matt, this forum could actually be constructive.
Thanks for your comments, Candace. Just for the record, I’ve never claimed to be objective. I’m a “benevolent dictator” :-). But you’ve got to admit - I’ve totally steered clear of getting involved in this discussion, except for the utterly ridiculous comments of one person. Nevertheless, thanks for letting
Well said Keith, Matt as far as the no child left behind act you were incorrect. This enactment allowed my child to have the benefits he now has in the school system my child went from being lost to getting A’s with the help of this program in force. Do not place all situations in the same catagory. Any person who chooses to do well has the opportunity to do so. We as adults in the know should educate the people to think differently, my mother certainly wasn’t rich, but I was always taught that I could have anything I wanted in life go for it, and I do everyday, everyone can do better poor or not, money does not create happiness is a choice. Democrats seem to take this choice away from people and clump everyone together. I choose free will and the information is all around you poor or rich ask and you shall recieve, take action, vote republican
I believe the children are our future teach them well and they will lead the way. we certainly haven’t done well. the world is a hot mess, and it ism’t all the presidents fault. He is one person, it takes everyone to make a difference. when something goes wrong stop blamming the goverment. the people at fault are those who are in the world doing nothing about it. we need to start taking resposibility for our actions, including the president, who is most responsible, who has the most influential ways of getting things done. we the people need to stop writting on the blogs and start getting out there and doing something about it, write letters to the congress, standing together as a nation and fighting for what we want. What if the world stood there and said we don’t like our choices that have been given, and no one voted would they give us more choices?????this will not happen just a thought I feel the same thing happened when clinton got elected. no other choice. Why is it that we have them to choose from??? can anybody honestly if their heart say either one of these people are perfect for the job?
probably not from what I’ve been reading, Black white indifferent it really doesn’t matter at this point. if people are so for obama because he is a democrat then why didn’t they vote for Hillary, she has experience running the country, more then either of these canidates, I fell she ran it when clinton was there,my thoughts, she is democrat, anything great happen? healthcare reform some think this is great others not so great? anything else? is there still homeless people, is there still people out there on drugs we need to educate educate, educate…….like I said it all starts with the children who knows one of them may be able to pull us out someday
I think Obama will be better for us Investors.
I do not think that by voting for the less of the two evils will be better. I do not agree that continue mediocre is better.
I’m voting for Obama - If Obama wins and lets the country down will not vote for him again.
Bryan,
I guess I pissed you off when I called you a coward, huh? Well it’s good to see that you’re passionate about something other than your money. Oh yeah, did you see that comment from Jim about food stamps and Cadillacs? I bet you liked that one didn’t you?
Sure Anthony, your ability to call me a coward is something I’ve long feared. And now my worst fears have come to fruition: Anthony has called me a coward. What ever will I do? Please, oh please, oh please Anthony: Never call me a coward again, for I hate this feeling of dread that surrounds it.
By the way Anthony, one thing that makes you an idiot is your presumption that you know anything at all about other people. For example: You “knew” that I live in a suburb where everyone looks just like me (WRONG!), you purport to “know” my passions, you seem to “know” that Jim was wrong/misleading/etc about his “food stamps and Cadillacs” comment. By the way - you know none of those things. But as always, I continue to welcome you to post here. — Bryan Ellis
keith - I didn’t start the name calling; our host did. Not sure if I started it, but I did engage in name calling, albeit in a very focused way. No apology forthcoming. — Bryan EllisYou really can’t be serious about your comments about Black people having their own month, award shows or college funds, can you? Does that really bother you? Does it also bother you that the Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Polish-Americans, and many other ethnic groups also have all of those same things? Or is it just Black History Month that irritates you so much?
And since you brought up Affirmative Action, are you aware of who has been the #1 benefactor of affirmative action? Caucasian women. Not Blacks or Hispanics, as Rush would have you believe. Black people only make up 12% of the population in the US, but they seem to take the majority of the blame for what’s wrong in this country.
Like you keith, I would also like to see the most qualifed person get the job. The problem was this wasn’t happening. White business owners were giving the jobs to white applicants, regardless of their qualifications. So the government stepped in, and basically forced employers to hire minorities and women. Is this fair? Not really. But neither were the hiring practices of most employers.
Don’t blame minorities and Democrats for Affirmative Action. Blame the employers and universites that refused to judge a person on their qualifications alone.
Jim, I’d like to Thank You for your service to our country. I think your comments are right on target. In fact I think there are a lot of good points made by most of the bloggers on here. Anthony, I can appreciate your point of view. I can also say that I too do not like the way we have “Class Divisions” in America, and I actually share your view that we need to do a better job in the U.S.A to “take care of our own” so to speak. But to say that we need to pay more in taxes to pay for those who do not want to work for it quite frankly worries me. I realize there are people who are actually in need of assistence, and should get it. I to am a Christian, and if I had the wealth, I sure would spread it around on my own. But I am repulsed by the Robin Hood Mentality. Just because Donald Trump & Bill Gates are worth billions does not mean that I expect them to give me any of it. (Although I would appreciate it greatly)lol. And I don’t like the government taking it from me either to spend how they choose whether constructively or not. The person I would have liked to see nominated was Mike Huckabee Strictly for his stance on “The Fair Tax”. I think that tax reform should be a high priority in the campaign. The Fair Tax might be a good solution. Like anything else I’m sure it would have bugs to be worked out. This may shock you but as I figure it I would be psying more under The Fair Tax than I do now. Why then you ask would I be willing to do that? Well under that system EVERYONE is treated FAIRLY. There would be no more “Underground Economy” and The “Rich” would pay pay effectively more tax because they could buy more. And with the Prebate checks coming to those in poverty they should be able to afford the new way of taxation. If you want to do the research go to fairtax.org. Bryan you don’t have to post this if you don’t want to. I know it’s kinda off subject. Just wanted to explain myself better.
P.S. Under the fair tax their would be no loopholes as Matt has pointed out. The entire tax system as we know would be gone and replaced with an effctive rate 23% of everything NEW that we buy.
Candace and others,
I ask you to please not take any offense at what I am going to say as I think your comments are well meant and measured. I just want to comment on them and in general about this topic.
First and foremost there is no such thing as a political post ever staying on topic. It doesn’t stay on topic for the moderator, the participants nor the subject. It doesn’t stay on topic no matter who it is about nor where it is held.
I worked for the DNC many years ago and I can say even when you are in the heart of it nothing stays on topic for long. I left after a number of years completely disgusted with what I saw. The RNC is no better for those who think I might be prejudiced to one side or the other. They both suck!!
Now my point of this is no one is immune. All political discussions turn into a morass of drama, that is the nature of politics. While it is annoying and sometimes scary, it has always been this way and always will be. Too much emotion and never enough thought or education to moderate what happens, I saw it from the inside and opted out.
If a person wants to not have a heated discussion the only way to have it is by allowing no comments. Just have a poll with mutiple choice or yes-no answers. Not what Bryan is really looking for here.
So unfortunately there is never a constructive discussion when it comes to politics and most likely never will be one. I never saw one with the DNC, never heard of one with the RNC and of the events I have attended involving some of the less attended political parties, there certainly is no hope for an intelligent discussion there either.
Forums are fundamentally flawed by their very nature and will stay that way as long as people are free to say what they want. There will always be little constructive action taken in one but we should all rejoice that we still have this very important freedom to express ourselves.
Back to the original question; McCain will be better for investors, because he has a more hands off approach, Obama will always answer first to his handlers, they are very hands in the cookie jar.
Yes they all have handlers and always will have, first hand experience. So don’t think I speak from anything on this but experience. I gave up my axe to grind a long time ago. Now I mostly comment from loyalty to my country and not so much any more.
Wow! LOT of comments on this one. Imagine that!
I will vote for Obama. He has the intelligence, insight and foresight, diplomatic tendency and therefore capacity we so desperately need after eight years of what I call the Marlboro man diplomacy and antics of our commander-in-chief. The last thing we need is McBush, who has no shame in stating his continued support of a war in which we have no fight. And, considering the state of our economy, the last thing we need is a long term commitment to spend what was 7.4 million dollars per hour in 2004 (http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-08-26-iraq-war-clock_x.htm).
Anyone but Bush should have worked in 2004. I am foolishly optimistic it will, this time.
Chris, well said. That is one of the best comments on this blog today.
N.L Villanueva, there is NO SHAME in supporting the war. Although I myself do not like war, heck I don’t even like to fight, I just know that you can not turn your tail and run away from this war. You can not give a specific timetable for a pullout. If Obama does get elected He will have no clue what’s going on. And if he decides to pull the troops he better do it at the recomendation of the troops. We need to win this war and stand up for our FREEDOMS. It seems all we ever do is fight for our freedom. This is something that we should not have to constantly do. McCain will hopefully get the job done. I have nothing against Obama personally, I’m just not sure this is the change we need.
Anthony, that’s the first I’ve heard that Caucasion women are #1 benefactor of Affirmative Action. I have no reason to doubt it though. I totally understand the reason behind Affirmative Action, but you have to admit there may be a little reverse discrimination going on. You know as well as I do why we see more tension between Blacks and Whites than with any of the other ethnicites you mentioned. It all stems back to slavery. Just because my ancestors may have had slaves does not mean I approve of such a ridiculous notion and for some reason that tension is kept alive although that took place generations ago. Why does this generation get the blame for something we had no part of. I can only partially blame that on the media. And maybe the Rev. Jackson & Al Sharpton. Now I only brought that up because of the Affirmative Action comments. And as far as Bryan’s reactions, He is totally in his right to do so on his own blog. And besides it seems to be working. All of us on here just keep reading.
Historical note, back in 1991 after the civil war in Somalia, over 300,000 people died of starvation due to mainly to a warlord named Aidid who used food as a weapon to control the people. 1st Bush sent in troops with the UN as peacekeepers to help distribute food to the starving masses and stop the fighting. Aidid was continually attacking UN troops because they were threatening his power, and massacred 24 pakistani troops. Aidid was now the target of a UN manhunt for “those responsible”. Former president Carter, attemps unsuccessfully to negotiate with aidid, and later during an attempt to apprehend him, US troops are engaged in mogadishu in a 17 hour battle. 18 US soldiers are killed and 84 injured. Over 300 Somalis are killed. President Clinton decides to cut his losses and pull out completely and abandon the search for Aidid. Here is a critical point that some will argue. When we got hurt, even though we won this battle, we pulled out. This one event, by Clinton, showed the world that we had no stomach when we got a bloody nose and directly insulted those who had won that very tough battle by pulling out. Afterwards, Aidid realizing our weakness, was implicated in many terrorist attacks, some against US embassies, at one time killing 253 civilians and wounding over 4000. Although Aidid died later, the area still had a major involvement in terrorist activities up until recently. My point is, Clinton had no guts and only took action against terrorism to get the spotlight off the Lewinsky affair, after whitewater had settled down. We need somebody in the office of President, that can make the tough choices. The soldiers dont want to be over there fighting, we would prefer to be home with our families, but we also know that to show that we have no stomach for a fight, only brings the fight closer to us and puts our families more at risk.
Back to the original question:
“Who will be better for real estate investors? John McCain or Barack Obama?”
The answer from this group is clear, with many including their reasons for their conclusion, so we understand their position….
..except not much in the way of reasons from most of the Obama supporters, to whom I ask, what are your reasons for deciding to vote for Obama?
I would guess that you have researched his character, intentions, and proposed policies and concluded he will be good for real estate investors. This seems to be an excellent place to clear this up and, who knows, maybe sway some more votes your way. As we have read, most of the voters are not thrilled with the choices, but have real concerns. It seems as though they will vote for the candidate most likely to not hurt business over the next four years. They could be swayed in Obama’s direction, perhaps, with compelling factual information that conclusively makes a case for Obama.
Maybe if you can quote the factual sources of the knowledge acquired and used as a solid basis for a decision to vote Obama and improve the lot of REI’s, everyone else might better understand that position. I think everyone would find the response to this question very enlightening, inquiring minds want to know:
Which policy of Obama’s is going to better things for investors? How? Why?
…………..
For the most part, this discussion has been very interesting, and thanks to Bryan for creating the opportunity for everyone to participate in this discussion. It definitely reminds one that we are fortunate beyond expression to live in the USA where we can freely express any opinion we like, no matter how, uh, ‘unreasoned’ it may be.
As Mark Twain said, “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”
Well, it’s unfortunate that neither party will nominate the best candidate for President. There were better choices on both sides. Therefore I’ll have to vote for the most conservative candidate (McCain) as the history of the Democratic party is Socialism and the history of the Republicans is mostly Capitalism.
The individual who becomes President is not as important as the philosophy of the party. If some of you have Socialistic tendencies, Cuba is looking for some extra people.
I vote for McCain.Obama isn’t the second coming of Jesus Christ, like the liberals think. He’s the second coming of Jimmy Carter! However, we the people need to take back our country.
Well put, Anthony.
I will never forget in a previous life as a phone technician when I entered a very nice family’s home to service their trouble ticket. They were soooo white family that so was their dog…pure (not New York City) snow white. And not that it matters, except that they were small business owners and hanging on their basement wall was a SBA 8(a) certificate. For those of you who don’t know, this is a government set aside program for “disadvantaged” businesses. Many of you would ignorantly call this “Affirmative Action”. Now, the husband was white so he wouldn’t qualify. Their dog was white and he can’t vote 8-)~. So who did that leave as the qualifying factor? DING DING DING DING. The white wife. And there I was, a “blue collar” Latino, veteran and small business owner servicing them. So, it seems that many on this forum, much like the masses, need a little primer on Affirmative Action. You may benefit from the following: http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/affirmaction.html , http://www.understandingprejudice.org/readroom/articles/affirm.htm , and http://aapf.org/focus/episodes/oct30.php. There are more.
But I thought we were discussing the merits of McCain vs Obama? How silly am I? Reality check…regardless of what anyone says, this presidential race is a culmination of 400 years of racial oppression gone sour. Willie Lynch defeated. And I have always believed that this business of liberalism versus conservatism often happens along the lines of race, because so many associate Democrats with social programs like welfare, for which the notion of generations of blacks and latinos milking society is so prevalent. For example, I have never understood the “hillbilly” backwoods, grease monkey white dude diehard Republican mentality. They don’t care about you, man!
Greg, there is NO SHAME in supporting a just war. And, as a veteran of the U.S. Navy, I am one of the few (excluding Bush and Cheney) who has put their life on the line for the freedoms so many take for granted, including that used to invade a country in which history has now shown was of no immediate threat to us. Face it, people, there were no weapons of mass destruction and Al-Qaeda was not based in Iraq. They are, however, stronger there now. Good job, you zealoous patriots, you. But McVeigh and his ilk are a much greater threat to this country than Saddam and his regime were! Sure…Saddam’s evil regime…”he tortured his peeeeople”…so do most of the police forces in this country…Rodney King, Amadou Dialo…oh well, huh. Oh, and Cuba is a COMMUNIST country. Looks like a primer on civics is needed as well. Here ya go… http://www.romm.org/soc_com.html
Good point on Affirmative Action, Anthony. I will never forget when, as a phone technician I arrived for a service call to a white, middle class family’s home in Suburbia, USA. They were soooo white (how white were they!?). They were so white that their dog was pure (not NYC) white! Ka-pish… ANYway. On their wall was an 8(a) certification plaque. For those of you who don’t know, this is a governmental set-aside program for “disadvantaged” businesses. Many of you who have posted along these lines would call this…DA DA DAH…AFFIRMATIVE ACTION! But wait, the husband was a white male so, he wouldn’t qualify and their dog can’t vote. So who does this leave? DING DING DING DING! The white wife. Consider these if you need this to be a little more definitively expressed:
http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/affirmaction.html
http://www.understandingprejudice.org/readroom/articles/affirm.htm
http://aapf.org/focus/episodes/oct30.php
There are more. Just Google “affirmative action and white women”. You should get your fill.
I agree, Greg, there is NO SHAME in supporting “the war”. I would, however, add just war. And I, unlike the great majority of Americans (Bush and Cheney included), am uniquely qualified to oppose any war as a veteran of the military who put his life on the line to support the freedoms so many take for granted, like invading a country that was of no imminent threat to us. Let’s face it folks, there were no weapons of mass destruction and the “Al-Qaeda” attack on the U.S. came out of Afghanistan. Sure, Saddam’s was an evil regime…”he killed his peeeople”, they say. But so do they in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit. Oh yeah, they’re black criminals, they don’t count. Except for Amadou Dialo, who made the mistake of being an African immigrant, out at night, and reaching for ID in his wallet when four undercover cops shot him so many times (40+) many were in his foot, which meant he laid dead already when those penetrated his lifeless body. And they were fully acquitted, as were those who shot and killed a young black man leaving a strip joint with no criminal record or weapon, on his wedding night. What is done about them?
Don’t fool yourselves. This is about oil, a power grab, military industrialism…NOT our freedoms.
Oh! Bill, Cuba is a Communist, not Socialist country. Give this a gander… http://www.romm.org/soc_com.html.

