Normally, real estate investors get to decide who they’ll vote for based on issues that are only peripherally related to the real estate business. But this year it’s different. The economy is on shaky ground, and it’s largely the result of the subprime crisis.
There’s been an aggressive attempt in the media to suggest that this race is already practically over, but I don’t believe it. But this page isn’t about what I think, but what you think. So I have two requests for you:
- Vote in the poll below (it’s totally anonymous)
- Tell us why you’ve made your selection in the comments area below (this is optional, but highly encouraged)
Note - Unless this discussion goes way off the deep end, I’m going to do my very best to stay out of it and let all of you discuss this among yourselves, other than the very first comment below which is mine. So, let ‘er rip:
Please, share with everyone why you support your chosen candidate in the space below. Thanks so much!

I support John McCain. As an investor and entrepreneur, it is my undeniable objective to achieve overwhelming financial success, and Barack Obama has publicly stated he believes he should “spread the wealth around” rather than allow those who are successful to use their own earnings as they see fit. I believe that the reality is that he doesn’t actually care about the middle class and the poor, but that he simply understands that he can buy their votes by promising to punish those who he classifies as “wealthy”. Further, Barack Obama has a very clear connection to and is a financial supporter of ACORN, the organization that is in business primarily to create fraudulent voter registrations. His association with terrorists like William Ayers and haters of America like Jeremiah Wright are questionable at best and are not the type of associations for a President of the United States. I disagree with John McCain on many significant issues, including his campaign finance reform positions and the notion that it’s unreasonable to have a “litmus test” for Supreme Court nominees. Nevertheless, he is a true American hero and his judgment and commitment to America are not questionable, as is the case for Barack Obama. Frankly, Obama is dangerously inexperienced and his utter inability to think on the spot about significant issues is scary.
There are other candidates.I do not plan to vote for either of these 2 candidates. I would prefer to write-in Ron Paul. However, Colorado does not allow write-ins for presidential candidates, so Bob Barr gets my vote.
DITTO EVERY WORD BRYAN WROTE.
Kelly, I urge you to reconsider. McCain needs every vote to keep Nobama from taking up residence in the White House. A vote for McCain is a vote against Nobama. A vote for Barr is a vote for Nobama.
Time for “Reaganomics” not Nobama spending and taxation. History
reflects every time capital gains tax goes up job creation goes
down.
Dennis Miller said it best ( on the Tonight Show ), “McCain gave me 5 years in a prison for the US and me; I can give the man 4 years.” I disagree with McCain on some issues but I feel he’s the better choice versus the very left socialist Obama. Regardless of his affiliations, what he says, and what his plans are, his voting record is enough for me to not vote for him. He’s a better speaker so hopefully the wool isn’t pulled over too many people’s eyes. Now, forgetting even who’s running for the parties, I never care for a single party to control everything. For those Democrats reading, yes, I think Bush with the Republican Congress ( earlier in his reign ) was a bad thing. It’s too easy to get the votes or have the Congress agree to something after-the-fact. Now, more specifically, Senator Government as President and the so far left Pelosi has the implication of very liberal policies and even further Socialist actions. No thanks.
I agree with Catlyn,
You must vote for one or the other or it will be a sure win for obama, I personally do not like any of them, But because I have been upper middle class for so long, and want to reach the top as shorly as possible, I feel that Obama is going to pull me back instead of allowing me to get everything I have worked so hard for to this point. I am sorry about those people who do not spend time to better themselves and keep stuggling without putting effort to change, I can’t do anything about that, they need to put the effot in as well, I feel everyone has the same opportunities to change as I. The republican give me that opportunity to keep going in the right direction. I don’t feel I should have to pay for others with no initiative. I feel sorry for them. I feel they need to be educated to do the same. I don’t know about all of you but I’m tired of paying for everyone else to recieve all the benifits of my hard labor
Just my thought John Mccain for me
I believe Obama is going to change things for the better which is what we need after 8 years of a ridiculous Bush administration. Obama has the vision and insight to improve the overall health of our country. He may limit my financial gain some in real estate investing but I believe he will do more for Americans as a whole. That is the true bottom line for our children and the future.
As for the mission and purpose of ACORN, it is a grassroots advocacy group that organizes on a variety of issues focused on improving the quality of life and providing a political voice for people. I have a good friend who worked for them for several years and have first hand knowledge of their work. I admire those who give of themselves in working with organizations like ACORN.
Whoever is elected will not solve all the problems our nation faces. Each of us need to take careful stock in our part to move our country forward. Whoever you are voting for and whoever becomes our next president, we will still need to be active and doing our parts however small or insignificant we believe them to be for the overall betterment of our communities. It’s our future, think positively and act accordingly.
All you have to do is listen to Barack Obama and you have no choice but to vote for John McCain to keep the USA the land of opportunity and the land of the free.
Barack Obama broadcast in his speeches that he will “spread the wealth around”. This is socialism and socialism has never worked.
See for yourself if socialism works. Go to a state run hospital and see what kind of medical attention you get.
Although I do not have a solid horse in this race, if I had to choose now it would be through the process of elimination. Socialistic idealism hasn’t worked anywhere in the world to date and clicking your heals and wishing certain things were so only worked in the movie ” The Wizard of Oz”. I will not vote Obama to give it a try in the United States of America the next 4 years.
My second reason is that, although neither candidate speaks as if they have ever read the Constitution, McCain comes closer to keeping within the guidelines.
Third, and this is only my opinion, when the government does less it screws up less, therefore if both houses of the congress are controlled by one party then the executive branch should go to the opposing party.
I am voting for McCain because I believe Obama will lead this country into a socialist country. I believe I should have the choice of who i give my money to instead of the government spreading the wealth around as Obama wants to do. It should not be the governments decision to do that. If you want to have that type of government move to the soviet union or cuba. If you work for your money you should be in control of it. I believe bad things happen to people and if you need assistance then we should be there for them but we have gotten away from that and instead there has been years of welfare given out without any incentive to move off of that and get jobs. So I believe in the party that holds more of my values and the way I want the country to go and so that would mean my vote is for McCain.
Think of it this way…
Which plane would you get on?