“Second Coming of Jimmy Carter.” Funny.
A friend somewhat high up in Washington politics sent me this provocative commentary today. Hmmm….
You can expect a wave of Hillary-inspired NOBAMA information–pseudo-facts, poop-aganda, etc.–and even some incredibly ugly truths. Most of it will be confidentially handled, but some or even all may make it to the general public. There’s a lot wrong with Obama and I certainly don’t want him as our Chief Executive, but there’s also a lot wrong with the way he’s about to be shredded.
The Hillaryous group is now leaking the crap accumulated during the primaries, but withheld because it’s bad politics to give ammunition to the other side. In this case, her team feels they can safely whisper to the super-delegates who, in the end, will control the result. The state delegate count is close enough to even so it’s up to the Supers to decide the candidate. Given enough bad news regarding Obama, and good timing by Bill (who’s obviously running the strategy), things will happen too quickly for Obama’s team to invoke the Teflon Effect and the convention will have no choice but to nominate Hillary. The Clintons are picking her wardrobe and his tie, and writing their acceptance speech. I’m sure that a confident Bill and Hillary have been evaluating VP candidates for weeks…and he’s the most obvious choice! Interesting times…
Let’s say Bill’s mega-smear campaign somehow fails, and Obama wins the nomination. All the Nobama information that was previously available only to Hillary’s team will make its way to the Republican strategists. That ensures McCain’s four year presidency, the end of Obama on the national scene, and an open door to the Clintonsteins in 2012.
Observant Americans are flipping coins: who will be easier to beat in November? For whom shall we pull? The answer depends on how much damage Clinton and Obama do to each other in the critical days leading to Denver, and what sort of nasty new revelations we see. I dislike Hillary, but distrust Obama much more. So, reluctantly, I must root for Hillary. Amazing!
I’m more and more comfortable with McCain’s prospects. He’s got flaws but, in these tumultuous times, we need a leader with some concept of international issues and their military solutions, whoever implements them. Though I disagree with some of McCain’s positions, he’s as honest as a politician can be. Americans who stop cheering long enough for a second look are discovering that Obama doesn’t understand “truth.” He’s not quite the Golden Boy that at first he seemed to be, he’s a sort of apprentice Christian emerging from an Islamic foundation, and the CHANGE he’s promising will be what’s left of a family’s finances when he implements his economic plan.
Hillary expects McCain’s numbers to improve and Obama’s to sink, and is prepared to rise to the occasion in Denver.
November: McCain v. The Clintons
The following message is not for everyone, only those who claim to be Bible-believing Christians.
Anthony, I’m not going to address the many issues discussed here but one. One that you bring up as a Christian man. A Christian person ought to be one that stands behind the Bible 100%. The problem today is that many only stand behind the parts/issues that they like or that fit their lifestyle and choose to disregard the rest as though they really don’t matter. Or they’ll say things like: I choose to not impose my beliefs on others, (so they’ll compromise their faith) just so long as others of different faiths (or non-believers) don’t bother me or my family. That exact type of thinking has helped to bring about the immoral climate that we live in today.
Yes, you’re right, I agree that no one has the right to impose their faith/beliefs on someone else. But that doesn’t mean that a Christian is supposed to remain silent about their faith/beliefs. Just like today’s society is trying to force homosexuality and Pro-choice down mine and my family’s throat, I have the same right to say that I disagree strongly with those views.
You mention that Republicans always bring up two issues: Abortion & Homosexuality. Well, probably because these happen to be pretty big issues in God’s book. Something not to make light of. And as a Christian I have an obligation to God-Almighty, who I will have to one day give an answer to for all that I’ve said & done. My obligation is to vote for a President that best suits my Biblical values as a Christian. Voting for someone who openly supports what the Bible calls a sin would be to partake of the sin as well. Read Ezekiel chapters 3,18,& 33 keeping in mind that God hasn’t changed nor has His Holy Word.
Mr. Obama has openly stated that he supports the “Homosexual” lifestyle and supports their union in marriage and as a family. I know many do not agree, but God not only calls the homosexual lifestyle a sin, He calls it an “Abomination”.
And in case you don’t know, Pro-choice supports “abortions”. Which in God’s view is killing an innocent baby. This is called murder. Which also happens to be a sin in God’s book. By the way, for those ignorant Christians who don’t think a fetus is a person, you need to read Psalm 139.
So, Mr. Anthony, you go ahead and vote your conscience as a Christian. But take heed, you’ve been exhorted as a Christian to stand behind God’s word, which is more important than any issue man has on earth (including taxes). And if you choose to vote for Mr. Obama, then as you said, “May God have mercy on your soul”.
Any true Christian cannot vote for Mr. Obama and what he stands for and supports (Biblically). God can always bless us financially if He chooses. But if we choose sin over His word, there will be severe consequences to pay. Much worse than raised taxes.
Yes, I know Mr. McCain is not perfect, but so far he fits closest to my Biblical views.
People are always saying, “God bless our nation”… well He has. And look how we’ve shown Him our gratitude… many are trying to get Him out of our nation. I pray, “May God have mercy on our nation”.
Gary
i am a conservative. i stand for: stronger families, lower taxes, better government, not just more spending. i am an american, not an african american or white american etc. the whole notion is ridiculous. anthony is right in one statement. racism is alive in america. however what he fails to mention is that all of us have predjudices, no matter what our backgrounds. to vote for obama because he is black is just as wrong as voting against him because he is black. how about we vote for candidates who want us to take responsibility for our own actions and want the government to get out of the way of our success, whether it be in school or real estate investing. how about giving the students the choice of what school they want to attend and not which one happens to be closest.
any candidate that says the government can do a better job is wrong ans should go. these are the same people who could not even make the post office work when they had a monopoly and they want to run health care and education(did real good job with that for the last 40 yrs haven’t they.) as for my not being a good chriswtian because i don’t want higher taxes: well i give a solid 10% of my gross income to charities that i choos based on how well they manage the money i give them and how much they acually use it to help people and not help government. i believe if you do the research on this one also you will find that conservatives give a much larger %age of their earnings to charity than liberals who want government to slove the problem. let’s do it oursleves and leave the government out of it. sorry i got long winded her but this is really out of hand. we want the gov’t to handle it so we don’t have to make the effort to think things through for ourselves. grow up america or your children will be blaming you for their loss of freedoms and incomes. i have never responded to anything like this before but this discussion was just too much. i am not not voting for obama because he is black; i am not voting for abama because he is prochoice and anti-family which history has shown liberals to be and which history has also shown is not good for america.
Gary wrote: A Christian person ought to be one that stands behind the Bible 100%. The problem today is that many only stand behind the parts/issues that they like or that fit their lifestyle and choose to disregard the rest as though they really don’t matter.
The only problem with your statement is that, if accepted at face value, you’re going to have to also accept 13 biblical passages that prescribe stoning as a punishment for various crimes. Here’s a summary.
1. For touching Mount Sinai Exodus 19:13
2. For taking “accursed things” Joshua 7:1-26
3. For cursing or blaspheming Leviticus 24:16
4. For adultery (including urban rape victims who fail to scream loud enough) Deuteronomy 22:23-24
5. For animals (like an ox that gores a human) Exodus 21:28
6. For a woman who is not a virgin on her wedding night Deuteronomy 22:13-21
7. For worshipping other gods Deuteronomy 17:2-5
8. For preaching the wrong religion Deuteronomy 13:5-10
9. For disobeying parents Deuteronomy 21:18-21
10. For witches and wizards Leviticus 20:27
11. For giving your children to Molech Leviticus 20:2
12. For breaking the Sabbath Numbers 15:32-56
13. For cursing the king 1 Kings 21:10
And that’s all I’m going to say about that!
Oh, NL Villanueva…..
As I’m sure you knew, but maybe just forgot…
Socialism is the overall category that communism falls into. As a matter of fact the dictionary states:
Communism is a hypothetical stage of SOCIALISM as formulated by Marx, Engles, Lenin and others….
Hopefully all the people of faith on this forum had a chance to see the Civil Forum last night when Obama tried to wiggle out the abortion queation (which he favors according to his Senate voting record) and McCain is totally Pro Life.
Not being from Chicago, most would not know that Baback Orama is a product of the Daley political machine. When he ran for state senator, Daley’s people found “errors” in the applications of the opposition candidates so they were disqualified and he ran unopposed. While in the Illinois senate, he was a chameleon, and completely undistinguished. He ran for U.S. Senate against Jack Ryan. When Ryan’s campaign imploded due to a scandal involving him wanting his wife Jeri Ryan to go to a sex club (which came out in divorce papers released during the campaign. Hmmm… how Clinton-esque). The Illinois Republican party imploded and made Alan Keyes their nominee. While entertaining, Keyes did not mount a viable campaign and lost handily.
Now we have the undistinguished U.S. Senator from Illinois, with all of 1.5 years experience running for president. Yay. I understand the desire of people of color to want to see something other than a white guy running for the highest elective office on the planet. Really, I do. I would never vote for or against a person on the basis of race–only on policy and philosophy. But there is more to the job than being black, white, brown, yellow, or red. You have to be an executive. Unfortunately, neither of the two candidates has run as much as a hot dog stand or a laundromat. That disturbs me greatly.
Obama has promised to have a timeline to pulling out of Iraq. What an insanely STUPID idea! You don’t want your enemy to know your plans. You want him to wonder what the hell happened, if he’s even alive to think at all.
Obama wants to raise the capital gains tax to 30%. The 15% rate is due to expire in 2010. If it is raised to 30%, investors of all kinds are going to unload their investments in 2009. What kind of crash do you think that will cause?
Obama said he would bomb an ally (Pakistan), but negotiate with our sworn enemies (Iran). RUFKM?!?!?! Another bit of moronocrity (just coined that one).
He wants to raise taxes on productive people and create more social programs, increasing government interference in our lives. Name one thing that the government does well, besides kill people and build roads? The constitutional role of the government is to protect the citizens. That’s it.
And he suggests properly inflating tires and having tune ups as a way to solve the energy problem?!?! It’s interesting that when Bush rescinded the executive order banning drilling off the coast of the U.S., oil prices began to fall.
I was also disturbed at Obama’s speech in Germany condemning the practices of the U.S. That’s a judgment issue for me. The executive branch of the US is responsible for diplomacy and foreign policy, not the legislative branch. I don’t see sucking up to European socialists as a viable foreign policy.
I need more than vague, vacuous, insipid appeals to Hope and to Change, or to Hope for Change, or Change Hoping, or something. I cannot vote for someone who clearly is using race as an issue, tells people what they can and cannot say about him, and espouses policies that do not and cannot work. I don’t like the appeals to the target oil companies for windfall profits when other industries have much higher profit margins. For example, oil companies had an 8% profit margin last year, Microsoft had 30%. No one’s crying about Microsoft’s obscene profits. And they are also ignoring the taxes that oil companies pay. Tack on a windfall profits tax, and you’re going to increase the cost of gas and decrease supply.
I don’t like McCain’s election reform legislation, his approach to illegal immigration, his blathering on about global warming. He has consistently been for a strong national defense, and has consistently voted to cut spending and to eliminate pork projects. So, I’m going to have to hold my nose and vote for McCain. I just hope he gets a strong, rock-ribbed conservative with executive experience as a running mate.
Gary - as most Christians are, I believe you may be misguided. As a Christian, it is not your right, or your role, to impose Christian beliefs on someone else. Jesus never asked Christians to go out into the world and eliminate sin. Sinners sin. That what they do. Jesus expects Christians to spread his word, and to let him do the rest. The idea is that if someone comes to know Jesus, than they won’t want to sin anymore. If you want to stop abortion, we need to stop women from wanting to have them. Not take away their right to have them.
I’m not voting for Obama as my Spiritual or moral leader. I’m voting for him to be the leader of the nation that I live in. Just because John McCain is against abortion and gay rights, does not mean he is morally superior to Barack Obama.
Also, a few comments have been brought about capitalism and socialism. Trust me, Democrats believe in capitalism as well. They just understand that true capitalism mostly benefits the educated & the wealthy. Democrats also understand that in order to have true capitalism, you have to level the playing field first.
Yes, supposedly every citizen in this country has the same rights and opportunities. But if you come from an environment where you never see any of those opportunities, and you have no one to show them to you, it’s likely that you won’t be able to take advantage of them. Have any of you ever been to a high school in the Bronx, or the westside of Chicago, or inner-city Detroit? Well I have, and it’s amazing that any kid can learn anything in those places. They are more like prisons than schools. Now you take a kid from a suburban high school, and the picture is totally different. His whole environment is geared for him to be successful. All he has to do is follow the plan. He doesn’t have to be exceptional, he doesn’t have to stand out. Just do what he’s supposed to do, and his life will be pretty good.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. If you’re poor, your kids will go to poor schools. As a result, they’ll get a poor education and only be qualified for poor paying jobs. This is a big part of the reason that you see the repeating cycles and generations of people on welfare. They’re not out to get over on the government. They just have no real idea as to how to break the cycle. As someone else on this blog said, education is the key. Just don’t expect it to happen in most of the inner-ciy public high schools in our country.
Lastly, I think it was Greg that wants to know why people blame his generation for slavery. Greg, I don’t think Black people blame your generation. I think they blame every generation of White people since the early 1600s. White people seem to want to sweep slavery under the rug and say (as Greg did), “Yes slavery was horrible, but I never owned anyone. So stop talking about it already.” No one would ever dare say that to a Jewish person. “Sure the Holocaust was horrible, but I never gassed anyone. So stop talking about it already.” Why would you expect Black people to stop talking about something as tragic as the enslavement of thier people for almost 300 years? And slavery did happen, so who is to blame? You can’t just accept all of the great accomplishments of this country, and simply deny it’s mistakes. Especially one as horrendous as slavery.
OK, Bill. I have been to merriam-webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism), britannica http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/551569/socialism#tab=active~checked%2Citems~checked&title=socialism%20–%20Britannica%20Online%20Encyclopedia), cambridge (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=75392&dict=CALD), and webster’s online (http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/socialism) dictionaries and have not found the term “hypothetical stage” anywhere. There were references to communism, but so were there to capitalism, and only occasional references to socialism as a transitional stage between the two, but they remain distinct forms of government. Please provide your reference point, as I have done because, opinions are like…umm, feet after all. We all have them and they all stink.
Oh great, now the Christians are misguided. Anthony, if you are in favor of abortion (killing of unborn babies) for any reason except the health of the mother, how can you be a moral person or leader?
There are 4 choices for a woman, Abstenance, contraception, adoption and abortion. Why do some Liberals think abortion is the only choice??
As far as equal opportunities for schools, jobs, the poor and so on and so on, I’ll bet you keep voting for the socialists who favor the class and race warfare that keeps them in power. If you think about it, you’ll find that everyone would benefit in this country if the government got out of our lives and let the private sector guide the country with the ideas of Choice, Competition, and Merit.
It might take a couple generations to undo the harm the government run programs have caused, but the future would be brighter..
Politics-many blood sucking creatures…
REMEMBER THIS: All problems in this country have been caused by Politicians (or activists),and they are the very politicians who now tell you they have the solution to the problem. One party has a goal of the government controlling all free enterprise, the money supply and our daily lives. The politicians want to force all of us into equality. No choice, no competition, no merit. You’re not going to like that life Anthony.
On another point..
Until my retirement in 1994, I worked for a company who hired many African Africans, who were in awe that African Americans were still hung up on the slavery issue. They felt the decendents of slaves were the lucky ones, as they were already here in “The Land of Opportunity” and not left back in Africa where things are not very safe for them, or there is no opportunity at all.
Just watched Rick Warren’s questioning of the candidates. Good grief, is there any contest here, folks? We’ve got McCain’s 20+ years in the Senate, and Obama’s barely dry behind the ears. Sheesh.
Anthony,
that is the craziest stuff I have ever heard, If people place their mindset on constantly talking about bad things in their life and cannot look to find good things then they will remain enslaved in their lives. Don’t you see that all this negativity brings is more of the same keep bringing up all things bad that happen to blacks or jews is making people have anger. It should be remembered so that it doesn’t repeat itself and people should learn from it but it is what it is, Any person can create what they want in life poor or not, if taught correctly the way to achieve things is not complaining but by taking action and doing something about it how do you think obama got where he is by complaining about slavery no by taking action leave it alone and start being a mentor to people give them a possitive view
If you missed the Saddleback event, here are the transcripts.

Also, video clips of both McCain and Obama are already showing up on YouTube. Here’s one.

Patricia,
I agree with you. People need to look forward. It is people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton that won’t let people forget because then they would be out of a job and not raking in their millions by crying foul when they see opportunity. They have raked their own people over the coals for years and continue to do so. Anthony is one of the many misled. They cut the legs out of people like Don Imus, which I didn’t agree with his comments, but then they make comments on their own and nothing is said about it or it just gets swept under the rug like the latest Jesse Jackson apology. Don Imus apologized too but that wasn’t good enough. they wanted blood.
We also need our government to step aside and quit trying to control every aspect of our lives. That is what the Dems want. More programs to control us. I am against any kind of discrimination but today there is more discrimination than ever before only it is going the other way. I am really tired of people saying we got to be politically correct or racial profiling. Our country is on the verge of collapse and if we don’t take it back now we are all done. You want to keep it alive then we better vote for McCain. You want to speed up the downfall, then vote for Obama.
The book of Revelation says that the anti-christ will be of middle eastern decent and be muslim. He will fool people and become christlike in his behavior and promise to bring peace to the world before he reveals himself. Guess where Obama ancestry is from.
N L ,
I’m using my family dictionary “Webster’s New World Dictionary of the American Language” , 2nd College Edition, Simon and Schuster.
The word “hypothetical” is used there but I have also seen “transitional” which is more to my original post of 8/14/2008 stating Capitalism to Socialism to Communism.
But why quibble. My origiinal posts were to warn people that Obama is a Liberal and a Socialist. If you look up the term “New Liberalism” on the internet, you will see many references to Socialism and Communism. We have been transitioning from Capitalism to Socialism in this country since 1913. The Liberal wing of the Democratic party is leading us in this direction, and Obama is right there with them.
A couple of follow up points. Obama DOES have ties to terrorism, although it’s domestic terrorism rather than Islamofascist terrorism. One of his friends and colleagues is william Ayers, of the Weather Underground, who has said that he wishes that he had done more terrorist acts.
A second issue has to do with why they would cut taxes when there is a deficit. The reason is that tax cuts produce more revenue for the government. If you look at the budget deficit, you’ll also notice that since the Bush tax cuts took place, the government has been taking in more money than any time in history. The problem is that Congress has been spending money even faster than it has been bringing it in. The idea has to be to cut spending as well. Historically, having a flat 21% tax rate produces the highest revenue for the government. Unfortunately, the people running things want to use taxes to push a social agenda and promote class warfare and dependence in the population they’re giving things to, thereby securing the base. Liberal social policies do not work because they CANNOT work–they are counter to well known principles of human behavior.
People have been compliaining about the cost and length of the Iraq War. Consider this. The War on Poverty has been going on for over 40 years at a cost of over $11 trillion. How’s that worked out?
Bill,
I never said I was for abortion; actually I said I was against it. What I am for is the right for a woman to make choices about her own body. You say that a woman has four options, with abortion being one of them. But then you turn around and say that the government should take away that option. That makes no sense to me.
Also on your point about Africans, besides ancestry, I don’t believe they have much in common with African-Americans. Their experiences are totally different, so of course their views and opinions will be different as well.
Patricia, I agree with you that complaining about slavery is not going to get Black people anywhere. I think most Black people understand that as well. But the fact is that the negative effects of slavery still exist in this country. There is a direct coorelation between slavery and the poor state of the Black family. Ignoring slavery, and not talking about, isn’t the answer. I’m not a fan of Jesse or Al, but at least they manage to keep their people from being ignored. If Blacks had adapted the docile ways of the American Indian, Black people would be amost exstinct in this country now. No, Black people fought for their rights: human rights as well as civil rights.
I’m all for capitalism once the playing field is leveled. If we take the government out of the picture, are we to believe that overnight businesses are going to have a change of heart and start hiring minorities? If that’s the case, why do Black men make only 70% of White men doing the same jobs? Women make even a little less than that. Are we to believe that the local governments are going to start funding inner-city schools at the same rate that they fund schools in predominately White areas? When left to it’s own devices, this country will do what it always has: make the rich richer, and the poor poorer. And then blame the poor for not doing more, when they never had a chance to begin with.
Maybe one of you Republicans can answer this for me: Why do you want to keep government out of your lives when it comes to your finances, but you support government stepping in and taking away a woman’s rights? The latter seems way more intrusive to me.
And to the person that brought up Don Imus, why would you try and defend that idiot? He called a bunch of Black female student-athletes, who had just achieved the highest level in their sport, a “bunch of nappy headed hoes”. What was funny about that? What if one of the American Olympics announcers called the Chinese gymnastics team “a bunch of slanty-eyed sluts” (excuse my language, but Don Imus started it). Would that be funny to you? I guarantee you the Chinese wouldn’t find that one bit funny. That person would be immediatly fired, and Bush would be on TV issuing apology after apology. Imus got what he deserved. You can’t offend a whole race of people, and expect to apologize your way out of it.
Oh yeah Patricia, I almost forgot. The book of Revelations doesn’t say that the Antichrist will be Muslim and of Middle-eastern decent. Actually the work Muslim doesn’t exist anywhere in the Bible. That kind of makes sense because Islam didn’t even exist back than.
Also, Obama’s father was from Kenya, and his mother is from Kansas. Not sure what ancestry he has that links him to the Middle East. Please explain.
Well like most political blogs this one has degenerated into mostly idiotic comments about Christianity, slavery, ideology and who knows what.
As for Christianity comments, they have schools of theology where the meaning of the Bible is argued and discussed all day long. There is little to no consensus about what part of the Bible applies to what, so every time I see someone quoting scripture I ignore it. It is just their own personal belief they are quoting and not mine. I have my own personal beliefs which I like just fine, thank you very much.
So if we are going to do this then here is a little information about slavery.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_slave_trade
Read this and find out as American’s we have had very little to do with slavery in the world. Yes slavery is bad, look up indentured servitude some time. So let us try putting most of the blame, because that is what many keep talking about, where it belongs mostly on the peoples of Africa, where it is still practiced, the arab cultures, and the early europeans, whom liked sugar.
So get over the slavery issue and cry about something else for a change. IT IS HISTORY!! But not in Africa.
As for Socialism and Communism and Liberalism. Get a dictionary!!
http://www.yourdictionary.com/socialism http://www.yourdictionary.com/liberalism
You will find most liberals have no idea what it is, that socialist are just working towards being communist and most people have little to no idea the true meaning of words. Thank you teachers unions of America!!
So as I posted earlier, all political discussions turn into meaningless arguements that have no idea how to stay on track.
One very good comment made eariier, is while many of McCain’s supporters can give well thought out reasons for supporting him, even if not happily, very few Obama supporters give a reason. Platitudes about change are not reasons.
So come on Obama supporters let us have some hard core reasons. Tell me what great thing he has done for our country. Show us where he has fought the good fight. Enlighten the world with his unifying accomplishments.
I know grocery store clerks with more verifiable qualifications, so tell me what his are. I want to know. A person stating “I want change, I voted against the war”, are not reasons to be president. If they are then every Viet Nam era protester is just as ready to be president and many are more qualified. Hell, Patty Hearst would be a good running mate in light of this.
Now before many of you go ballistic read all the links and find out what I am talking about.
This is blog about who would be best for investors not any of the other crap that is being thrown around. So let us see hard examples of what makes one person more investor friendly than the other one. I for one am an inquiring mind and would like to know.
Chris
Wow… this discussion has really morphed into something else all-together. But, as someone else pointed out–when you open up a discussion that has to do with politics (and, usually, religion)–this is going to happen. So I am not surprised, I’m just saying…
Now–I believe the original question was, “Who will be better for investors–McCain or Obama?”
Let me first say that I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. When I look at the two candidates, my gut tells me that McCain would probably be better for investors, at least initially. But that will not dictate for whom I am going to vote. I have to base my decision on everything, not simply one aspect or issue. Do I think that Obama will raise taxes? Yes. Does this make me happy? No.
Also–I understand the concerns of those who feel that Obama lacks “experience”. I do not disagree, but I’m not sure that is necessarily a bad thing.
While McCain may be better for investors, I think that Obama will be a better choice overall. Both candidates have faults, and while I do think that Obama is a risk, I am more willing to take that risk with the potential for change that is so desperately needed in this ocuntry vs. the “experience” that will more than likely (in my opinion) be very close to what we have had for the past 8 years or so
** I think that Obama will be a better choice overall. **
Yeah, if you want a Boy Scout to lead you. If you want a Marine (so to speak, he was a Navy man), send in John McCain.
Caitlin–
Seriously–a boy scout vs. a marine (navy man)? Is that your argument? Wow… I don’t know what I was thinking…
We’ve all seen how the “tough guy” approach has worked up to this point. Perhaps it’s time for a different approach…
Like I stated previously, I think that there is inherent risk with Obama. However, it is a risk that I, for one, am willing to take (given the alternative).
This forum has been excellent it has shown me just how naive, uninformed, uneducated, unintelligent, media brainwashed and I’ll call it, out right stupid how some people act and think.
I love the question who would be a better president for the real estate investor. First I would say what moron would want to spend all the time, energy and hard physical work to find, fix-up and sell or rent property and NOT KEEP every penny that they and their family is entitled to.
I would like to know if Anthony is single and what nationality is is. I bet single and black, let me know if I am wrong.
If you want to be altruistic and help out your fellow man so that we can all “be equal” it’s not by having people stand in line waiting for a handout. I’m sure that the minority people, black, hispanic from the inner city who have got off their ass and either got an education or started a business would be insulted by the person above who said that it all depends on where they live that determines how succuessful they can become.
What about the influx of Russian, Polish, Middle Eastern people that basically came here recently from overseas and either opened a store or started some sort of trade business from scratch, you don’t see them crying, “oh boo hoo I need a handout”.
So what you are saying that if you’ve lived here all your life it’s harder to make something of yourself than if you just got off the boat. Now that makes no sense does it.
If you want to help out people who are on bad times would’nt the extra money that you DON’T PAY in taxes be something that you could use to help the others out. However if you want the gov. to take more of your money in taxes then you have less for yourself and less to help out the unfortunate.
If you look at the tax laws it says that you are entitled and have the right to pay the LOWEST taxes that you are required by law, wether you are an individual or corporation. The SMART tax payer takes all deductions and expenses they legally can subtract to keep them the most money that THEY EARNED and do what ever they want with it. The unintelligent complain and call it a “tax loophole for the rich”, No it’s the tax code law, use it to your benefit or remain stupid. By the way if you are a RE investor you should be doing it as a corporation and then YOU can take advantage of all those so called “LOOPHOLES”.
I am white and the most unracist person around, I am over 40 and have always had friends or girl friends from about 50 different nationalities and I could give a rats ass what color skin the President is. I want the most qualified, experienced with the american political system, up holder of what the men who started this country stood for, the constitution and a person who stands for the good of all the people of this country. Not someone who thinks he knows a better way to have the USA be, his own agenda and who want the people and corporations to have less right and freedoms, who SHOUTS,I’ll give you change but never says what or how the change will benefit me or the country.
If you have heard of Fr. Michael Pfleger from Chicago, no one knows him better than I do. I have known him since 1974 when he was a deacon, I saw him ordained, I moved him into his suite at St. Sabina’s and actually painted his suite before he moved in. I visited him by train, then subway, then walked the last 6 blocks through the ALL BLACK south side of Chicago before I could drive.
He was and is very devoted to the black community and has done alot to help them over come obstacles, drugs, alcohol, to make them better people and more successful in their lives. This positive made me very proud to know him and call him a friend of mine. Then I saw him on TV making fun of Hillary, a fellow HUMAN BEING and I was disgusted and totally embarrassed and ashamed of him. He is frinds with B.A.
It will take alot of change of attitude on Pfleger for me to ever say he is a friend of mine again. Also, this is not about abortion or gay rights those issues are important but only a small and more personal issue than, the price of gas-oil, food, housing, the economy, illegal aliens. These issues effect ALL the people of this country wether you believe it or not. AND SO………………..
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe white people need
to spend their time at the back of the bus.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe three or four pointy headed
elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that paying $5.00 a gallon or more is no reason to drill for the mountain of oil we are sitting on in THIS country. We wouldn’t want to have to move a couple of Polar bears now would we?
I’m voting Democrat because: when we pull out of Iraq, I trust that the bad guys will stop what they’re doing because they now think we’re good people.
I’m voting Democrat because: I like it when planes fly into buildings full of civilians. I want to see more of that.
I’m voting Democrat because: I don’t want a stimulus check to spend. Let the government spend it for me.
I’m voting Democrat because: freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
I’m voting Democrat because: I love the fact that I can now marry
whatever I want. I’m going to marry my cat.
I’m voting Democrat because: I’m not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
I’m voting Democrat because: I don’t want to eat poison food and drink dirty water. We all know Republicans love that stuff. Ever wonder why the most left wing country in the World (China ) is the
most polluted?
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that when the terrorists don’t have to hide from us over there, when they come over here I don’t want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that churches should only be allowed for political speeches.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the employees.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that I don’t want Doctors who were at the top of their classes to operate on me. I want a government employee who makes $50k a year and couldn’t
hack it as a contractor or an engineer.
I’m voting Democrat because: I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius.
I’m voting Democrat because: I REALLY believe there is no bias in the media. I’m All for CHANGE!!
The intelligent will understand this is why im voting for McCain’
Buda, I wish I had thought of some of that stuff. But the reason most of the “people right of the boat can open businesses successfully and makes a little money is that the gov. gives them tax incentives (does not have to pay any) for 10 yrs. I think I’m correct about that. I call that an unfair advantage in a way. No offence intended to anyone. Why don’t we (Americans) have that same privelige.
To Buda,
Wow!! And thanks. If you start your own party, you’ll get my vote.
Buda,
My race and marital status are none of your concern. With that said, I agree with you. Who wouldn’t want to “find, fix-up and sell or rent property and NOT KEEP every penny that they and their family is entitled to”? I know I do. Just not at the expense of someone else’s happiness.
I apologize for continuing to bring up Christianity, because I’m really not all that religious of a person. (Spiritual yes, religious no). But Jesus said “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”. You can interprate that any way you want, but I don’t think that it means that rich people won’t go to heaven. I think it’s a way of telling us that obtaining riches shouldn’t be our priority in life. Jesus spent a lot of time with the poor during his short time on Earth. He loved them and honored them, and told them that “the Kingdom of God would be there’s”. I never read about him telling them to “get off their lazy asses, and get a job”.
Also, I didn’t say that it depends on where a person lives that determines how successful a person can become. Basically what I said is that poor people have a lesser chance at being successful, primarily because they have a lot more to overcome. Many of those Black people that you say “got off their ass and got an education or started a business” were exceptional people. Many of them overcame tremendous obstacles. The problem is, most people aren’t exceptional. Regardless of color, most of us are just average people, capable of average results. So you take that average person and put obstacle after obstacle in front of him, the chances for him to excel become almost impossible. But you take that same average kid and put him in Naperville, IL (a Chicago reference for you Buda), and suddenly his life is a whole lot rosier.
Back to the future President. You Republicans had it your way for the last eight years. How was it? Is the economy better or worse before Bush got in? Is unemployment higher or lower? Are food and gas prices substantially higher or lower? Are the rich richer, or are the poor poorer? These are just rhetorical questions. Obviously, we all know the answers.
Bush failed this country miserably. He put us in a ridiculous amount of debt. He put us in war that we shouldn’t be in. He ruined our economy. Hell, he even tried to sell our ports to the Arabs. Is this what you want more of?
Obama stands for change. What change you ask? At this point, I really don’t care. If all he did was just change the color of the paint on the Oval Office’s walls, at least it wouldn’t mortgage the future of this country the way Bush has. And all McCain has to offer is more of the same. Thanks, but no thanks.
Buda,
I like the cut of your jib. Good thoughts, now maybe some of the so called Obama supporters will tell us what his idea of change really is, because listening to his speeches sure as hell doesn’t give me any information.
Greg, there are some interesting incentives for regular Americans wanting to start a business too, they just aren’t so easy to find and don’t always apply to the business you want to start. Oh, well!!
One way to get some of the changes we need for business is to get rid of Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, and several others in Congress because that is where the real problems are and have been for the last 30 years.
For anyone that thinks I only pick on Dems, the most vial person in my life time was a Republican, Frank Church. A person that should have been tried for treason because of his gutting of the CIA. Why do you think we have had such bad intelligence for the last 30+ years? Study history folks, there is a lot to learn.
Chris
there has been many comments left for both sides. Let’s face it, no one is going to change their mind of who they are going to vote for. I know I am not. I will still vote for McCain because I don’t think we will get more of the same as we had with Bush.
Some people keep saying what this administration has done as far as the economy, the war, the debt, etc. Let’s not forget that we have a democratic congress and senate that isn’t doing much either. They are just as much at fault as Bush is as far as i’m concerned. We will never clear up the problems with this country as long as there is politicians. How many politicians actually keep their so called promises.
The parties will never come together for the good of the country. They vote along the lines of their party because they are expected to and if they want to get further along in their career they need to do that otherwise they are blackballed.
As far as Anthony’s comment about keeping your money at the expense of someone else’s happiness? Do you really think by giving more money to the government that it will make less fortunate people happy? The government will not help these people. The government, especially the dems. want to control these people because the more they give them the more they vote for them. As long as the people with money are in power, republicans and democrats, they will pass laws that is good for them and not the poor and put a spin on it like it is helping people. The sooner you accept that the better for you.