The pilot with many years experience, OR…
The pilot with no experience.
I’m going with the REAL pilot, McCain.
I vote for McCain because I do not want to go into socialism.
So much talk about the middle class family? I am not middle class. But they are always the ones that give to the poor and donate to charity. Look around, they always have big hearts, that is where their moneys goes when they make more than some.
The Democrats have already been the big time majority in our government with Speaker of the House Nancy. Look how they made it impossible to drill for oil in the U.S. and not use all of our technology in saving energy all of these years. They fought it !
Democrats have and are already changing Real Estate investing into the dumps when it was helping the economy. From help relief, to profits to spending.
I remember when Bush just got elected. I was saying to people. Sure going to be hard for Bush to fix 8 years of Clintons financial mistakes that he did to America. You never hear any of that from the past, of what Bush had to face, along with tradegies. But they never got rid of the hardcore Democrat Congress that had been in charge all of these years. Remember when Al Gore wanted America to not farm anymore and buy our food from other countries? You know, just like we do oil.
Look we need to keep our money here, that is the only way we can try to get out of this huge debt.
Instead of buying us Health Care & College with no money. They should just find out WHY our Health Care and the College costs are so much higher than the rest of the world. Like they do the Power Utilities for each state. There it wouldn’t cost us billions.
Thanks Everyone and vote for the lessor government.
Just think what we would be really facing, if the Democrat Al Gore or John Kerry would of been President, now ?
Lets make this count.
McCain is the easy choice. Obama said it himself - he is for spreading the wealth around. His tax plan turns the IRS into a welfare agency.
I see some will be voting for a write-in. Does no one know about the Electoral College? In general elections, it is the Electoral vote that gives the win. You people that are voting write-ins are making it a easy win ffor Barrak Hussain Obama to glide into the o

ffice of Presidency. The winner must have at least 270 E.votes.
Ok, I tried to sit this one out, but this is getting ridiculous. Are you people for real, or are you just fabricating reasons to just support McCain and not Obama?
I’m not even sure where to begin, but let’s start with Obama’s “spread the wealth around” comment that seems to have so many of you upset. First of all, I don’t think he was trying to say that he’s going to take from the rich and give to the poor. What he was saying was that there are people in this country that are really hurting right now. It would be ridiculous to tax them. If you make $250k a year, you’re not hurting. At least you shouldn’t be. You’re certainly not rich by any means, but you’re in pretty decent shape. By taxing this very small group of Americans, their lifestyles won’t be affected one tiny bit.
Patricia, I cannot believe your selfish comments. There are people in this country that can’t pay their mortgage, can’t buy gas, have gotten laid off from work, can’t pay their bills, and are just in really bad shape. And you have the nerve to say that it’s their fault? Based on everything that has happened economically in this country over the past year, that is a truly idiotic statement. You should be ashamed of yourself. You know, not everyone wants to be rich or an investor. Some people just want a decent job, a decent home and a decent school for their kids to attend. There is nothing wrong with that. But you seem to think that they have no “initiative”, because they aren’t as ambitious as you. I seriously doubt that Obama’s plan will stop you from reaching the level of status that you’re shooting for, but I could really care less.
I said on this website months ago, that it was my duty as an American and Christian to help those that are less fortunate than myself. That’s all Obama is asking: if you make more than $250k a year, can you pitch in a little to help some people through this crisis? It’s called patriotism. You all hail John McCain as a hero, because he didn’t leave the POW camp ahead of other POWs. Well now here is your turn to be patriotic. Will you help the less fortunate, or will you leave them behind?
Also, regardless of what McCain says, he’s going to raise your taxes as well. Where do you think all of this money is going to come from? In the last debate, McCain himself said that the $5k that he is going to “give” you in his health care plan, will be taxed. What the hell is that? IT’S A TAX PEOPLE! WAKE THE HELL UP! The difference between McCain and Obama is that Obama is going to tax those that can afford to be taxed, McCain is going to tax those that can LEAST afford to be taxed.
Now let’s talk about McCain himself. I actually like the guy. Sort of. But you seriously have to wonder about his judgement in picking Sarah Palin as a running mate. Did he really want to win that badly? Obviously so. I know a lot of people like Palin, and I can kind of understand why. But in no way, shape or form is she capable of being President of this country. Considering that she’s not very well educated or well traveled, she has definitely been an over-achiever. But I think we all know that she’s reached her limit. The interviews that she has given have shown that she is extremely limited in her knowledge of just about everything. Bill Maher calls her a moron. I won’t go that far. But she has not shown any proof that she has the intellect or the background to deal with the serious issues that a President will face. I don’t know about you, but that alone is a major reason to not vote for McCain.
I would like to think that Obama has this election in the bag, but I hesitate. To quote David Gergen from CNN, “America still has a problem with race. Many Americans will have a problem voting for a Black man”. If you recall, I said this too a couple of months ago. I think this one will come down to the wire, and will be very interesting to the end.
I see some will be voting for a write-in. Does no one know about the Electoral College? In general elections, it is the Electoral vote that gives the win. You people that are voting write-ins are making it a easy win ffor Barrak Hussain Obama to glide into the
office of Presidency. The winner must have at least 270 E.votes.

Barack Obama told “Joe the Plumber” he didn’t mind Joe becoming successful but he, Obama, thinks tha everyone else should share in that success or have the ability to have the success Joe the Plumber has. Thus Sen. Obama indicated he is For spreading the wealth around, which means income redistributed, which means take from those who produce and give to those that do not.
Isn’t that the very same philosophy we are witnessing with the current housing industry? Mortgages were given to people who had “bruised” credit, to be nice about it, and really didn’t have the ability to pay.
Then we have the rise of terrorism. Barack Obama has to many connections with the very people that hate us. He is being held in high esteem by countries that do business with Iran and is also held in high esteem by other nations that hate Israel.