You are better off keeping your money and putting it to use to help the poor because you will use it wisely and have it going to where you want it to go. I do appreciate your intentions Anthony and i can see you have a heart for this but by electing someone like Obama, in my humble opinion, is not going to make a difference. He is for change but never says what that change is. What if he makes change that goes against what you believe in? I am not trying to change anyone’s mind, as I said that I don’t care what arguments we have that people have already made up their minds, but I am stating my views. I don’t like what the dems stand for and the republicans stand for more of what I believe in.
this has been a spirited blog and got nasty at times. I respect everyone’s opinion and you all are entitled to it as that is what makes this country great. I wish everyone that participated all the best.
Anthony,
First of all EVERYONE has obstacles in life. NOt just black people. I have had to overcome many things myself and noone promised it would be easy. NO easy button came with our lives.
You really need to study history of this nation. It takes hard work and determination to make it in life. Doesn’t matter who it is…only exception are people who are born into wealth of course. But many of these parents teach their how to work and make money. Trump is case in point with his kids. He’s just not handing them the empire. Hand outs take away incentive.
Our forefathers escaped oppression. Blacks were not the only race that had been slaves. Whites lived and live under oppression still today even!
When they escaped being oppressed under England rule they came here and later formed a beautiful document called the Declaration of Independence and later the constitutions. Take the time to read and study these documents. Take the time to really understand what it means to be free. Free from people or government telling us how to run our lives. Freedom of speech for example, which we are enjoying right here. In some countries this could not happen today.
Freedom to choose the way your life ends up. Good or bad and that right is extended for all people. It says the right of the people to “pursue life, liberty and happiness”. Not “handed” to but they have the right to PURSUE it!
It has NOTHING to do with race and everything to do with the vision the candidates have and the leadership they exude.
May I remind you of the highest ranking office a black fellow achieved was General Colin Powell under a Republican administration. Secretary of State and later Chairman of the JOint Chiefs of STaff.
And may I remind you of a most qualified, accomplished most impressive Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice! Again under a Republican administration. We as Republicans believe in people NOT government to be the answer! And you have two people right there in your race that you can stand to emulate and be very proud of. Another is Justice Thomas…what an impressive man and decent human being you can lay claim to!
And two other resources for you are Mr. Thomas Stowell…he is an Economics Professor and is an excellent columnist. One other is Mr.Walter Williams. Google them…open your mind up to a new idea and a new viewpoint. YOu have got some excellent role models to look up to who understand what makes this country great! And it is NOT the government it is the people that make up this nation. And it is open for all to partake if [and it's a big IF] … they are willing to do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true.
As for taxes, I have been a volunteer all my life. I truly believe in giving back. But I want the choice to give not be dictated to and forced to give to things I may not believe in. Like abortion. But my tax dollars go to support this. this is Un-American and unconstitutional.
Yes, we have to have taxes, I have no problem with that…but I think when we end up working 6 months out of the year just to pay all our taxes…that is excessive and it’s Boston Tea Party time. I could go on and on …but need to stop!
Out of everyone that has posted here, I think Keith has probably made the most sense so far. Politicians are going to be politicians. Whatever they tell us now, does not always come to fruition once they take office.
To Mel, yes everyone has obstacles in life and I’m glad that you were able to overcome yours. But it’s hard for me to tell someone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, when they don’t have any boots. Not only do they not have boots, they don’t really know what boots are. No one in their family ever had in boots, and no one in their neighborhood ever had any. The school they went to didn’t teach about boots, and their church only told them that they would get their boots in heaven. The only thing they know about boots is what they see on television. So boots to them, is more of a fantasy rather than an obtainable goal. Obviously I’m being metaphoric here, but you get the picture.
I don’t like handouts either, but the reality is that they help a lot of people that really need them. Sure, there are people that abuse the system. But I would rather risk helping them, than to eliminate the help to people that rely on that help.
Republicans only seem to have a problem helping poor people. When a corporation is faced with bankrupcty, it’s usually the Republicans that rush to their aid. When farmers have a bad crop season, Republicans are there again with aid. When a new sports stadium needs to be built, its usually Republicans that want to use our TAX DOLLARS to build it. Now if this isn’t welfare, what is it? Helping the rich, and ignoring the poor? There is nothing more unconstitutional and Un-American than that.
Anthony,
I truely feel your compassion for the poor people. The problem I have is that government programs don’t work. When you start giving people hand outs they don’t get anymore motivation to help themselves out of their situation. Taxing people more is not the answer because the govenment will not put that money to use to help the people. I disagree with you as far as when sports teams need stadiums or the rich need a bailout as the Republicans are more apt to help them. I think both parties are at fault here. If you truely want to help these people then keep your money instead of paying more taxes and start a foundation to help these people. Control the money to where you want it to go. This is the solution. The more the government gets involved with anything the more it mucks things up. I would like to see a Steve Forbes or Ross Perot running this country because they understand that the country and the money it takes in needs to be run like a business. The only we can turn this around is to vote everyone in office out of office. I am all in favor of senate term limits. We limit our president why don’t we limit our senators. We need to get people Like Ted Kennedy and John McCain and all the senators that have done nothing for years except collect paychecks and pensions when they retire at full pay. We need to change the dynamics of our government and the way it operates. We need to take back our country before it is too late and it may already be. Again we need to take the politics out of the government and that will probably never happen
Before I start ignore any typos, I have to do this fast because I need to make some money today to pay my bills and taxes.
anthony my delutional, yet spiritual (good thing) friend. I don’t really care what your marital status or race are. I just wanted to know to make my point. I say you are single because if you were married and had children to pay for you would not be so quick to give your hard earned money away to the government. Also, I know you are black and only voting for Obama because he is black, do you know why I know this because of your most ignorant comment you have made so far, “What change, I really don’t care what change”. Would you vote for Hillary? But I knew you would not answer and put it back on me because to use one of your words, you are a coward.
Also, you say that the only people from the city that have been successful have been “exceptional”, That is the most ridiculus thing I have ever heard. I’m not talking about becoming a mega-millionaire like a rapper, how about just an average respectable middle classer. I’m a real estate appraiser in Chicago and I travel to EVERY neighborhood of the Chicagoland area. I have met some of the nicest, happiest, proud, hard working people in ALL black neighborhoods. And do you know what they want, they want the the thugs, drug dealers and the lazy ass no good doers OUT of their neighborhoods. So your arguement is pointless.
And you dont have to apologize for bringing up religion or sprituality. But I don’t think you even understand the point that is being made by the scriptures you qoute. What they are saying is don’t get all caught up in just aquiring riches for yourself to hoard, but use those riches to enrichen the lives of your family, friends and the less fortunate, HOWEVER, if you DON”T HAVE those riches YOU CAN’T enrichen the lives of others.
And who ever said about making money “at the expense of others” I don’t recall anyone bring that up but you.
Now let’s talk about where we live again. Everyone has the same government programs available to them no matter where they live. I was born in the city and my dad worked hard to be able to move us to the suburbs, nothing was handed to him. Then he was either laid off or lost a job, but you know what he kept fighting and got another job so we could be comfortable, NOT wealthy by any means, just comfortable.
So then I, by working MY ASS off both in school and working 3 or 4 jobs to make money to pay my way through college all by myself, to make something of myself. Then I worked my ass off again at 2-3 jobs to pay for my house and kids. It’s not about where you live, it’s about determination to be successes and make something of yourself not expecting the government or someone else to do it for you, to do something with your lives and to help out those who cannot. Oh by the way I volunteered working at the Catholic Charities soup kitchen for the homeless in the city for 3 years and spent my Thanksgiving and Christmas days feeding the homeless and poor. What have you done since you keep preaching about the government helping?
Lead, follow or get out of the way, is a saying that I see in a particular gym that I ref in. I live by this saying.
By the way DON”T EVER try to coach any youth any sporting activities or art or acting because playing sports, like life it self, is nothing but getting over, around and through obstacle after obstacle after obstacle. And making an excuse that prople CANNOT be successful because of so many obstacles is the lamest, pity party, cry baby reason I have heard.
So know let’s talk about Bush. Do you actually think that the president of the United States is sole responsible for everything that happens in the US? If you do, which you have indicated by your statement, then you really should go back to high school or junior high and retake US Government 101. There happens to be other branches of government that have more power overall then the President. So HE and only HE ruined are economy, well first of all our economy is NOT ruined, we are not in a recession there happens to be cycles that countries and economies go through.
The reason the the prices of oil, gas, food and everything else related to oil is so high is the FACT that our dependency on foreign oil has been perpetuated by the democratic congress who, because they are in the pocket of the extreme evironmentalists who do not want to drill for oil in our own country. Now don’t go saying, oh it will hurt the environment to drill in the US, yep that’s what all the liberals want you to believe but the FACTS ARE that it won’t. I am the biggest nature and animal lover around BUT a caribou or polar bear is not paying to put gas in my tank or food on my families table. Also, a democratic politian got the bill passed the allows speculators to not have to back up their oil price speculations with actual cash like other commodities have to, so they were able to JACK-UP the price of oil without any consequence to them selves. So you can blame the high price of EVERTHING on I guess, your fine democratic congressmen, not the President.
A war we should not have been in, who told you this? Read the letter below.
Letter from one ‘Angry Woman’
I don’t know who wrote it but they should have signed it. Some
powerful words. This woman should run for president.
Written by a housewife from New Jersey and sounds like it! This is
one ticked off lady.
‘Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we? Was it or was it
not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on
September 11, 2001?
Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not
brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the
Potomac from our nation’s capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible,
burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they?
And I’m supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was ‘desecrated’
when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it
wet?…Well, I don’t. I don’t care at all.
I’ll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and
repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.
I’ll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East
start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is
a crime in Saudi Arabia .
I’ll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for
chopping off Nick Berg’s head while Berg screamed through his
gurgling slashed throat.
I’ll care when the cowardly so-called ‘insurgents’ in Iraq come
out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion
by hiding in mosques.
I’ll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in
search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of
their suicide.
I’ll care when the American media stops pretending that their
First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international
law instead of the United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing
up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don’t
care.
When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who
have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident,
rest assured: I don’t care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is
told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take
it to the bank: I don’t care…
When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer
mat, and fed ’special’ food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is
complaining that his holy book is being ‘mishandled,’ you can
absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don’t care.
And oh, by the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s spelled
‘Koran’ and other times ‘Quran.’ Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you
guessed it-I don’t care !!
If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail
friends. Sooner or later, it’ll get to the people responsible for
this ridiculous behavior!
If you don’t agree, then by all means hit the delete button.
Should you choose the latter, then please don’t complain when more
atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great
Country! And may I add:
‘Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a
difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem’
– Ronald Reagan
I have another quote that I would like to add AND…….I hope you
forward all this.
‘If we ever forget that we’re One Nation Under God, then we will
be a nation gone under.’ Also by.. Ronald Reagan
One last thought for the day:
In case we find our selves starting to believe all the
Anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember
England ’s Prime Minister Tony Blair’s words during a recent
interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he
believes so much in America , he said: ‘A simple way to take
measure of a country is to look at how many want in.. And how many
want out.’
The last thing, by the way, that we should do is to elect as
President of the United States, someone who claims to love America
yet, WILL NOT salute the flag, WILL NOT pledge allegience to our
flag, and sat in a church for 20 years listening to a ‘pastor’
that HATES America! Are you Freakin’ kidding me?
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON,
AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.
AMEN! ( I’m passing this on Lady. God Bless You and God Bless
AMERICA !!!)
Ok One last thing Obama is the worst speaker and thinker I have heard when NOT reading from a speech. Listen to him answer a question or try to get someting out. He can’t say a complete sentence he all uhms and ahs and stamers around. Oh I almost forgot, can you tell me HOW me got into an Ivy League school since he won’t release his records and ADMITS that in high school he did alot of drugs, was apoor student, was’nt really there most of the time. Hmmmm, unless you can prove me wrong I’d say they had a quota to fill. Did you happen to catch the Saddleback conference Obama was at. When asked of ALL the Supreme Court Justices that hav been appointed which one would you not have recommended. And he picks Clarence Thomas the black man (who is NOT a liberal of course) but who is a constitutional scholar attorney, who has wrote books, articles, supreme court desisions and opinions. Besides writing books so he could make money what professional articles or writings has Obama done………….ZERO !!!! He has NO EXPERIENCE MAN !!!
At this time would like to commpliment the obviously intelligent other forum writers especially Mel who has pointed out some of the great Americans who have actually done great things for our country.
In closing, Anthony I will sit here and honestly tell you that the people writing here care more about you and would do MORE things for you than Barack Obama would ever do. For your own good and the good of your family listen to what they are saying.
The Democrats want to have you in their pockets, they want you to be oppressed, beat down, take away your freedoms and rights so that you can come crawling to them begging for them to help you out. In the mean time they become richer and richer at your expense, WAKE UP AND JUST SAY NO, have you seen Al Gore or John Edwards homes?
Or you can just keep on being naive and follow the propaganda like the followers of Mussolini, Hitler, Lenin, Castro, Edid Amin, Saddam Husein, Malosavic, Park, Tojo the list goes on and on. We are on your side, B.O. and the rest of the dems are not.
Your friend Buda
In the begining of this forum we were asked to express our view on who will be the best Prsident for RE investors. It is apparent, not only for all reasons given on this forum, but also for experience, honor, honesty, judgement, attitude and many other reasons, that John McCain will be the best choice.
Any candidate other than a Liberal Democrat would be a better choice. Most people on this forum realise through intelligence or experience that the Democratic leadership in Washington is not out to help anybody than themselves. The Democratic party has a membership because they offer monitary incentives to their less experienced or gullable followers. We all know the best con men have to be great speakers, and the Democrats have a group of them.
The Democrats create class and race warfare to keep the people stirred up and unaware of the direction they are leading this country. Always remember that the real power in this country lies in the Congresss and that has been controlled by over 2/3 ’s of the time in the last century by Democrats. Their socialistic policies have this country in a quandry.
The class warfare is a fake. The Democrats don’t hate rich people,(they too are rich) they fear them. Rich people are less controllable than the poor, there are fewer of them to vote, they can represent a political threat, because of their money, intelligence and influence. Remember the poor are poor partly because they are being taught to be poor by their family and the “poor me” society, just as the rich teach their kids to be rich and how to stay rich. No one was any poorer than me being the first son of an Irish Immigrant Alcoholic. It took me till 32 to realize that I had controll of my life and I could choose to be “poor me” or I could get off my duff and teach myself to do better through attitude. If the Democrats really carred about the poor they would pass legislation to have all the various Welfare type programs run by private faith based organizations that are required by law to distribute 93% of the money they take in. The govt. programs waste 60% on beuracracies.
The racism is almost extinct in this country except for the Democrats and activists that keep it alive to further their ambitions and their pocketbooks.
For my last thought, which I have labored over for the last week thinking it may be too crass. I will offer it and ready myself for any deserved critism.
Which candidate will be better for RE investors? Considering that Democrats are in favor of abortion, which has lost us 40 million potential buyers, sellers and renters since January 1973 (Roe v. Wade) I will vote for the Pro Life candidate and hope something can be done about it for future RE investors.
Buda, Well said and I couldn’t agree more. To say that Obama is a man without qualifications is like saying the sky is blue. All a person has to do is look up.
I was watching some moron on Fox claiming that Clarence Thomas wasn’t properly qualified to have been a Supreme court judge because he had only been on the appeals court for one year. When she was asked by the Fox correspondent what about the 30 judges that had never served on the appeals court. Quess what, just like Obama all she did was stammer around, not answer the question and febbly restate her contention he wasn’t qualified.
The country is working at going to hell in a hand basket but it isn’t because of Bush and it isn’t because of the Republicans. It is because too damn many people don’t want to be responsible for their own actions, don’t want to think for themselves and are too cowardly to take a risk.
Every religion I have studied speaks of free choice and being responsible for your own actions. Is this why so many are afraid of having some religious references in our country? Is it they figure that by taking all religion out of schools and courts and government it will be easier to make this a damn “nanny state”?
Like the idiots in the District of Columbia whom are working so hard to circumvent the lastest Supreme Court decision saying the Second Amendment applies to everyone and people do have a right to have firearms. Yet the governing body of D.C. says not so fast maybe we can make it impossible some other way. What a bunch of self serving hypocrites!!
Are people like this who we want to run our country, or do we want a person that when told he could leave a POW camp before others that had been imprisoned longer he said NO!
I for one want a person that has some back bone! Not some whiney jerk that has a wife that is blantantly against America, that has no respect for the flag, whom surrounds himself with terroist and criminals. You want a real shock read some of Hitler’s speaches and then read Obama’s. Could have been the same speech writer. He has nothing for this country. He has no service, he has no heart and he has no message.
Chris
I agree with Buba and Chris. Always thought I was the only one seeing and knowing it. When you got Obama & Hillary getting lots of campaign money by the boat loads from other people in other countries. And not all from the American People. That is something to start worrying about. (Selling us out)
Hope McCain picks Mitt Romney. Because Romney is a successful business man and just wants to help our country. He doesn’t need the money or power, just Loves his Country. This is where is family lives.