John McCain is my choice for President of the United States. He has proven his loyalty to the Constitution. He knows what it means to defend the nation and is the only candidate that has.
i’m just plain scared of what the United States will look like if Obama becomes president. I cant believe he has made it this far. at a gathering I asked a woman who she was voting for she said obama i asked her why she said she actually didnt know but obama promised changes. i asked her what is he going to change she said she didnt know …i hope the rest of the country isnt putting their heads in the sand like that. i just cant explain how uneasy i feel about this election…terrified that Obama has any say our nation will turn into something Americans just dont want but so many people dont want to continue down the same path so they choose obama. I would rather have it the same than __ucked up beyond recognition. my vote is for McCain. it is ok if you dont publish this one at least someone read it.thanks for letting me have my 2cents. Obama becomes president we might not have that priviledge anymore.
Bryan for a person that say’s he’s not trying to influence and it’s not about what you think, is a joke, because if that was so then you wouldn’t express your opinion, would let your readers come to there own conclusion.
Ben - what gave you the impression that I have ceded the right to express my own opinion? I said I’d say what I thought and then let the discussion happen, excepting only “off the deep end” comments. (!) — Bryan Ellis
We all know that when you say you don’t like either one us with any since know that you are on the right, so just stop it, it is better to tell the truth than to lie, isn’t that what we want in our president.
Ben, Ben, Ben. You really should be careful with accusations of deceit. I have NEVER denied - nor will I ever - that I am a rock-ribbed conservative to the core of me. Nor have I ever supported John McCain as my first choice. But you can be damn sure I support him now, given the alternative. — Bryan Ellis
And with that said bryan and any body else on the panel, that calls them selfs patriotic, how many people have your registered to vote lately hum if you can be honest tell us. Do you even know how the process is done, how many campaigns have any of you guys ran huh, let me know please let us all know if you can tell the truth. I can bet you most likely A BIG FAT ZERO.
Oh you got me there: I’ve never registered a single person to vote. Not like ACORN, who has entered hundreds of thousands of registrations, most of which are fraudulent. My humble (but entirely correct) opinion is that a person who does not have the initiative to register themselves probably shouldn’t vote. After all, there is no “right to vote” under the U.S. Constitution. — Bryan Ellis
but you call yourself patriotic huh what a joke. I have a business and the people that have businesses know that we get way more write offs that a person with a w-2 so stop crying about how much money you pay back to taxes because me and a lot of other people that have businesses get money back based on our write offs. We all know if you are w-2 you get very little right offs may be 4-5 at the most and a business owner can all most right off everything to off set there income that is why it is so hard for a business owner to get a real estate loan if they have a business because they show a lot of expenses to off set there taxes so it looks like the business owner made less than what they really did, but a person that has a w-2 can’t do that. that is why a good accountant will tell a w-2 person to start some sort of business to off set there taxes, so you guys need to stop this madness about paying all these taxes because you guys are not tell the whole story, so the next time you hear about any one crying about how much they pay in taxes, if they are a business owner please people don’t feel sorry for them, because at the end of the day they will have there over 400 write offs to off set there income, if you don’t believe me call your local taxes guy and ask them.
You’re right - there’s infinitely more tax flexibility for business owners than for normal employees. That’s why it’s wonderful that we all have the right to start a business. And also why it’s such a travesty that Obama thinks it’s a good idea to tax small businesses. — Bryan Ellis
Obama is a committed socialist/Marixist by his own writings. Show me one time he has been accused of hanging out with middle of the road people, as opposed to the hateful people like Wright, Aryes, etc… or organizations that support voter fraud like ACORN. (Any company that has a recurring problem over years supports that problem or they would have found a way to change it.)
His so called “change” is straight crap, just look at who he chose as V.P., Biden is as intrenched in partisanship and status quo as they could possibly come.
He wants to once again gut the military, just like Clinton did and shows no respect for our country or the men and women actively defending it. Look at how well the disregard of our security here and abroad worked under Clinton. I don’t want us to go down that road again.
His idea of spreading the wealth around and making a nanny state out of this country is just plain disgusting. Show me one time in any country’s history where a nanny state has fostered freedom or growth. One can not find one! You will find failed states however, is that what we want?
Both of these guys want to spend like there is no tommorrow and congress wants to spend even faster than that. What the hell is the matter with these people?
There isn’t one person in any of the parties worthy of holding office this year. If you listen to them they run from the lunatic fringe, like Ron Paul and Barr to total idiots like Obama. A person obviously invested in only himself, working at class warfare more blatantly than anyone I can think of since George Wallace and Malcom X. Now that is fine company to be in isn’t it?
So I chose McCain, not because I think his policies are great but because he wants to do the least damage to our country of the current crop of canidates. At least he understands the importance of a strong military, wish he could understand the importance of a strong border too. He also has a better grasp of what it takes to lessen the reccesion we are in unlike Obama who only wants to make it worse.
Just remember for politicians “poor people = power”. This is a very scary equation but an equation used to overthrow governments for centuries.
So I vote McCain.
For the first time in my life I am voting for a Republican for President. I don’t agree with everything John McCain stands for, but I do feel I can trust him and that he will say what he believes — even if I don’t like what he says. Obama is a great speaker, but he still hasn’t explained how he plans to cut taxes and also provide all the health care, education, etc etc that he promises. I do not trust Obama — and it has nothing to do with his race. I think he is putting on a great act, but I have no idea what is really going on in his head. I am afraid the act is going to fool a lot of voters though.
Absolutely John McCain. Mitt Romney was my preference, but he didn’t make it. Even if you consider Obama personally benign [I don't] it is those who will be on his team that scare me even more. If we go down the road of socialism and a one party government it will take decades to recover. Don’t waste your vote on a write-in or 3rd party candidate. Stand up and make a clear decision! Oh and wouldn’t you rather have Sarah than Joe?!
Economic policies and philosophies aside I can’t, just absolutely can’t believe I’m seeing smart people like those on this list repeating that hateful crap about Obama being associated with terrorists. How to do you spell “Swiftwater”? Do you not have a clue that this kind of talk is unpatriotic smearing than comes from people for whom winning is more important than truth? Someone is channeling the win-at-all-costs-damn-the Constitution Karl Rove.
Vote for whom you like and for whose policies you like but give up this disgusting crap about Obama being associated with terrorists.
Play the Six Degrees of Freedom and you are associated with terrorsts, too.
Wow, Anthony, too much TV!
Here’s my take. It is offered as an opinion.
Being kind hearted, as your you painted your biography, certainly is notable and to commended.
To offer one’s values to be painted on others is selfish! To give as a gift is a joy. To be forced to give is socialism, not patriotism!
To force value upon an individual based upon opinion in the news via select news clips and other shorts without having more facts? Well, I will leave that conclusion to others.
Belief that government can have the right to go beyond it’s duty in the constitution for the “general welfare of its citizens” and begin to classify citizens based upon criteria of their choosing because it is or can be turned into an emotional topic has been the downturn of many a country. I choose not to go there!
Race is, from what I have been hearing, a topic coming from the Democrat or liberal side of things. As always, issues should be forefront and if the decision is based upon issues and one’s own values the decision should not be one of blame.
Bush’s approval ratings are low. Around the mid 20’s I think I saw. Congress’ ratings for the last 2 years (Democrat controlled and with Mr. Obama) are in the mid teens. The pool of candidates, with the exception of Mrs. Palin, are from the lesser. Anthony, I would hope you are not getting your news from Mr. Maher. That, my friend, would be disastrous.
I totally agree that this individual who is claiming one week that he does not associate with william ayers and jeremiah (wrong) and turn around the next week and claim otherwise is a total hypocrite. He has pulled the wool over the eyes of many but hopefully the true American will stand up and claim their country back from this liberal and his colleagues in congress that have been destroying this country economically for the past few years. I do blame Bush for some of this mess but remember that we have a liberal congress that has been in power for the last two years and they have a total reign on this country. So far it has not been good. Of course the liberal media has helped him with his campaign overshadowing his associations with these evil people that want to bring America down. But my friend, we will prevail.
I totally with agree with Anthony’s comment. Bryan I thought you were smarter than this to believe the lies you are agreeing with about Obama. You are quoting what you you’ve read not what you know. It seems the majority of republicans would rather vote for McCain based on the negativity they read and want to believe about Obama even if the lies are not true. And most of you call yourselves Christians! What a joke! You sound like the people that always want to throw the first stone as if you are so righteous.
If we are talking about guilt by association then I say make John McCain explain his association with George Bush and what he would do differently. McCain’s association with George Bush has far more hurt this country than Obama’s with Ayers, Wright or ACORN. By the way did any of you see the video from Feb. 2006 of McCain at an event praising the work ACORN does. Wow, how soon we forget.
McCain have all of you fooled. I live in Arizona and know first hand that McCain would be 4 more years of George Bush economics. I voted for George Bush on the last election and I sure won’t make that mistake again and vote for McCain, knowing that he would do basicly the same thing that Bush would do if he had a chance to be president again.
A lot of you mention McCain’s record, so based just on that alone of voting more than 90% with a failed president is enough evidence of what we would get for voting for John McCain.
I also was fooled like most of you until he did another stupid thing of chosing Sarah Palin. His wishful thinking of winning the women vote by chosing Sarah Palin was just plain stupid. That was the last of many straws that turned me off from him.
I took a poll in our office of 15. Twelve for Obama and 1 for McCain and 2 undecided.
Obama/Biden - Yes! McBush/Phalin - Hell No!
I’m not too excited over either of them. My vote will go to McCain. The alternative, (Obama) is actually frightening– his far left policies, even if just a few of them were to get implemented, would be a disaster for those of us who don’t believe certain people are “entitled” to socialist forms of medical care, education and other core areas of Obama’s spread the wealth ideologies.
One of America’s oldest standards is that if you have worked hard to acquire knowledge, and have otherwise built your business to a level where you are in a position to reap well-earned rewards, you should not be penalized by government intrusion into your legitimate business and lifestyle improvement efforts, all of which Obama, if elected will seek to be the intruder–taxation, education, medical care, and off the wall foreign policy from left wing advisors. He will destroy the American Dream as we know it.
The bottom line is that many of those who vote for Obama will be doing so as a protest vote against Bush and the harm he has done through both act and omission. McCain will be the innocent victim of that on the votes for Obama.
Anthony,
Only bigot on the blog is you. Where in the hell do you come off calling Palin an over acheiver? What the hell have you done?
She has done an incredible job as govenor of Alaska. I have several friends that work and live in Alaska and they all speak highly of her. Even the ones that have felt some of her cost cutting actions.
She has more total talent and judgement than Biden, Obama, Reid, Pelosi put together. The attacks on her are motivated by her being nice to look at, popular in her state and willing to state her convictions. Something that hate mongers like Bill Maher are applauded for and she is villified for. What kind of crap is that?
She has more executive experience than all of the rest of the crop put together. Senators have none that is the nature of their jobs and for Obama to say running his campaign gives him executive experience show just how totally out of touch he is with reality.
So Anthony, quit acting like a bigot. I am sure in your heart you are a decent man but when we take our cues from hate mongers like Maher, it is hard to be rational all the time.
It is a trap listening to people whom only can villify others to get attention. This goes for any that speak hatefully of others, I don’t care which party they belong to or support. Why do you think McCain stated that Obama isn’t some one to fear nor some one to hate? He knows that hate mongering is wrong. He has experienced it first hand in Hanoi. Where is Obama’s stand on that? I have found him to be notably silent.
Palin brought a beautiful baby into this world that many would have killed. This is the kind of person I like, that I want to be one of the stewards of this great country. Agree or disagree with her is everyone’s right but to do all these awful things to her and her family is just wrong. Could anyone get away with doing the same to Hillary or Pelosi? We all know that is a very strong NO! It is a nasty double standard isn’t it?
Chris
It’s a shame that so many of you are so shortsighted. Integrating socialist concepts into the way America is run is not embracing socialism or communism. It is still how it’s implemented that matters. One of the many facets that makes our country great is that we borrow language, concepts and philosophies from around the world, and meld them to our own.
Establishing a base of state sponsored medical insurance is a bad thing? You can still get insured privately, you can still see your favorite doctor. More people paying a small amount to ensure that everyone can get medical care - and not from their local E.R. - which gets passed onto your insurance premium if you’re currently lucky enough to be insured.