Nice factual posts by Chris and Bill. Yes, I’ve seen it too when ever a Dem person is asked a pointed question, they never answer it but beat around the bush and try change the subject or throw it back just like if you confront a child about something and they say well what about Joey he did such and such, never wanting to answer your question or take responsibility. They make comments based on personal opinion NOT actual facts.
Bill your comment about the abortion topic (and gay rights) like I said is a personal choice that people have to deal with. However, I have just one thing to say about it. Just because abortion is legal does not mean people have to do it. You may have the right to blow away a criminal breaking into your house but you don’t have to shoot them. Related story BELOW.
POINT MARION, Pa. (Aug. 19) — An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said. “I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun,” Leda Smith said.
Smith heard someone break into her home Sunday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor’s home was burglarized a few weeks ago. I said ‘What are you doing in my house?’ He just kept saying he didn’t do it,” Smith said.
After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.
“It was exciting,” Smith said. “I just hope I broke up the (burglary) ring because they have been hitting a lot of places around here.”
Now of course the Dems wnat to do away with the Second Ammendment which of course then the 85 year old woman would not have been able to protect herself from the criminal who broke into her house or be arrested for possessing the gun.
CHECK OUT THIS HUGE CONTRADICTION BY THE DEMS: Once again I think the abortion topic is a personal issue. However I think you will get a BIG KICK of how they talk out of both sides of their mouths and I have not heard anyone bring up this HUGE contradiction.
**They want you to have the right to be able to kill an unborn child with abortion. But you as a born person do not have the right to defend and protect your self from someone who might want to kill you. WHAT A JOKE !!!!!!! So in their minds it’s ok to take a life but yours is worthless and you can’t defend it properly.
Once again I’m going to vote for the candidate that will allow me to protect my real estate investments and myself and family properly, because if you have to wait for the cops to show up, it’s probably to late.
Yeah Chris the one candidate surrounds himself with convicted criminals, terrorists, preachers that are more interested in creating race and civil disorder rather than preach the word of god who tells people to be good, get along and help on another out. So what’s WRONG WITH THAT, HUH!! LOL I think those are such positives to have in your campaign chest, LOL !!
I do disagree with Chris when he says Obama has no message. He has a message all right, it’s: I am the almighty, follow me like a lemming, give me more of your money, you don’t need any rights or freedoms, I’ll take care of you until I decide that I don’t need you any more while I create my own country, the U.S. of Obama.
One more thing I had to rebutt. Someone said that Cindy MCcain had a go round with substance abuse, ok she dealt with it. Tell me which democrat celebrity has’nt? But that must be ok because they are under sooooooo much pressure deciding how to spend their millions or which club they should go to tonight. LOL !!!!
Ant, I hope your still reading.
It’s been fun today, Buda
Sorry for more but just had to agree with Kip with Mit Romney on the points he brings up about him.
Opps !! Almost forgot these important facts too. Not only will Obama NOT release his school records or medical records, his state senator records from IL have MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED so now he cannot release those records. What a crock of S–T !! John McCains records are an open book. I would’nt trust Obama with anyones life !!
Buda and anyone else interested,
Don’t you think it is interesting with someone like Cindy McCain, it is substance abuse, yet when Clinton or Obama use drugs in an illegal manner it is an experiment? Now what is that about?
Oh I know it is part of the message of change and honesty soon coming to an election booth near you!
When Kennedy killed that poor girl that was stupid enough to go for a ride with him, leaving her lifeless body in the water for hours, it was just a sad mistake and he was very sorry for it. Boo Hoo drunken rat that he was.
Look up Obama’s association with the current Mayor Daley of Chicago. Now do we really want someone like this in national politics as a shadow in the White House?
An interesting past we have with most of the prominent Dems and they whine about the Republicans. Give me a break.
Chris
Buda and others,
Isn’t his lack of transparency just another part of his message of change?
This is how I see the election shaping up:
Obama, “Can’t find any of my records, my cat ate them when I wasn’t looking while I was moving.” Remind you of a certain famous female?, hint her last name is Clinton. See this is the message I am getting over and over from Obama, I can be like Clinton only sneakier.
His running mate will also have a hard time finding his or her records also because they were helping Obama move and the cat was really hungry.
McCain, “What do you want to know? Here I haven’t anything to hide, look at anything you want. Need to see what is there don’t you?”
Like wise his running mate will not have any trouble finding his records to release also. They probably used a better moving company.
Chris
I’m really busy today, and don’t have much time to write. There hasn’t been much said that was worth responding to anyway. Just the same old Republican conservative garbage. Anyway, I did want to leave you a few links to read about your boy McCain and his so-called rock solid character. After reading these, hell, I might vote for him myself!

While burning race cards and some levels of social status to dirt, we have forgotten that, for all his experience, McCain is looked upon unfavorably by many Republicans, many of you here. And the discussion has digressed to whether a Boy Scout or a Marine (Navy man) is best for the country; send in the Marines(!), kind of discussion.
No disrespect to our men and women in uniform because they make the ultimate sacrifice everyday, but Marine tactics aren’t working…not in Iraq, not for the country. No matter what well-trained military person might say otherwise.
One look at where gas prices are and where they were 8 years ago and we have consensus we are a mess. And what has changed? Sure we have LOTS of people making babies; ever fewer dinosaurs to harvest…so what? The sick increase in gas prices from then to now is directly attributable to an extreme volatility in oil markets occurring since the current Middle East crisis and the Republican insurgency, not necessarily in that order “Speculators! Driving up the price!” they say. But can anyone admit who is not hurting at the pump? The (ahem) U.S. oil cartel or its Republican cabinet. And we are a mess.
So, it’s anything but Republican for me. Remove all the rhetoric and it would be a change that many would welcome. Those in party lockstep would disagree. But you’ll never hit the target in blinders, anyway.
Dear NL,
I don’t know where you are getting your inaccurate information about that Marine tactics not working in Iraq, it must be from Obama himself who won’t talk about the SUCCESS of the Marine SURGE, OH DO YOU KNOW WHY BECAUSE IT WORKED !!!!!!!!!!! Because then he would have to admit that he was wrong BUT he’s too much of a COWARD and PUSSY to do so !!!!!! Is’nt it funny that Obama and you when you know you are wrong want to skirt the issue and change the subject.
I would also reccommend that you re-read my previous post as to why the price of OIL went up. You mention the current Middle East crisis, well yeah brainiac that’s the point….WE NEED TO DRILL FOR OIL IN OUR OWN TERRITORY, THEN IT WOULD NOT BE FOREIGN OIL IT WOULD BE AMERICAN OIL AND THE $$$$ WOULD STAY IN AMERICA !!!! The MAJOR reason is A) Because of the DEMOCRATS who don’t want drilling for oil in the US and B) Because the speculators were unregulated and allowed to drive up the price.
It looks like you probably are not bright enough understand that ever since Bush lifted the presidential ban on off shore drilling that the price of oil continues to fall. But why don’t you just igmore the facts and keep on with your delusional democratic rhetoric so you can dodge the reality.
You also sound alot like Obama, alot of MUMBO-JUMBO without any facts to back you up.
Go ahead and vote for whomever you want it’s your life. But since I want mine to be better I would not ever vote for an unamerican, socialist wanna-be, leftwing radical supporting, racist like Obama.
In response to N.L Villanueva regarding gas prices.
You better check your facts. The gas prices didn’t start to go up until we got stuck with demoncrats for house and senate 3 years ago!!!
Trace it further and it’s the environmentalists that are causing the loss in supply due to us not being able to produce our own energy needs. And if you don’t get that take an Economics 101 class.
It’s all about supply and demand. And if we were allowed to drill for our own needs we would see prices drop tremendously. And we would empower our citizens rather than disempower them which the left is doing right now.
Needless to say it is fine to get us off oil and onto some other resource but in the meantime we need to
[drill here, drill now, pay less]. (google that)
Most people cannot just go out and buy a hybrid car or two, so now it is totally wrong for Nancy Pelosis to ignore us as she flies around in her jet. Totally hypocritical. She has no idea how the average American is hurt by these high gas prices she’s causing.
And then think about the winter what a hardship they are going to be causing to we “ordinary” not wealthy Americans! This is what you will see with an Obama in the White HOuse. You think it’s bad now??? YOu haven’t seen nothing yet. That man does not understand basic economics even! Scary stuff but then again he is anti-capitalism and pro-socialism! But somehow I’ll bet that he and other wealthy democrats will not be spreading their wealth around. But they’ll make everyone else, who has the drive & taken the incentive and risk to make money, and make them spread it around to less motivated individuals!
Hooray to the Republicans in congress with ba__s, who stayed and protested while the Democrats led by Pelosi left in their limos and jets, while the Repubs.stayed to protest not giving an up or down vote to drill for oil right here. The Repubs. by doing this show they care.
It is not Pelosis agenda to make it easier on the American people by allowing drilling. They know it will work and they want everyone to feel the pain of high gas prices so come NOvember they will vote Democrat because they are trying to blame Bush for this. And the Democrats are good at knowing that emotion is what moves people more than common sense and reasoning.
Another thing…They…these leftist environmentalists were always bothered by SUV’s so they are getting them away from the American people this way! While they live in their gas guzzling limos, jets and energy draining houses. Now that’s elitism! Plain and simple. And it’s found on the left & not the right.
If Bush could dictate the gas prices he would not hurt his party by having them be so high! He is NOT the one acting like a dictator here. Open your eyes! AND especially your mind. The truth is staring right at you!
A person that states “But you’ll never hit the target in blinders, anyway.” right after stating, “So, it’s anything but Republican for me.” is the one exhibiting the wearing of blinders.
I for one vote for the most qualified person and don’t care which party they belong too. I voted for Tom McCall, Senator Wayne Morse, very sad to say Jimmy Carter,(what a huge mistake I made there, I was young and foolish.)
I am still registered as a democrat for a number of reasons.
As for the comments about McCain and gun control, while he isn’t the best for gun owners, one look at Obama’s record tells it all. Oh and here is a great link showing exactly how he has voted.
http://www.nraila.org/obama/
Now to show equal time and that I can read many items here is another link.
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NGRhNzJlMWY5NjdiNzhjMTRkYjMzNjYwOGJmYzNjMTY=#more
This is an interesting number of comments by Joe Biden, imagine that.
Just so some might think I only pick on the left here is one more good link about McCain. http://www.nraila.org//News/Read/InTheNews.aspx?ID=10812
So here is a little for everyone.
As for oil prices, don’t listen to the talking heads. Follow the money instead. Here is some of the real scoop for you:
Oil production has peaked on a world wide basis and that is what it is, all the easy oil has been found and drilled.
India is growing great guns and working at putting a huge number of new cars on the road. News flash biggest car company in the world is Tata Motors, owners of both Jaguar and Land Rover.
China is building more new roads paved with asphalt faster than anyone else in the world, something like 25,000 miles this past year alone, and are building cars to fill them. Why do you think the Olympic cyclist wore filtering masks when they showed up in Beijing? The air sucks there! Also they drove up oil prices prior to the Olympics by about 10 to 20 dollars a barrel because they were buying all they could to stockpile for the Olympics. Fact not fiction, study commodity prices.
Most Oil speculators are not in this country and we can not do a damn thing to control it. So that is a giant red herring!
One very large reason we are paying more for oil is a weak dollar. As the dollar’s value goes down against other currency the price of oil goes up in adjusted dollars. This has been happening since 1919 so it isn’t a new problem that we can blame on Bush. It is history and fiscal policy for the last 90 years.
Now if you want to be serious about higher energy prices and that is what we are really talking about, a person has to go back for the last 30 years and look at who voted for what.
We have had nothing but an idiotic policy for the last 30 years. We have “don’t put it in my back yard!” So we have no increase in refineries or capacity for the same period. That has a very direct effect on gasoline prices.
We have “tear down the dams”, that has a direct effect on electric prices.
We have “don’t exploit the oil shale”, that has a direct effect on fuel and electric prices. Largest supply of energy in the world is in the Rocky mountains both Canadian and American.
We have “don’t use nuclear power”, that has a direct effect on electric prices. France generates 80% of their electricity with nuclear, it hasn’t melted down yet. The Russians use technology from the late 40’s for their plants. Only one’s stupid enough to do that.
We have “don’t use coal”, that has a direct effect on electric prices.
Does anyone besides myself see a pattern here?
Even wind farms are hard to site because Teddy and some others don’t want to see them. Their attitude is put it where the poor people live but not in our backyard.
The list goes on and on.
We have a tremendous dependence on foreign oil because we have made every turn a turn towards foreign oil. Don’t blame it on Bush or the insurgency or even the Arabs. They have a commodity and sell it to the highest bidder. We have said we want to be dependent and suckle the foreign tit for the last 30 years.
This is the very thing I could see and wrote about when I was in high school because it was an easy thing to see happening even then and I graduated in 1968. Every oil crisis has been easy to see coming and just like social security, no one wants to really address the huge problems because it would hurt people’s feeling and their sense of entitlement.
So either get people in office that are willing to make some decent choices about our energy needs, not that idiotic comment about inflating our tires, or quit whining about how much gas cost. We are our own worst enemies and it is time to take the blame for our willingness to support the liberal idiots that have taken this country down the primrose path. It isn’t that damn rosie to me!
Chris
Oooops, somebodys knowledge of history and politice is showing again. If you care to review history you’ll see the “same old Republican conservative garbage” is the basis our forfathers founded this country on. The left wing liberal spewings are the very European liberalism they faught to get away from in the late 1700’s. And you and Obama want us to go back to that??
As for our brave military, we are fighting over there so no battles occur on American soil. I’m happy to stay there for the duration no matter how long it takes. Probably you lefties don’t know that more mililtary died under Clinton’s pacification policies than have died under Bushes war efforts.
As for oil and the economy, you must realize economic policy is set by the Congress. The President can agree or veto the legislation, but the Congress can also override the veto. All economic problems are at the Congress’s doorstep.
Gas at the pump was $1.46 when Bush came into office. It was $1.86 when the liberals took over congress in Jan 2007. It went to $4 a gal in a year and a half under the liberal congress’s watch. If Clinton had not vetoed the Republican Congresses “drill for oil” energy legislation in 1995, we would be energy independent today.
Oil and gas prices…..direct results of liberal policies.
There seems to be 2 people on this forum not old enough or knowledgeable enough to have any sense of who really causes the problems. I’m starting to wonder if they are not just disgruntal half-Americans looking to stir the pot and make trouble. I’ve seen this before.
Amen brother Bill! You are right on the money there. NO pun intended!
I am out the door but wanted to comment of your comment with leaving England due to liberalism and no freedom. And todays modern slave propagators is the democrat party. Think about it. If they implemented some of their agenda, here’s what we would have:
1- Freedom of speech overridden by the so called fairness doctrine. Which wipes out free market policy. Whereby the left tried talk radio and failed miserably because they have no solid message that the majority of people want to hear. So under this fairness doctrine the government would step in and make conservative talk radio, FORCE THEM to put on lefties! But would they give equal time to all the TV shows that are secretly biased toward the left? Doubtful.
At least with talk radio you know exactly where they are coming from. Case in point Chris Matthews tried to hide his loyalty to the democrat party but let it slip out one time. He caught himself tOo late on live TV.
2- They would take away guns. And that would leave us totally defenseless to them. And anyone remember the Holacaust???? Defenseless people being treated like animals.
Just in those two things we have totally lost our freedom and are beholden to the slave owner…the deomocrats.
Live FREE or die!
Yes, I remember the “fairness doctrine” they tried to get in under Clinton. They will try again under Obama. Give the Dem’s credit for one thing….they started 30 years ago buying up all the media in this country. I have seen figures between 89-93% of all the media is owned by Democrats. That’s why so many people fall for the propaganda, it’s everywhere. Ole Chris Matthews was speech writer for democratic speaker of the house Tip O’Neil, before he became a “neutral” commentator on TV.
Did you know they tried “Universal Health Care” under Harry Truman in 1945 and the Democratic Congress turned it down as too socialistic. Of coarse back then the Dem’s were moderate, not as liberal as they are now since Ted Kennedy and Robert Bird assumed power.
There are so many things that young liberals don’t know about the history of Democrats, or the history of this country, that I can’t blame them entirely for their leftist views. Remember, they received their education in “government public schools”
You flunkies would surely march right off the cliff behind your leader. If my symbolism were reality it would rid the world of you wooden soldiers and make group-think a wonderful thing. But in reality group-think is really, really dangerous.
As one of the few, the proud, the independent thinkers, I am no less a patriot or citizen than anyone here. As a natural-born citizen and veteran of the US Navy, I may have a leg up on a few here.
Mel, I was hurt when you insulted my intelligence; until I considered the source’s grammatication, or lack thereof. And I’m better.
In my continuous search to optimize my time, energy, and resources, I am dropping out of this “debate”. May the best man win, and may that man not be an oil and/or military industrialist cartel leader. I don’t think our country can take it.