I’m not yet making over 250K - maybe that will happen in the next 90 days ;0) … but I really don’t have a problem paying more for earning more - especially since the first 250K is taxed at the lower rate. And the argument that the rich already get taxed at, what 35%, and that it will go up? If any of you are truly paying 35% in taxes right now, after deductions, shelters and loopholes, you probably aren’t much of an investor. If everyone was really paying what they should owe in taxes, we probably could have a flat tax at a much lower rate. The bottom line is, I don’t think anyone is getting it quite right anyway.
I know you all work so darn hard for all your money, but lots of people are working just as hard or harder, some endangering their health and lives for almost nothing. And yet these are the people that we expect to buy our products and spend their money on our services.
I don’t buy the idea that the rich will be charitable in such a way that is organized enough to prioritize and help the people who really need it is a false notion. And what percent are just greedy and don’t even give a dime?
The belief that everyone has the same opportunities, intelligence and education is also untrue. There are adults and kids that don’t know how to read, never finished school or got into drugs. I think society and parents let them down. You think they can just put their mind to it and work hard and they’ll change? I think there are a lot of people out there abusing our welfare system, don’t get me wrong, but that’s because the system is not working, the business model is not working. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea - just poorly executed.
I’m for a government business that works correctly, and I think our current one does not - in every aspect. From militarily to financial to welfare it has been corrupted and disfigured by lobbyists and lawyers.
I think that as a businessman, I am always looking to improve my company and how it runs, to see it’s problems or deficiencies and to fix them. And as an American I think our government needs the same. It’s Obama for me.
I’m not happy with either candidate.
However, given what I’ve heard out of each of their mouths (and comparing to their voting records), I’m voting for McCain.
Obama seems to be operating in a world of “should be” while McCain appears to be firmly grounding in the world of “is”.

My vote is for McCain. I hate the bias of the media making Obama out to be so eloquent, and McCain as a heel. But eloquence and looks doesn’t make someone qualified to be president. It’s character that matters to me. The media can try to brush aside all of Obama’s ‘questionable’ decisions and alliances, but one by one they add up to paint a picture of what the man is really about.
Someone questioned Obama’s lack of experience in an earlier post. This is a valid question and one I consider as well. I wonder who would really be running the country if he’s elected - his advisors? the Democratic party? Congress? Our foreign enemies? Muslims? The people who’ve helped him get into office? When he is advised by advisors, good decision making is important - and he has not been shown to make good decisions based on the alliances he’s had in the past.
Finally, the main thing I keep hearing from Obama fans is that they want change. They are so blinded by their desperation for change in their own lives that they’re willing to hitch their vote on the person touting the word ‘change’ the loudest. (It’s the oldest political strategy in the book.) Unfortunately, the ‘change’ Obama proposes isn’t going to ‘transform’ our lives for the better. If Obama gets into office, when taxes are raised and small businesses are taxed - they’ll all have lots of change alright - No jobs. No home. No money.
Neither candidate is perfect that’s for sure. But I value character and experience. And in my book, Obama has neither.
I am conserveative first so I must vote my convictions so the only choice (although a poor one is McCain) One must vote on facts not emotions and when the facts are laid out side by side the choice is obvious. Liberials (I know some good democrats)like Anthony cannot stand of facts so they resort to personal attacks and get loud to drown out the other person (when we were children we would cover our ears and say na na na or something like until the other person shut up) whether it is TV Radio Or written it is all the same. Liberals will not acknoweledge the facts. What brought us here? Start with Bill Clinton He and other liberals started it by changing the rules for Freddie And Fannie so loans had to be made to people who could not qualify for a conventional loan. Things went pretty well until the gas prices started to rise and George told the people we are going to turn corn into fuel(stupid stupid) that with higher fuel prices sent food prices through the roof. Now instead of having the money to pay the mortgage it is going to pay these additional cost. Do we eat and go to work or pay the mortgage? Now the liberals (George included) are going to force us to make their mortgage payments for them. If obama is elected we will become another Third World country. Why? under his rule the ones that can will move offshore (look at bush beer, Germany has some of the lowest corporate tax in the world along with Ireland) Look for a mass exodus. Then who will pay? If you haven’t been to a third world go before the election to get a glimpse of what we will have to loo foward. I have and it is not a pretty picture. Vote conservative My and my grandchild would like to remain FREE
Integrating socialist concepts into the way America is run is not embracing socialism or communism?
Integrating high fat butter into your diet is not embracing cholesterol, either.
Think of it as sort of a Byproduct. hmmmmmm.
Let me take a wild guess, totally out of the blue. Are some of these posts the democrat talking points?
I thought this forum was to be entrepreneurs acting like entrpreneurs… you know, thinking for ourselves!
** Integrating socialist concepts into the way America is run is not embracing socialism or communism. **
Matt, please…become informed. Look at which countries are socialist and ask yourself if you want our country to be like them.
Cuba: Cuba is one of the most socialist nations, as it has a mostly state-run economy, universal healthcare, government-paid education at all levels, and a number of of social programs. It does not have a stock exchange.
North Korea: The same is true of North Korea, which has an almost entirely state-run economy, as well as the same social programs mentioned for Cuba. Like Cuba, North Korea does not have a stock exchange.
Venezuela: Economy has more private ownership, but the government social programs are quite extensive and the foreign policy is very left-wing. Cuban doctors and teachers have been brought to Venezuela to provide some medical and educational services.
China: A substantial part of the economy is still state-run, although there are not as many social programs as there once were and universal healthcare has been eliminated. Still has a socialist-type foreign policy, for the most part.
Vietnam: A significant part of the economy is state-run. Close ties with Cuba, Venezuela, and Belarus.
Syria: Although not commonly referred to as socialist in the West, Syria has a mostly state-run economy and universal healthcare, along with a left-wing foreign policy.
Belarus: Much of the Belarussian economy is state-run and some government social programs are available. Belarus has close ties with Venezuela, China, and other socialist countries.
Sweden: Mostly private industry, but many well-funded government social programs are offered. Universal healthcare and government-provided education at all levels is made available.