Just curious, wondering how long and hard this guy Anthony had to study to bring himself up to the level of being totally ignorant, and I am certain he excelled in the class. Without him having spelled it out it is apparent from his defense of Obama and his racist views where he is coming from. I have ran/managed several businesses over the years, and have had several blacks employed. Sadly there were perhaps 4 or 5 who were dependable, capable, honest, and not involved with drugs. which I was most intolerant. Other than the 4 or 5 that I recall currently, the others were without doubt the worst employees I had ever had. Anthony’s concern about racism, there are none more racist (that I have known) than blacks. If you want to really see racism in today’s times, watch it develop should the US elect Obama as president. And certainly Michelle (Obama’s wife)will add her contribution to it. As bad as one considers Bush, (whom I really do not like either) realistically consider how much worse it’d have been had we had either Kerry or Gore in office. And I think Obama would be even worse than either of them. I personally am not excited in seeing the possible McCain presidency, but he shall get my vote over any other choice we have. Hopefully by some miracle we shall also eliminate a few other choice winners as well come November, namely Pelosi, Reed, Kennedy, Edwards, Waters, Feinstein, Boxer, Shummer, and oh yea old what’s her name Clinton, among others. Sorry they all happen to be Lib/Dem’s and some Republicans well oughta go as well.
I am sure the US could/will survive with them, it’d just be much better with out them. It is time for the American voters to wake up and rid our government of the socialist/communist cancer in our government. I no doubt will have some nasty rebuttal to my message, in particular from Anthony, and that is fine, I am a big buy and can handle it, just question that he can.
So, NL, what’s your point? Didn’t see any facts, arguments, or opinions expressed, other than you’re against those who might vote for McCain.
How about this delicious bit of irony folks? Nancy Pelosi bought $100K in wind energy stock. She has a vested PERSONAL interest in high oil prices and keeping oil companies from opening up new sources.
And they said she was the least intelligent Speaker of the House ever…
Oz,
I’m sorry to dissappoint you, but I don’t have a nasty rebuttal for you. Besides your racist comment about Black people, you really didn’t say anything worth responding to. For whatever reason, you guys keep trying to piss me off by calling me names. Thats fine I guess, but I would assume that we could talk politics without the juvenile name calling. But if it makes you guys feel better about yourselves, fire away. They called Jesus names too.
Anyway Oz, what exactly was your point about saying that Black people were the worse employees that you ever hired? Are you perpetuating the stereotype that all Blacks are lazy? Are you saying that Obama would be a bad President because all the Black people you know were bad employees? What exactly is your point.
Did you ever think that you just have poor hiring skills, and are a poor judgement of people? My guess would be that you probably paid a very low wage, so you weren’t able to attract the best employees.
Let me enlighten you. Black people are not lazy. At least not anymore than any other race of people. I used to drive by a housing project every day on my way to work. I would drive by every day anywhere between 5am-8am. Wnenever I would drive by, I would see droves of people leaving the projects on their way to work. It would be so many people sometimes, it looked like a factory during shift change.
This is the working poor. Who do you think cleans your bathrooms in the buildings you work in? Who do you think washes your dishes at the restaurants you frequent? Who do you think are the maids at the hotels you vacation in? These are hard working people that are poor. They go to work everyday, but they are still poor. Their parents were probably poor too. They probably don’t have a high school diploma, and likely went to an underperforming public school.
Sure there are lazy people in the projects. But there are lazy people in the trailer parks too. So what? Why cut off our noses just to spite our faces? Why not help those people that are hard working and still struggling, and show them how to succeed in this world? I guarantee you, if those people had any clue as to how to get out of their situations, they would do it. They don’t clean toilets and live in the projects because they want to.
But hey, with the Republicans it’s every man for himself. “If I did it, so can they”. Well, was it illegal for your people to be educated for several hundred years in this country? Did people come into your ancestors homes (in this country) and sell your mother, father, brother or sister? Were your people denied the right to vote until only about 40 years ago? Did your parents or grandparents ever have their houses bombed because they tried to move into a decent neighborhood? Do you make 30% less than the Black person that does the same job as you? Do your kids go to inferior schools, and get inferior educations, because the government prefers to give most of the funding to the schools in Black neighborhoods? Have you ever been harrassed by the police for no reason at all?
I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point. And before you say it, these aren’t excuses. These are examples of the type of racism that has been, and still is, being inflicted on Black people in America. I guarantee you, if this was happening to you and the people you loved, you’d want the government to step in and do something about it.
If you all go back and reread my posts, I’m not the one that turned this discussion into one about race. I simply made the statement that many people in this country would never vote for a Black man as President in this country. Many well-respected politicians and political experts say the exact same thing on CNN every night. I don’t make this stuff up people. But once I said that, out came all the comments about food stamps, Cadillacs, and lazy Black people. And you guys have the nerve to call me the racist?
Someone on hear recently made the idiotic statment that “racism is almost non-existant in this country”. Tell that to Tiger Woods who has his life repeatedly threatened everytime he gets closer to Jack Nicklaus’ records. Or tell that to Obama himself, who’s had to have Secret Service protection almost from the start of his race for the Presidency. Do you think they just want to kill him because he has so little experience? Or maybe they want him dead because he says “um” too much when he talks. It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that’s he’s Black and he’s likely going to be the next President could it? Nah, that would be racist, and racism doesn’t exist in America.
Anthony,
On racism because obviously that is an open wound with you and we need to acknowledge that.
I am sorry for the racists that are out there. I am sorry that you have been hurt and your loved ones have been hurt. Truly I am.
I am sorry racism still exists, but you shouldn’t become a victim and focus on that garbage, especially that which happened so many years ago. The past cannot be changed.
We can only change today and tomorrow.
I take issue with your spin on Republicans. It is so untrue. I believe you will find people like that in all parties. Selfishness is what you describe when, “it’s every man for himself.”
We as conservatives believe the American Dream is there for all, not just one race. All people!… and you can see it being lived out all around you. All types of people coming here are achieving it, if they so desire. We believe in hand ups…and not hand outs. As I said hand outs do NOT work. I was on the receiving end of hand outs so I know first hand. It made me lazy and unappreciative because I never learned what sweat equity was. Well I have now, but when I was young I just didn’t have a clue how to work hard and earn something. So I know that hand outs don’t work.
Believe me, I absolutely believe we need to step in at times for those who truly cannot do for themselves but we are not doing anyone any favor by giving them a free ride who can do for themselves.
I also think there should be bridges built (not literally) for those who need help on getting started on this path though. Because I have been in that situation too, where i didn’t know how to get started and was to scared to ask or didnt’ know what to ask. So I see a need for that for all people, not just black. There are others too that are “stuck” if you will. Let’s help them get unstuck. But we need to be able to find each other.
For instance, there is free education or loans but some do not know they exist out there. So let’s do better on getting into those communities and building that bridge to “outta here”~!
Your accusations about Tiger Woods…how do you know this to be a fact? Is he your friend and confidante? Just remember that words are words and anyone can say anything! YOu must substantiate it and make sure it’s factual though. Evaluate the source and what their personal agenda is. Consider thoughtfully the sources of your information.
I think people like a Jessie Jackson and others keep the hatred stirred up with a lot of their rhetoric & victimization talk.
I would personally like to see a new group started for
blacks and whites. We really need to come together. There is division right now due to so many things like BET, Miss Black America and other black organizations that exclude whites and put that together with certain people keeping the hatred stirred up among the black community and it breeds division rather than uniting. I guess it’s in the white community, I personally do not see this hatred though.
We are the UNITED States, after all and it would be so powerful to actually unite.
I’m an idealist though and reality says there will always be hatred. Some just have to hate for some reason. But we still can try and combat it and grow our nation stronger through it by coming together for those who wish to do so.
What I’m suggesting is to form another alliance as I mentioned above and let’s start building bridges so all of us can become fellow Americans. And everyone wins then.
I have served along many black brothers and sisters and absolutely have been honored to do so.
We must recognize that if our nation was attacked we would then all become Americans as we would feel the need to protect our nation together. And in that instance we would definitely become brothers and sisters. We would become Americans, a unified nation that no one could break. Because Americans are strong, compassionate and generous when put to the test. And that, my friend is our power! Not government…but us!!!
I guess Anthony has forgotten that the Dem’s keep voting down school vouchers which would allow CHOICE AND COMPETITION to let the parents choose the best schools for their kids. Competition would improve all schools in this coountry. The Dems are in the pocket of the NEA union and don’t want the schools to improve.
Every candidate has Secret Service and most receive death threats. Remember Ford was fired on, Reagan was shot, Kennedy & Lincoln were killed, and several others I have forgotten. Tiger is 25% African American and I read Obama is only 6.25%, being half white and a lot of Arabic. (I have not independently verified that) Sorry. The kooks are out there on both sides. And what happened to the post where N.L. thought we “wooden soldiers” should be wiped of the face of the earth? Was that a threat? Hell, even I have been threatened for my “letters to the editor.”
If you want all classes of Americans to have a better life, really study what the socialist movements in other countries has done against the citizens, then study the underlying philosophy of the Liberals in your party. I had to do it, I’m a recovering Democrat myself. It took me many years of study to go against my fathers party.
I thought I would forward this excellent article since the original post was about “McCain vs Obama who is best for investors” and the author is a Professor of Economics and has an excellent book on “Economics”. And we as investors really need to understand economics and the free market so this is an excellent resource.
So with Mr. Thomas Sowell being black (an issue emerging on our thread) and an economist who really gets capitalism, listen to his humorous commentary.
It is long, but worth the read.
The article below was written by syndicated columnist, Thomas Sowell.
He wrote it in a humorous way this past week in a column titled ‘Random
Thoughts’ and published it in newspapers nationally,
so maybe you’ve already seen it. If not, be my guest:
(Embedded image moved to file: pic05545.jpg)
Senator John McCain could never convince me to vote for him. Only Hillary
Clinton or Barack Obama can cause me to vote
for McCain. After long and serious thought, I have decided to endorse
Senator John McCain for President.
I have always voted for the person and have not voted for anyone because
some political party was telling me who
I should vote for. We all know the choices by now and, that said, I do
believe that the process of selecting a
chief executive is deeply flawed. The words ‘money’ and ’special
interests’ come to mind, among many others.
Here’s the way I see it:
Barack Obama, you are a fine public speaker. You are also an extremely
liberal Senator from the State of Illinois ,
which has a long and rich history of political corruption of the first
magnitude. You are indeed a child of that system.
You have finally insulted my intelligence far beyond my capacity to
tolerate your insults. It has nothing at all to do with
your skin color. As a matter of fact, it would be so COOL to finally have
an African-American for President.
What a great statement that would be to the entire world that we are
indeed the greatest country on earth!
But, unfortunately, General Colin Powell is not running, and YOU are NOT
the man for this job !
Barack baby, you want me to believe that you have never heard the sermons
of your own pastor,
the Right Reverend ‘God Damn America’ Jeremiah Wright. It is a matter of
record that this has been your church
for over 20 years. It is a matter of record that you were married there by
this very pastor, and that your children
were baptized there. The good Reverend saw fit to visit Khadafy in Libya
with you and to give a lifetime achievement
award to Louis Farrakhan, of all people.
We have all now seen excerpts of his sermons all over the airwaves by now.
And you have publicly stated that this
man IS your ’spiritual mentor.’ BUT, your pastor is NOT the reason I am
NOT voting for you. His words were disturbing enough,
but it is your own HUGE church congregation, seen jumping, hooting and
howling to his words in the background that disturb
me the most. And please don’t tell me you attended church there and never
once heard a ‘discouraging word’ in the 20 years
you attended there. Don’t tell me, that in addition to the good reverend,
that you are now not having anything to do with all
those other people seen hooting and howling out in the audience in the
background of his fiery tirades.
Even Oprah Winfrey got disgusted and walked out on your campaign. I am no
Oprah fan, but still she did the right thing.
Now YOU look me in the eye and ask me to believe that you never heard such
language in all the years you attended there!
This is like me telling you that I attended dozens of Klan rallies and
never once heard the ‘N’ word. Yep.
And Bill Clinton ‘did not inhale’.
Yes, Mr. Obama, we all have friends who have said stupid things that
embarrassed us, but NOW you have asked me
to believe something that is so incredibly stupid that you are telling me
that I am just stupid enough to believe you.
THAT is the main reason that I will never vote for you.
I am deeply sorry, that in a country teeming with enormously talented
African Americans who would make a good President,
that the political system has chosen YOU. You are a pathetic and plastic
excuse for an American, who will not even salute
the Flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. God forbid you ever get near the
Oval Office.
Which leaves us with Senator John McCain. John, you are a flawed man. You
are a bit old, a bit loony, and you have
a notoriously bad temper. This perfectly qualifies you, in my humble
opinion, to lead us for the next eight years.
I WANT your trembling hand on the nuclear button.
Think about it. We have Kim Jong IL, Chavez and Ahmadenijad all running
around like lunatics, threatening America
and threatening to plunge the world into nuclear Armageddon. We have Putin
and the Chinese blustering and rattling
their sabers at us. I want John McCain in the Oval Office and I want him
to be really ticked off at all these other nut jobs
around the planet.
John, once you are elected, I want you to go into the Oval Office and
throw one of your perfect FITS. Jump up and down
and throw something through a plate glass window. Rip the drapes down and
foam at the mouth a bit. And I want the whole
thing on camera so that Ahmadinejad can see it. I want ALL of these ‘world
leaders’ to lay awake at night and to break out
in a cold sweat every time they think of messing with the United States of
America . I want the nuclear button sitting right
next to the alarm clock on your night stand. I want pictures of this to be
sent to Iran , Russia , China , Venezuela , Cuba ,
Libya , Syria , Pakistan , and those other dopes in the sheets, the
Saudis.
On the domestic front, poor John did try and reach across the aisle to the
opposition in a desperate effort to compromise
and to get the Congress to do something. You may not agree with his
efforts, but at least he TRIED. For all his efforts,
all he got handed to him was his head in a basket. The liberals are ticked
at him and the conservatives are ticked at him.
Just my kinda guy.
I predict that John will select Senator Joe Lieberman as his running mate.
Good choice. I want a Jew whose memory of
the Holocaust is still fresh in his mind and who is royally ticked off at
all of these towel-headed morons in the Middle East
to be the next in line if something should happen to John. Shalom, Vice
President Joe. One heartbeat from the Oval Office.
Finally. John McCain knows on a most personal level what it is to suffer
horrible torture for years and to see others die,
right in front of you, for their love of America . When you ask him about
it, he will tell you that what he did was
‘nothing special. ‘ Even more incredibly, he states that ANY American who
truly loves his country would do exactly
the same as he did in that situation. You and I will have a hard time
believing that, but the real point is that John McCain
believes that about the ‘average American,’ and that, dear friends and
neighbors, is why I will cast my one poor ballot for
on election day for John McCain — warts and all.’
Mel,
Racism should be an open wound for EVERYONE in America. Not just me. Not just Blacks or Hispanics. EVERYONE! Unless you support the unfair treatment of a whole race of people, soley because of the color of their skin, then racism should be a sore spot for you too.
I am no one’s victim, but I have been affected by racism. And so have you, along with everyone else in America. Racism affects us all, whether we know it or not. The past should not be forgotten. The future is shaped by the past. There are lessons to be learned from the past, and ignoring them does us no good. Try asking Jewish people to forget about the Holocaust. No one in this country is brave enough to do that. Why do we feel it is ok to ask Black people to forget about slavery?
I agree, the American Dream is available to us all. The problem is, there are forces in place to keep some of us from achieving that American Dream. And some of us didn’t have far to go, in order to achieve the Dream. While many of us have so far to go, the task seems insurmountable.
The reason things like BET and Miss Black America were started, is because for decades, Black people were left out of arenas like this. The Miss America pageant was in existence for over 60 years before a Black woman won. BET was created because Black people wanted their own media outlet, because the main stream media either ignored them or portrayed them in negative lights. I don’t see these outlets as divisive, I see them as giving people a chance to express themselves, that they wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Mel, you seem like a nice guy. But I think you’re a little too idealistic. America has no history of being fare to anyone other than the majority, unless the government stepped in to mandate it. Not talking about racism and inequalities doesn’t make them go away. We HAVE to talk about them, and figure out a way to make things better for EVERYONE. You say we all need to come together, and I agree with that. But what are we going to talk about? If we can’t talk about the problems, then how can we fix them?
You never once heard me talk about handouts. I hate handouts, and welfare and foodstamps. But I am for helping people that have fallen on hard times.
Mel,
That was great, one of the big reasons we are in the situation with terroist is because of the milk toast attitude and actions of some of our past leaders. Carter, Clinton and their people, Albright all come to mind.
The most important point you made however is one I have been overlooking, “When you ask him about it, he will tell you that what he did was ‘nothing special. ‘ Even more incredibly, he states that ANY American who truly loves his country would do exactly
the same as he did in that situation.”
Now this is a guy that believes in US, ME, YOU. We need a president that believes in us, the AVERAGE AMERICAN. The best president for investors, for anything, is the one that believes in what made this country great, the average person on the street.