The ONLY reason, for example, that Sweden can embrace a socialist economic model is because the United States and the majority of producer nations are staunchly capitalistic. Like a parasite, Sweden has always been heavily dependent on “host” nations who work their asses off to provide goods to Sweden.

Socialist countries survive, but they NEVER thrive. Even China is moving toward the capitalist model.

I do not like either candidate but must vote for McCain as I believe that Sen Obama is a closet Socialist and Moslem. While I have nothing against non radical moslems, I believe that Business Owners should support someone who obviously wants to further the liberal democratic agenda. In addition, Sen Obama has no experience and has a horible voting record. I pray he does not get elected, but I am afraid the uneducated masses have bought into his rhetoric.
Caitlyn,
I am well informed. And you seem to not understand what integration means. Nor are you understanding that everything is not either or.
It is taking the things that work and removing the things that don’t. I’m not saying socialism is the answer - I don’t want America to be like them - that doesn’t mean that capitalism is working so fantastic either. I think there is no balance in either.
As far as dependency on other nations go, I think we’re well on our way; with oil, goods and services. Everything effects everything. We’re not living in a vacuum.
First off I would like to say that I am a strong and proud McCain supporter and I am pretty passionate about that in these troubled economic times. That being said I will probably ruffle a few feathers but here goes.
All I can say is that if you are voting for Barack Obama you are trully naive and could not possibly know Barack Obama well enough to make an educated and informed decision on our next leader. You can rationalize what he “says” he will do. You can rationalize his “associations” and his flat out lies about them. Charisma only goes so far. Regardless of what McCain said about not being worried about Obama as our president I say BS! You should be very worried about anyone becoming the leader of this great nation who tries to bring in socialist policy and has serious character gaps.
Obama’s tax plan says that 95% of americans will not see a tax increase. Here are the facts:
33% of americans pay NO taxes! That’s 43 million Americans!
So we are restributing wealth to 43 million Americans who pay NO taxes in the first place. 140 billion dollars redistributed (the largest in history) to PEOPLE THAT PAY NO TAXES!!!! That is WELFARE!! Open your eyes liberals and see things for what they really are.
If you are on this forum becasue you either are a real estate investor or aspire to be and are planning to vote for Barack Obama then you must not plan on being successful or you like giving your hard earnded money to the poor people that have every opportunity that we have to change their lives around, work hard, educate themselves, network, and get off the pity potty.
I am a former Marine Scout Sniper and am extremely proud of this great nation and it’s history and am a true patriot! I had the pleasure to experience first hand what it was like to serve under President Clinton and let me tell you, our Military was at it’s weakest point in history.
John McCain founded a “classified” military school that I attended while I was serving. Guess what it was? How to survive as a POW. Let’s just say it was very “real”. I had the great honor to meet McCain at my graduation. I know the complete story of his military career and everything he went through at the Hanoi Hilton.
He was brutally beaten every day for almost 5 years people!! Why? Because he took on the leadership role of all the POW’s being held at the camp. He was their commanding officer. That is why he was beat every day! He kept the spirits up of all his men and stood up for them the whole time he was there. He created a structure to effectively live long and short term as a POW without being killed or releasing “too much” classified information. He created secret codes that are still used today for POW’s to communicate between themselves. Anyway, if you heard the story in detail and saw the pictures it would bring tears to your eyes. Look at the humillity of this man. Look at the experience, the honor, the courage to stand up for whatever is right even in the face of opposition.
Obama does what is best for the moment. He disassociates himself at the most convenient times. He HAS NO EXPERIENCE. He has the most liberal views of any presidential nominee EVER. He is creating the largest redistribution of wealth in American history!
This is the most important election in the history of this great nation and if you are really going to make the claim that you are not voting because you liked another candidate that isn’t even the nominee! Give me a break! That’s an excuse. Ron Paul was a Republican (barely) that had great economic policy but it stopped about there. Ron Paul had a similar following that Obama did but on the Republican side. It was popular to like Ron Paul. Did anyone watch the debates? Are you serious?! Bush speaks better than him.
Please, if you are undecided, go to each candidates web page and read their platforms. Please, if you vote in any election, vote in this one. Don’t be stubborn and not vote just because your candidate of choice was not the nominee.
Anthony, life is about accountability whether it is your fault or not. A true patriot falls off his horse, dusts himself off, and finds his way (or hers). Stop this pity party, it will only make things worse. We have been in this same situation 6 times in the history of this nation and we pulled through it every time. Through hard work, determination, and the desire to succeed.
As far as health care goes. You’ve been watching too much Michael Moore. Go ask any Canadian how their healthcare system is and if they like it. Go ask any heart transplant candidate in Canada and ask them where they will be going to get it done.
Never the less, there is no doubt in my mind that John McCain will be our next President. Did anyone watch the Boston Red Sox last night? That is a great representation of McCain and his position in the polls right now. Who came out on top? The team that was better, played harder and made less mistakes under pressure. Why, because they have much experience in the same position, they’ve been there before!
Bryan, you are trully brave to start a blog post like this and I appreciate it.
God Bless America! Support our troops regardless of what your stance is!
To your Freedom and Success,
Tyler Musson
Wow Ben! Spoken like a true liberal! It’s a disease spreading across this country like a cancer.
My vote is M C C A I N..
OBAMA want’s to take from the rich to give to the poor ?? What happens when the rich go broke trying to TAKE CARE of the poor ??
PROFIT IS NOT A DIRTY WORD ….
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 43 million
Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000
States won by: Gore: 19; Bush: 29
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2; Bush: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Gore’s territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…”
My vote is for John mcCain…a man of integrity, honor, strength and a true American hero. A man who has fought the fight and will fight for investors, entrepreneurs and business people like ourselves who create jobs, pay higher taxes, pour cash into the economy and support capitalism and truly live the American dream!…Obama, is mysterious, cryptic and has came out of nowhere as a senator who has former relationships with nefarious individuals who are anti-American, anti-Constitution and have very radical and provacative views that are socialistic and against everything that our nation stands for politically and socially. I’m also tired of the media portraying Obama as the great savior for all democrats/liberals and the middle class who will take from the rich and give to the poor…A modern day Robin Hood..I think not…I also viewed the recent debates, and Obama may be a great Debater however, he is no man of real character, dignity, substance and wisdom…These are the virtues that make up real men like John McCain…who is an open book…and his story reads like an inspirational novel from start to finish…Do not be fooled by Obama’s outer persona, charisma, articulation and affability. Remember this …As in water, face reflects face…So the heart of man reflects man…McCain has heart unlike Obama, due to previous aforementioned connections and the unwillingness to answer the tough questions under scrutiny and in open forum.