Who fought WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, the current war? Us the average person. Who supported the troops, built the planes, ships, tanks? The average working person. Who grows the food, makes the cars, builds the houses? The average person!! Who loves America? The same average person, be he born here or a legal or illegal immigrant these are all average people that love America and want to be here.
Isn’t it about time we have the sense to vote for someone that is truly interested in the average person, that doesn’t think we all need handouts to survive, that doesn’t think the government is the be all and end all of life in these 50 states?
McCain and his wife are investors, they have 7 houses, some they live in, some their family live in. Do we want a person to lead our country that has to have felons help him buy houses, or do we want a person that has a family history of investing and helping others to lead us?
I vote for the more honest person, a person with a positive attitude about life, a person with values more like my own.
Before I was voting for McCain beause he was what I saw as a better choice than Obama, for I see Obama as a very negative, bitter person with a deep hated for his life and past. Now I am voting for McCain because I understand why he doesn’t support pork barrel spending, why he gets pissed off and why he believes in us, the average American.
Chris
Anthony,
I don’t think anyone is trying to put you down or piss you off any more than I think you are trying to piss others off.
A point that is often overlooked is the more one focuses on something the more likely the event will happen. As people constantly focus on how badly they were mistreated in the past the more likely they will find they are being mistreated in the present!
Yes we had slaves in this country and that was sad, it is history and needs to be treated as such. We had indentured servants in the past, and actually commonly in the present amoung the asian immigrants, and this is no more than a type of slavery also.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indentured_servant
For those not familiar the link will give you a pretty good explanation.
I am part Algongian indian, you want to talk about a class of people oppressed? Seems liked the freed slaves were a pretty big part of the group that helped slaughter my fore fathers, the indians, as buffalo soldiers. So does that mean I should hold a grudge, get pissed off, start a seperate pagent, TV network? Of course it doesn’t.
We need to think instead about what makes us alike, how we are all the same and not how we are different. People like Jackson, Sharpton, and Malcolm X do none of us any favors. My brother-in-law grew up in the most violent part of Philadelphia and now makes 6 figures working part of the year in Saudia Arabia as an advisor. He is a black man the can’t stand all the whining.
Everyone makes mistakes, sometimes it is a country, sometimes it is just part of the system. When it is over then it is time to move on. I have moved on, my brother-in-law has moved on and it is time we move on as individuals and as a country.
Compared to when I was a kid there is no racism left in most of the country. Sure there are hold outs and some idiots will always exist as they have since the dawn of time. If we give them less notice they will fade away, if we enforce the laws we have they will be crushed under the weight of the legal system.
Let us all face it, there are plenty of lazy blacks, lazy whites, lazy arabs, lazy asians, lazy hispanics, lazy indians, just lazy people. Yet there are a lot of people that are not lazy. We don’t want to penalize the hard working people for the ones that don’t want to get off the couch.
Most taxes don’t do much for us. We need a very strong national defence, great roads, good educationa system, (which we don’t have right now) and little else. We don’t need more taxes, we need less spending. Most of our taxes goes to crap better left to the private sector. We don’t need universal health care, we need fewer lawyers suing everybodie’s ass off. There isn’t one program that is being propose that we need. What we all need is some personal responsibilty then we will see change.
So I don’t think anyone here is trying to rain on anyone’s parade it is just hard to put good thought in a succinct manner in just a few words.
So let’s all concentrate on how we have a lot more commonality and less on how we have differences and things will be better for all of us in this fine world we have to share.
Chris
There are no property ownership rights in socialist/communist countries (except for the elites). Obama would give you the “hope and change” to find some other way to survive, not thrive, and there would no longer be real estate investing if his idea of change took place in this greatest country on the planet. God forbid!!
And we have a new development. It seems that John McCain owns 7 houses, which in some sense could make him one of us (RE Investors). NObama owns 1, with an attached lot purchased at a steep discount from his good friend Tony Rezko, a convicted felon and political fixer. Tony was even present at his house closing. Birds of a feather…
Before you all start up with that Tony Rezko crap, let’s not forget about the Keating Five.
Tony Rezko wasn’t a felon when Obama was friends with him. He was just a political supporter that seemed like a good guy. I’m sure every politician can give at least one story about some political supporter or friend that they’ve had to distance themselves from.
You guys are reaching.
Anthony - Rezko wasn’t a CONVICTED felon at the time. Just because he hadn’t yet been convicted didn’t mean he wasn’t a felon.
As Dave says, “Birds of a feather…”
Well I have just been reading all this stuff about racism and such and there is no sense for me going into it because I have my views and Anthony has his and my view don’t count because Anthony must be right and everyone else is wrong. As far as the McCain having 7 houses and such it was Obama that started making a big deal of it. So why shouldn’t we bring up the Obama firend he associates with. Tel me what difference does it make how many houses a guy has? What about John Kerry and the last election and all that he has. I am sure all politicians have nice houses and summer houses and vacation houses and such. How many does Ted Kennedy have? So what!! I want to stand on issues not on how many houses they have. WE all know they are rich beyond our wildest dreams. That is what it takes to become a politician. The ancient Roman senate were rich too. This is nothing new. Why can’t we stick to issues? Why can’t politicians stick to issues? Why do we got to argue more about racism? There will always be prejudices no matter what part of the world you are in. The question is how can we make it better for everyone and move them forward? Government handouts are not the answer. Opportunity and the will to take that opportunity is one of the answers. The old saying teach a man to fish and you can feed him for life applies.
I remember the Keaing Five. One republican and 4 democrats censured for their actions. Bob Bennett ( a democrat) , the special prosecuter on that case, and later Bill Clintons lawyer, admitted on TV a few nights ago that John McCain was the only one that should be exonerated from any wrong doing in the Keating Five. He also said the censure was politically motivated againist John McCain and should not have taken place. That’s Clinton’s lawyer admitting McCain did nothing wrong.
Hell, I own 12 houses and have owned and sold another 82, but all my dealings have been above board. No felons, no sweet deals.
Bill,
I’m guessing that McCain probably didn’t do anything wrong. He did however use his influence to do favors for Charles Keating, which is what most politicians do. He used poor judgement, and was slapped on the hand for it.
Only mentioned it in response to a few people’s comments about “birds of a feather”. People in glass houses don’t throw stones. Why do you think McCain’s camp has never brought up the Rezko scandal?
The Keating 5 have nothing to do with this election. The investigations showed that McCain did nothing improper. Keating broke the law, and was sentenced to prison, but was not dealt with harshly enough, IMO. It’s too bad his assets weren’t seized, too. Rezko as a friend and supporter of NO-bama does have something to do with the election. The gift of cheap land from a person seeking political favors looks corrupt. Conveniently, Rezko’s sentencing was pushed back a month, after the convention. You’re clearly not from Chicago, Anthony. For along time, Rezko has been known as a political fixer. He is NOT just a nice guy helping out a friend.
NO-bama said he didn’t want this election to be about experience, he wanted it to be about judgment. Gotta tell you, Anthony, his judgment is f***ed. William Ayers, Tony Rezko, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the list goes on…), the whole inflated tire idiocy, and his recent fawning over the Chinese infrastructure while their citizens starve and abort baby girls. He holds that up as a standard for our country. Remember, he voted for (one of the few bills he ever voted for or against, 128 times in IL he voted present–a sign of NO BALLS) after-birth abortions. You can have any opinion about abortion you like, but after it’s been born, the baby is no threat to the mother. That’s called infanticide, my friend. We can argue about the time of conception, but after it’s born, it’s here, my man, and it’s a person. He voted to allow doctors to kill them even then. So, Barry NO-bama, let’s talk about your f***ing judgment.
So you think John McCain has all of the experience to lead. Lead us where - to another war! His whole campaign is based on trying to scare us into thinking that we are not going to be safe unless he is in office. He has no more experience than I do in leading a government. Yes, he has been in the Senate for upteen years, but so me his leadership there. Oh, I forgot, he worked across the party aisle to get some things passed. Where’s the leadership? Yes, he has experience - in being in the Senate forever! What’s is wrong with something new! Oh, I know we are all going to drown in more taxes - in case you didn’t know it, there is no middle class; ask McCain who said that \rich\ is $5million or more! Guess the rest of you small-timers (like me) must be poor. And stop trying to insinuate by your rhetoric that Obama is some sort of smoldering terrorist that is going to move us away from the \good ole boys\ club. You are just simply afraid that a man of color may have the intellect and ability to turn us around or at minimum do better than your great Bush has done over the past years. If you think that life will be better under McCain than you better think again!
Vee,
Take your cranky pill today? I understand politics will do that to a person.
I have a question for you why is it that mostly Obama supporters bring up race? It isn’t McCain supporters that keep bringing it up. Are we being all painted as racist?
My next question is what about Biden, what kind of experience or knowledge does he bring? Sound like he has the same as McCain?
Just some questions, for you or anyone else that feels like answering them.
Chris
Oh great!! We already solved the “man of color” thing. Must be someone new to the forum. We’d all like to see a Colin Powell or a Michael Steel or a Condie Rice run for President. Those are qualified people. Shoot, I voted for Alan Keyes twice in primaries. The problem is Obama is not qualified in a single category to run, except he gives good speeches. We only have 2 choices and anyone understanding politics, history and the constitution would know that Obama is not a choice.
BOTTOM LINE: We were asked which candidate would be best for real estate investors. Obama is a socialist….. in a socialist society there is little or no private ownership of real estate……no private ownershhip…..no private real estate investors.
CASE DISMISSED!!!!!!!
Bryan, you wanted me to cite facts. First let me point out that I was being polite, but I will dispense with that since you did not take my advice and do some research. Bryan, pointing to a video you made telling a lie is NOT a cite, it is an example of circular “logic”. Let me give you a cite.
“I’ll eliminate capital gain taxes for small and start-up businesses.” Barack Obama “realtor Magazine” September, 2008. The same statement is on The web site of Barack Obama and was before your video was shown and the first post in this thread was made. Real estate investors are small businesses. Your entire video was wrong, and filled with errors. YOU gave no cites, and said it was not political. Of COURSE it was political. You could not respond to the FACTS I presented that are solid facts from the GAO, the department of Labor, and other federal agencies. The fact that the economy for the ENTIRE 20th century did much better, not a slight amount, but a huge amount better, with a member of the Democratic party as President speaks for itself. You can support whomever you like, but you can’t do it based upon economics.
Again, I ask you to do some research.
Research? I didn’t refer you to my video. I referred you to the video of Obama acknowledging he’d double capital gains taxes despite the harm to the economy. I acknowledge my reference may have been unclear. So in case it’s difficult for you to find, here it is:
Problematic, don’t you think? There he is in the video saying he’d double capital gains taxes with no better justification than “reasons of fairness”. Now I don’t really know if your citation in Realtor Magazine is accurate. I guess we need to determine which Barrack Obama we’ll believe before we can have a debate about his positions, since he clearly isn’t sure of them himself. — Bryan Ellis
Larry,
You state that in the 20th century the economy was better because of a Democrat in office. Well there was a Republican senate and congress during that time and Clinton reaped the benefits of what Ronald Reagan started. It was because of Reaganomics that we got a better econmy
Keith let me define a century for you. It is 100 years. Look it up in the dictionary. As for your point of the Clinton years the Democratic Party had a majority in 1993 and they raised taxes on the upper 5% of tax payers by 3% and cut taxes for the middle class. The republicans screamed, cried and proclaimed it would lead us into not a recession, but a depression larger the the great depression. This was passed without a single republican vote. It lead to the best economy this country has ever seen. And when w came into office the failed policies of reagonomics was tried again with the same results. The rich got richer and everyone else got poorer. The taxes on the rich went down, and the taxes on the bottom 90% went up. So Keith, stop with party spin, look at history.
Bryan,
If you heard that tape correctly Barrack was talking about fairnes. He specificly talked about hedge fund managers who manage to make all of their salary in cap gains instead of regular income. 50 people earned 29 Billion dollars in a year in cap gains. Their clerks paid income taxes at full income rates while those 50 who made an average of $580,000,000.00 a year paid taxes at a rate of 15% on every dollar they made. This IS clearly an issue of fairness and for those people capitol gains SHOULD be doubled.
Two points for which you’ll have no rational response: (1) Did you notice that Obama didn’t say that any laws he passed would limit capital gains increases to those 50 people? He merely used that hedge fund managers as an example (some would say a SMOKESCREEN) so that people would focus their attention on a few mega-rich people rather than the effect on themselves; and (2) “Fairness” isn’t law, and it’s not included in the Constitution anywhere. Fairness has no definition. It’s entirely subjective. And to use “Fairness” - a totally subjective word - as the justification for any law is a perfect example of the incredibly weak intellectual position from which Obama speaks. The man can hardly put two coherent sentences together without reading from a teleprompter, and his “fairness” explanation was clearly an example of “grasping at straws”. — Bryan Ellis
As for checking out my cites, that’s very easy. Look it up. You can easily go to the Obama web site to check to see if that is what he says… eliminate all capital gains taes for small and start-up businesses.
Now for what really bugs me. Since you present yourself as a real estate guru,
I do no such thing. I’m a guy who runs a real estate blog where other people comment on my thoughts. — Bryan Ellis
what you SHOULD have done was check out the statements first, found out they were wrong, and then started a discussion about what would an investor do IF capitol gains doubled. Talk about how to avoid them. Like using a Roth IRA or 1031 exchanges.
I think it makes far more sense to avoid a tax increase to begin with. Don’t you, Larry? And you’re ignoring the “800 lb gorilla in the room”. As I mentioned previously, I don’t know if your citation is accurate, but for the moment I’ll assume it is. The real challenge for you here is that you have a citation where Obama is quoted as saying he won’t raise capital gains taxes. I have a VIDEO where he explicitly says he WILL do so. What does this say about Obama? — Bryan Ellis
You did NOT do that. You wanted a political exchange and you got one… based upon a lie.
There’s the problem Larry. I’ve given you VIDEO DOCUMENTATION of my point, yet you still claim it’s a lie. I think this causes you a real problem when people read our exchange and decide who to believe. — Bryan Ellis
Wow!!! That video ahows Obamas lack of economic sense. Even faced twice with the facts that lowering capital gains increases revenue to the govt. he defended his “raise taxes” position.
Think about this: even if you raise taxes on only the “rich” it always costs the “poor” more money. Companies, small businesses, rich owners don’t really pay the increased tax. It is passed on to the consumer as a price hike in the goods or services they offer.
Another point. The dems know a lower tax rate is good for the country. My economics professor (a democrat, and member of the Chicago FRB) circa 1978, admitted to me in private that tax hikes are used more to control society than they are used to increase revenue. That’s straight out of Karl Marx’s playbook.
If the dems, and Obama, really want fairness in the tax arena they need to get behind abolishing the current tax system and pass a “Fair Tax” or a “Flat Rate” system that takes away the controlling factor they thrive on.
GOOD morning. I would like to tell you about some INTERESTING DATA ON TAXES. this is somthing you should be awre of so you don’t get blind-sided.

Some interesting comments about both candidates here. As for own concerns, I am really tired of the same old mud-slinging contest that goes on with every election. My own preference relates mainly to who has the capability and integrity to lead. I don’t believe McCain or good old Uncle George can even spell the word let alone have any use for it. George Bush has proven to a nation that he is a total fool who will lie about anything and not even try to explain when a room full of third graders could tell when he is playing them or trying to.
I’m sure that if by “The man can hardly put two coherent sentences together without reading from a teleprompter” is supposed to win a debate then George H W Bush and George W Bush lose to Senator Obama in that area, case closed.
It’s really immaterial to argue about that, but even there you’re wrong. There’s no doubt that Bush butchers English grammar, but his comments are nothing if not completely unambiguous. The same can not be said of Barrack Obama, who has no understanding of the difference been plausibility and rationality. Listen to the man speak when he doesn’t have prepared comments. He can not think on his feet at all. It’s really quite entertaining. — Bryan Ellis
Fairness has to do with morals.
Hmmm. Interesting point. So do you care to explain how any system of “morality” allows one person to be more financially punished than another? (This should be good.) — Bryan Ellis
Obviously your parents didn’t do well in teaching you those things.
I’ve noticed that people who lack the intellectual moxy to defend their position will instead attack not just their opponent, but anything related to their opponent. — Bryan Ellis
Your lack of knowledge of the facts and the issues are equaled by your lack of fairness and politeness. There is no smokescreen in saying that someone who makes $580,000,000.00 a year should pay a higher tax rate than his lowest paid clerk.
That’s not the smokescreen. I know this is difficult for you to understand Larry. But the smokescreen is in redirecting everyone’s attention to a group of fewer than 50 people to whom the doubled tax rate will apply, while applying the doubled tax rate to everyone. According to CNBC, approximately 100 million Americans own some sort of capital investments and will be directly effected by Obama’s utterly brainless hope to double the capital gains tax. That’s a lot more than 50 hedge fund managers. That’s the smokescreen. Of course, “smokescreen” was a nice word. More appropriate may be “willful deception”. — Bryan Ellis
If you can’t understand that concept go talk to Warren Buffet. He will explain it. He has offered a reward (of1 million dollars) to ANY CEO of a fortune 500 company that pays a higher tax rate than his lowest paid clerk. No one has stepped forward to accept that reward for several years.