I concur with Mr. Ellis and other investors that the best man for the job is the man with the greatest fortitude, experience, capabilities and character…that man is John McCain.
A vote for McCain is a vote for 4 more years of George Bush! I don’t see how anyone can vote for 4 more years of George Bush! And he and all of you want to call him a maverick! A maverick doesn’t follow a failed leader most of the time and try and convince you he won’t do the same thing. How stupid does he think people are?
Speaking of real estate, since McCain is against government spending, why does he want to purchase all the bad loans with government money? Any smart real estate investor would not pay full value when they can buy at a discount, especially now!
Another question, why are most of you associating Barack as a muslim when he is not. If you just need an excuse to not vote for him be honest and don’t use the lies that the republican party uses to scare people.
Yesterday they made automatic phone calls to thousands of people to try and scare them that this man is a terrorist. Yes, the republican party. I guess they are doing this in observance of Halloween:-)
Here’s the facts - you decide!
Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples) McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes.
If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6%
How will this affect you?
If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama become president.
The experts predict that higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $31,250
OBAMA
(reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married making 60K - tax $16,800
Married making 75K - tax $21,000
Married making 125K - tax $38,750
Under Obama your taxes will more than double!
How does this affect you?
No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.
These, plus the propensity towards baby killing, are some of the reasons that most upstanding Americans will vote against Obama!
Hmmm… one other thing: McCain spent over 5 years as a POW to fight and defend our freedom in America and Obama can’t even put his hand over his heart to during our national anthem.
Chris,
What about my prior statements make me a bigot? Do you know what a bigot is? Evidently not, or you wouldn’t be throwing that term around so loosely. Did I hit too close to home for you?
On Sarah Palin, you’re kidding right? You can actually say with a straight face that you think she’s qualified to run this country? That’s truly insane. She was mayor of what has been described as a “horrible little town in Alaska”, that has the population of some churches that I have visited. She was governor of a state that has a population about the size of Boise, ID. I’m sorry, but I’m not impressed. I think it’s pretty safe to say that she never would or could have been elected governor of any other state in this country.
As far as her having more talent than the Democrats that you named, what talents would those be? She doesn’t appear to have any that I can see. Unless you count those that she exhibited in the beauty pageants that she competed in. I don’t think those will help her run the country.
Let’s just look at the facts: she attended four different colleges in six years, until she finally managed to obtain a degree; her husband was a member of an extremist political party that wanted Alaska to succeed from the Union (if that’s not anti-American, I don’t know what is); her husband also has no degree and a DUI under his belt (that doesn’t make him a bad person, but do you want him in the White House?); she had no idea what the Bush Doctrine was; she couldn’t name a single newspaper or magazine that she read; she’s had very little exposure to the world outside of Alaska. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point.
Now lets look at Obama: has degrees from Columbia University and Harvard Law School; was President of the Harvard Law Review; was a community organizer and civil rights attorney; taught law at the University of Chicago; served three terms in the Illinois Senate; currently serving his first term in the US Senate; his wife has degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law School; she practiced law and also taught at the University of Chicago. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point.
Look, we’ve had a not-so-intelligent President for the last eight years. Isn’t it about time that we put someone in office that has the intelligence to make proper decisions? I’m not saying that Obama should be President because he’s smarter than the Republican candidates (which he is, by the way), but Sarah Palin simply isn’t smart enough to be President. Many conservative Repubicans are starting to say the same things. Many of them were even calling for her to drop out the race at one point. An McCain has stated on several occasions that he’s also not that smart, and graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Doesn’t excellence mean anything anymore in this country?
bryan sounds like you are up set my friend?
Not at all - why do you say that? — Bryan Ellis
Well the reason i ask you the question about have you ever registered anyone or any other person that have registered anyone, they would realize that when ever a registration drive is conducted it is done buy independent contractors are you aware of this, so for you or any person to talk about what acorn is doing you really need to know the process first because sometimes we can speak and not know what the hell is going on like you and any body else that talk on the subject of acorn, i would tell you to get the facts right 1st my friend.
The mountain of federal indictments and multitudes of people coming forward to say that ACORN paid them for multiple registrations seems sufficient evidence to me. It also appears sufficient for the FBI to begin new investigations in a plethora of states. — Bryan Ellis
you do know what a independent contractor is don’t you? so with that being said if you look at a voters card, you will find out that who ever registers you has to mail that card in and that is a fact, and with that said, then you have to really look to see who is really at fault my friend, so watch the mud slinging.
Being an independent contractor is fully immaterial to this discussion. The indictments and convictions that are a matter of record suggest ACORN is at fault. If that’s mud slinging, consider me a slinger. — Bryan Ellis
Get the facts right and buy the way I’m one of those independents that everybody is talking about.
Don’t take pride in being an “independent”. That just means you’re either indecisive or lacking conviction. — Bryan Ellis
“I support John McCain. As an investor and entrepreneur, it is my undeniable objective to achieve overwhelming financial success, and Barack Obama has publicly stated he believes he should “spread the wealth around” rather than allow those who are successful to use their own earnings as they see fit.” Ok bryan I think john mccain said that I think alot people saw those debates and barrack didn’t say that, He said that he wanted to have tax cuts for the middle class, get it right my friend he didn’t say he wanted to spread the wealth around.
Wrong. You don’t think that Obama said he wants to “spread the wealth around”? Here’s my proof: Barack Obama on video saying he wants to “spread the wealth around”
(Ben - what gave you the impression that I have ceded the right to express my own opinion? I said I’d say what I thought and then let the discussion happen, excepting only “off the deep end” comments) (There’s been an aggressive attempt in the media to suggest that this race is already practically over, but I don’t believe it. But this page isn’t about what I think, but what you think.) Hum, interesting didn’t you say it’s not about what you think, if that is what you wrote then you should have keep it that way, instead of giving your opinion. Folks as you can see when he said he gave his opinion anyway well I see why people want a change.