When using rhetoric, it can sometimes be wise to refer to someone of higher credibility (such as Buffett) to bolster the utter lack of credibility of another (Obama). But in this case, you gain no ground. If Warren Buffett was here arguing that Obama was committed to tax cuts, I’d point out all of the same evidence to him. And he would be wrong too. — Bryan Elllis
So in talking about a specific instance you generalized to everything, you ignored his website and everything els Obama has said about capital gains for small businesses. You are spreading lies and fear. You can NOT defend yourself. End of conversation since you can’t talk rationally and you just don’t get it.
Ahhhh, but that’s where you’re wrong my well-intentioned amigo. You’ve put yourself in the position of needing to prove that I’ve lied. And since there’s video proof of my claim, that’s very difficult for you to do. And I certainly CAN defend myself - but there’s no need to do so. The facts as clearly displayed on this page in the voice of Obama himself make the necessary points. — Bryan Ellis
Michael, thanks for pointing that out. We need to see comparisons like that. I still don’t think some people get it and probably never will. As for Larry, you say in Obama’s example that 50 people made an average of 580,000,000.00 and paid only 15% tax on that money. If my calculations are correct that means they collectively paid 87,000,000.00 in taxes. If they all made the same cut ,each person would gross 11,600,000.00. That would be 1,740,000.00 per person in taxes. Just how much do you think more do you think is “Fair” Why would you risk your money in hedge funds and not want to keep what you earned off of that investment. Keep in mind that you could just as easily lose all that money too. I don’t get why everyone gets so jealous if someone makes money and then wants to just take it from them. The point here would be moot if “The Fair Tax” were already in place. We would all be paying our Fair Share so to speak. If any of you on this blog has not read The Fair Tax Books I urge you to do so. Just to see for yourselves if such a system would work. I tend to think it would. Before you say anything ,No I haven’t read them myself but would like too. But I really can’t afford to buy them. I might be able to if I could bring home my Whole Paycheck.lol Just a thought.
Greg and others,
If I understand the Obama example correctly,”50 people made an average of 580,000,000.00 and paid only 15% tax on that money.” This means 50 people each made $580,000,000.00 and that is $87,000,000.00 in taxes each.
This is more than enough for one person to pay. Now Obama paid 33% in 2005 and then only 28% in 2006 and I bet even less in 2007. Now these are lower than I pay as a single male. Check it out.
http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2008/03/obama-releases.html
So where is the love Obama? Why is he paying a lower rate than I am and many people I know? Where is the example of putting his money where his mouth is?
I am also wondering why he cares so little for his family. I am one of 13 children and we would never let one of our family live like he does his brother.
This is a person that surrounds himself with biggots and criminals and then lies about it. Not since I watched that liar Clinton say ” I did not have sex with that woman”, have I heard such a bunch of crap. Goes to a church run by a hateful biggotted man and claims he never heard any of those words and then he throws the guy under the bus. Where is that integrity?
Hangs with Ayes, just another domestic terroist that should be in prison, and says, “well he is a good guy now”.
If you have terrorist and biggots for friends then I suspect you don’t have much in the way of anything I want.
For years most of my friends were lawyers, FBI and mercenaries. Now while I didn’t care for all of what they did at times (mostly the lawyers). They were people with a lot of integrity and could always be counted on to do the right thing and did. I didn’t hang with any biggots, couldn’t stand their crap, I didn’t hang with terrorist, most of us thought of them as targets, and we wouldn’t talk to anyone that was a known criminal. So why does he have so many of these undesirable elements in his life?
So these are some facts, not mudslinging, not guesses just cold hard facts. So what now?
No use using facts, figures, logic or reason when talking to “JoeBama” supporters. It’s all emotion with them.
As far as capability, Obama has never owned, run or managed anything so how can he run this country. He showed his integrity when he voted against the “Child Protection Act” in Illinois, 3 times, then told reporters it was because of the wording. Funny about that, he was on the comittee that wrote the words he was against.
Guess what I was right about his 2007 taxes, he only paid 26%. So if this is a guy that wants to lead why isn’t he leading by example?

He wants others to pay more yet he wants to pay less. What is that about?
Chris
Chris I was not figuring 50 people at 87,000,000.00 each. That was 87,000,000.00 between them. They each would pay 1,740,000.00 in taxes. That is still quite enough in taxes. Don’t you think?
Greg,
Way too much in taxes even.
All others,
What is this crap from the government and some of these brainwashed liberals that we have to pay more all the time in taxes? Who’s money is it anyhow? It is mine, yours and ours, not the government’s, not some leach that wants to penalize those of us that work hard to make more for ourselves and our families.
No one has a right to take my money, no one has a right to tell me to give my money to the government so they can give it to some lazy ass that does’t want to do for themselves and will just waste it.
Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Biden, Clintons, Kennedy, etc… can all go to hell! They haven’t done one damn thing to earn the money and have no right to take my property be it money or otherwise and give to the less fortunate, less fortunate my ass.
Roosevelt was a bastard that did more to damage this country than anything else and social security is a bunch of crap that can not sustain itself and they knew that from the start. Fact for all of you it is in the archives and you can read it for yourself. Do the research instead of whining about how damn hard you have been oppressed, deprived, etc… If you don’t know how to find out the cold hard facts then query this, why are you making statements you have no way of really backing up other than you were told it by someone else?
I know people that belive in Bigfoot even though the guy who invented him stated it was a hoax on his deathbed, fact! I can introduce you to people that still believe the earth is flat! Even though most mariner knew it was round and had no fear of falling off the edge, fact!!
So get some real information, learn how to do the research, find out what really happens, quit listening to the left telling us we have to support everyone they think we should. It is all done on my back and your back and I for one have plenty to take care of without some knothead like Obama, a person that believes in paying less and less as a percentage in taxes each year, a person that wants me to take care of all the people he thinks I should while ignoring his own brother, telling me what and who to take care of. I can support those I feel are deserving just fine by helping out my church and the Salvation Army. They both do a whole lot better job than the fore mentioned crooks.
Look at Clinton, in his first two years we had Somalia, Bosnia, Ben Lauden training camps, first World Trade Center bombing and what did that idiot do about it, NOTHING. He was too busy getting some girl to pay attention to what was going on. His economic policy was predicated on stripping the Military to nothing. Do you really think all the planning and setup was done in the very short time between Bush’s inauguration and the destruction of the Twin Towers? Of course not that was all done on Clinton’s watch and the lack of military and intelligence was also done on Clinton’s watch, fact!
Look it up!!
So liberals stop looking for a hand out form me, I am sick of it. Those of you that think taxing the most wealthy is the answer, take a class in economics and learn how it really works.
If we want things to be better then we need to get rid of all the stupid liberals in congress, that have the lowest approval rating ever, fact. They control the purse strings and don’t have a clue what they are doing.
Chris
Well said Chris. I keep hearing the liberals telling us about how the big oil profits are up and blaming the republicans on the gas prices yet wants us to limit off shore drilling and keep us from drilling in Anwar. They tell us that how the right gives tax breaks to the rich. The tax laws are there for everyone to use. I am actually tired of both parties partisianship and no one wants to do what is right for this country to move forward. I do agree with Chris that I am tired of the government taking more of my money and giving handouts to people who refuse to fend for themselves. The libs also don’t want to talk about how the government puts $.22 of tax on a gallon of gas for doing nothing. McCain wanted to put a temporary stop to that tax for people.
Let’s face it, our political system has been broke for years and neither side will give in and help the people in this country. When the rich control the law making side of this country, and I mean white, black, brown and whoever else is elected, they will make laws that help them and their cronies. Why do you think that we don’t have a flat tax law or term limits for senators? That woudl hurt them. I mean both sides not just libs. I am a conservative and am not afraid to say it. I don’t like the democratic platform and what they stand for.
I am also tired of some of the people on this blog saying we won’t vote for Obama because we are afraid of putting a black man in office. Stop already. It is not about his race it is about what his views are. I happened to vote for Alan Keyes twice and if he was the nominee he wold have my vote. Give me a black man that I think would do a great job and I would vote for him. It is not Obama.
Let’s face it, no matter how we present our side here, no one is going to change another ones mind on this blog. It has gotten to name calling, race and whatever else it led to. That is what politics do. I am sure Bryan knew that when he opened this up it would revert to this. I respect your choice of candidate and the way you are going to vote. Please respect mine without name calling. You can state all the facts and numbers you want and I can find some that support mine. It won’t change a vote that we believe in. I am thankful though for a country that I can state my views and vote for who I want without having to be afraid of stating those views. We all should be thankful for that.
well stated Keith.
Chris
Every time I listen to Obama I am reminded why I stopped working for the DNC. What a bunch of idiots and shame on me for ever supporting them through my efforts.
What is it about most politicians and especially liberals that make them immune to the cold hard facts? Why is it every time they are presented with an absolute fact they say “well maybe that happened every time before but this time it won’t happen that way”?
I just don’t get it and sure don’t understand people whom only want to talk out of both sides of their face.
I am getting to like McCain more and more!! I don’t always agree with him but at least he has some ethics and moral character. Obama doesn’t have either and one more question. What is his wife so damn angry about? She hasn’t had it any rougher than many in this country but she is an angry woman, why?
Chris
How can a family that makes over 3,000,000.00 a yr. (Obama and his wife) or anyone for that matter, relate to most of us on this blog. I believe we are the working poor in this country. At least I am. I go to work 5 days a week, I gross maybe $50,000 more or less. My wife works for only 9 months out of the yr. (ASK-After School Program) My wife grosses maybe $10,000. And we can’t pay our bills on time. Yes I know we have to many bills. I also have three step children. My point is how can these people actually relate to us. I know Barak doesn’t make that kind of money being a Senator, but he makes enough. Quite frankly all of congress makes enough and yet they vote themselves a raise every chance they get. They have a separate retirement plan than we do, they tell us we have to live on social security which they must not contribute to. Because if they did at their salaries and speaking fees and whatever else they do, I don’t think Social Security would be going broke. These guys need to be on the same plans the average American is on. Or the average American needs to be on their’s We have to get IRA’S, 401K’s, Pension Plans that may not be there when we retire. Why shouldn’t they? I still don’t understand why Bush’s suggestion that we take 2% of what they take for social security and let us put in our own personnel retirement accounts didn’t pass. That’s the only way I could save for retirement. Let me say this though, I’m not jealous that people make more money than I do but I am envyous. So don’t get the wrong impression. I actually listened to Obama’s Acceptance speech last night. I also heard Joe Biden’s speech. They were both great speeches and they cover up who they are very well. Everything they said seemed to make sense. Of course they are acting as if conservatives don’t care about helping people, don’t care about getting off of fossil fuels, don’t care about the environment or Global Warming. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. I think conservatives just have a different approach to the same problems. I can’t wait to hear McCain’s speech at the RNC Convention. It will also be interesting to hear from the VP choice. I hope McCain blows Obama out of the water. It will make my choice that much more simple.
Greg and others,
I understand your frustration and it saddens me because our government also understands it. They want it, they need it, they create as much of it as they can!!
Now before anyone goes off of the deep end let us look at some facts of history. Yes, history the great teacher.
All governments are started to further someone’s agenda. Some agendas are more noble than others yet all of them eventually fail. It has always been because they lost sight of their original purpose. They all did this by weakening their original creeds, be they a creed of well being or a creed of conquest.
Ours was started to give us all more free choice than what we had under the King. Freedom to worship as we choose, freedom to not be taxed excessively, freedom to protect ourselves from the government. The problem all governments have is the same, the people working for the government. Be they the politicians or the buzzing bees under them.
As soon as the government gets started it starts going to hell in a hand basket. They want to survive above all else and unlike those of us the private sector, they have the power to sustain themselves.
They do this by making themselves bigger and bigger and bigger. By taking more and more freedom from all of us so we can not be a threat to their way of life. As time goes on the disconnect becomes larger and larger until we are faced with what we have now.
As individuals we can quickly come to some rational decisions about what our society needs. We need good schools, the government states it takes a study and more money to give us good schools. Not true go to any private school and look at their cost per student, makes you kind of sick seeing how we are lied to.
We need better health care and they are the only ones who can provide it. Better roads, better air, better this and better that, yet tell me one program running well or at a good cost. None exist because of one thing and one thing only. They have no accountablity!!
Now the powers that be say, “well you can vote us out”. The answer is maybe and then sometimes not at all. You certainly have to bear with them for a long time to find out how much truth they actually had in their speeches. In the mean time they pass laws making it even harder to find out what they are doing, even harder to speak out against them, even more depressing to vote for anything.
The government officials work very hard to disinterest us in actually voting. The amount of time devouted to stacking the deck against the populus is frightening, most behind closed doors by people you wouldn’t want your children or loved ones anywhere near.
If any of the govenment people really wanted to make our country stronger, better and our country an even happier place to be, the spending would go down, entitlements would become a thing of the past and everyone would be treated the same, private and government both. As you can see that is not going to happen.
I only see more class warfare talk taking place, more division between government employees and private employees and more talk of they need to take care of us, because we don’t know how.
Words are cheap, actions are strong and I see nothing about real change except making government bigger. As it becomes more, we become less, just something to feed the machine.
Chris
Well said Chris. I have been preaching this growing government concept for 30 years to friends, family and anyone who will listen. Unfortunately most are too lazy or to apathetic to care. As I said before, most people only look at the recent past and not the history of our government or the history of the parties. If you go back to 1913 and come forward you will see the socialist trend of the Democrats whilch will be our downfall.
No power on earth, no war or any other nation poses a bigger threat to this country than the Liberals in the Democratic party.
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
Well said Chris and I 2nd what Bill said also. We are in decline as a nation from both parties. The last good Dem in my book was JFK which was more moderate than any Dem today. We forget that LBJ took social security out of the private funds where it was doing well, and put it in general funds to help pay for Vietnam. I mentioned before that no nation has withstood two competing cultures. History proves that. We are now becoming two cultures with the hispanics wanting us to learn spanish and our government catering to the illegals because they want votes. I am not against anyone coming here wanting a better life. Just do it legally and learn our language. This is the United States of America wher our language is English. I see all these protestors saying the illegals have rights when Sheriff Joe goes out. He is doing his job in arresting people breaking the law. We have politicians saying he is wrong in doing his job and we need to leave these illegals alone. Why so they can start taking over our country like they are now.
We need to take back our country before it is too late if it already isn’t. The dems will lead us down the road to destruction sooner if they get in. We need a leader who will stop catering to all these other countries and start putting the U.S. first. If we don’t who knows how long we have left.
Ron Paul.
Small government, anti-intervention warfare, let states decide their own social issues.
You can all waste your votes, I’m being American and voting for the guy I agree with.
Ron Paul does have a lot of good points going for him. I’m probably a Libertarian at heart myself. But, any vote that is not cast to keep Obama out of the whiteHouse, is a wasted vote.
I was disgusted by most of the comments that were made on this post. My nausea has subsided but in the end, I feel embarrassed to be associated with real estate investors if the comments made here represents how most real estate investors think. In regards to many of the racist comments made, if you grew up in a country/environment where your teachers, doctors, and government leaders look like you then you have no right whatsoever to speak ill of those who did not have that privilege.
You couldn’t be more incorrect. Rights are God-given and affirmed by law. In the context of government, we all have the right to say anything we want, with the sole exception of threats to the President. It might bother you that people say things contrary to your experience, but that does not mean that they have no right do so. — Bryan Ellis
One other point: It appears to me you’re basing your entire argument against racism on the premise of racism. By suggesting it is a “privilege” to grow up in an environment where teachers, doctors and government leaders look like you, you are inherently suggesting that people who didn’t have that experience would be better off if they did. That’s still racism, just in a different direction. Food for thought. — Bryan Ellis
Kalimah,
Bold words that don’t refer to anything except your own prejiduce. It would be interesting to have something to understand where you are coming from.
I see very few racist comments in these posts. If you are disgusted that is your privilege in this country, it would seem that you come from a very repressed environment.
As for having others that look like me I guess you didn’t grow up in this country. Unless you mean most of my peers when I grew up with had one head, two arms and two legs. Well even that doesn’t really work as many of my peers didn’t have two arms or two legs. That what happens when you grow up in a farm community.
So clue us in or guit make such nasty statements with no foundation in fact.
Chris
If you read all the posts, you will see the racism came from the liberal side. They started the racism on this forum, they continued the racism even when rebuked by the other side and will always form their opinions from a racial predudiced perspective. It’s not just the real estate investors who do this, it’s society in general. The left thrives on racism, sexism, and LIBERALISM which promotes discention. The discention divides this country and will be our eventual downfall.
DIVIDED WE FALL, which is the eventual outcome of Liberal Socialistic Politics.