I suggest you learn to read, Ben. — Bryan Ellis
I come to learn over the years people can be very nasty and en sensitive and I think you know what I mean so good luck in the election because mccain is going to need it.
Thanks for your entertaining comments. — Bryan Ellis
Hay Tony, John McCain is not George Bush…
Tell me what has the Democrat Congress under Pelosi done to bring about change in their 2 years as the majority, other than change the menu at the lunch room ?? She promised to work with all parties for the good of the country to bring down energy costs, etc ( funny gas at the pump went up almost $2.00 a gallon ) OH that’s right she turned off the lights & turned off the speakers & went home (that saved some energy) when Republicans wanted to stay in Washington to pass an energy bill..
As for OBAMA on the economy what kind of change will we see with his advisers being Frank Raines, Tim Howard, Jim Johnson Etc. These are the people who brought about the Fannie Mae mess. Does Barney Frank & Chris Dodd inspire your confidence in their handling of those institutions that they had oversight over ??
It seems to me the Republican party saw & learned by their spending mistakes in congress & now are working to change all the Democrat type spending that they embraced in their time as a majority in congress.
Some people learn from their mistakes the Democrats keep wanting to bring back the same mistaken policies.. Look out for a second Carter term, by far our worst President.. Remember 16% interest???
Didn’t McCain state that Washington changed him! Yes, it changed him into George Bush. So the question should not be who is Obama but who is John McCain? Even he doesn’t know. So who are you voting for?
And John, I checked your numbers and they come from McCain’s trumped web site. Why do you have to lie to persuade people to see somthing your way. Remember lies is what got us in a war were over 4,000 Americans have lost their lives. We don’t need more lies!
You all seem to have it figured out, very interesting? It seems to me that who ever gets elected has enough on their plate already to sort through. And they (the politians) want to add more “change”?? Does anybody really understand these two men, (the two options we have left), one of these two are left to steer this ship. Come on these two guys will promise you & I the world and it fenced in - it all depends upon how you want your world to look, that’s who you will vote for, isn’t it? Robert K. said it pretty plainly, “it’s not about politics - it’s about finances & neither of these candidates understand finances.” God help us
to all of you on this blog, don’t waste your time talking to the republicans, they have all the answers. Never ever will take responsibility for any wrong doing, keep in mind there has to be a little something wrong with the way they think any way because for one group of people to watch one News station and to think that they are right 100% of the time there is a problem can we say “CULT”
ANY WAYS ok bryan keep up the good work my friend LOL stick with real estate ok
That’s very “independent” of you, Ben. — Bryan Ellis
Tyler Musson, THANK YOU for your service to our country!
** It is taking the things that work and removing the things that don’t. **
I don’t think Barack Hussein Obama is the right person to be conducting experiments on the United States of America.
Mike, McCain wants to be the Clean-up Crew, that’s all. He’s not going to change anything else–certainly not the fabric of this country, as Nobama wants to do.
Those who do not care about the additional taxes that Obama proposes. Take them all and all I can say is good luck.
In addition, I still have to worry about all the uprising State & County taxes along with the federal. Barely any money left to do anything. (most goes to welfare)
Also, what is sad that almost all the Big News Media is owned by the priviledged Democrats. They get to pound only one side and not both parties. No wonder McCain had to defend his campaign for once on the debate.
Glad to see more of you people worried about the future as I am.
Ben I hear you. Bryan should have kept his opinion to himself. I didn’t know there was a hidding agenda for him to try and push his conservative ideas and opinions on others.
You folks are funny, thinking that I should keep quiet on my own blog. I don’t have a hidden agenda. I’m interested in having conservative leadership in this country. Nothing hidden about that. Remember: This blog isn’t a democracy, it’s a benevolent dictatorship
— Bryan Ellis
Anthony,
Take your head out of your A$$. I wasn’t going to write anything because I get a kick out of reading this stuff, until I read yours. The people who had there cars repossessed ,their houses foreclosed on, lost their jobs and had there spouses leave them because of it, needed a voice here too. And I’m it, all this has happened to ME and don’t preach I’m a christian too.I’s my faith that’s keeping me sane. Why on earth would I want you, Caitlyn, Bryan or anyone else here to pay for something that was completely my fault . I SIGNED THE DOCS. I SPENT MORE THAN I WAS MAKING. I BORROWED THE MONEY AND NOW I AM PAYING THE PRICE. I FAILED AND ITS BECAUSE OF GUYS LIKE JOHN McCAIN AND TYLER MUSSON THAT FOUGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY, THAT I CAN DO THIS. I WANT A HAND UP NOT A HAND OUT. THAT MEANS SHOW A MAN HOW TO FISH NOT FEED HIM FISH SO HE CAN COME BACK TOMORROW AND ASK FOR MORE. Bryan runs this site to give us free R.E. info. I’ve learned enough here to sound like I know what I’m doing and hooked up with some good R.E. people and my future is looking bright. And your telling me that when I start making some money you want to tax me. Does that even sound right to you? No Thanks Nobama. Broke as I am, I don’t want anyone’s “SPREAD” wealth. Let the wealthy do what they want with what they earned. Just like I want to do when I get there. I’m voting McCain. I wish these stinking politicians would stop treating the people of these United States like children and let us take responsibility like we should. You may be surprised what we can accomplish individually and as a nation. And Kip, yes I’m worried about our future as a nation, it’s a good thing God is in control.
McCain gets my vote, I do have a hierarchy of issues and that being the sanctity of life. Obama is too radical and scary on this issue alone. My three main criteria’s for judging a candidate are competent, character and conviction. Obama falls short on all, not a clue on economics and especially on his socialistic views, example, spreading the wealth, I do not believe in redistribution of wealth, let me ask you this, do you want to live on a Government plantation? I don’t .Be informed before you vote, thank you.
If you vote for Obama, you vote for change you don’t want to see! Obama tells everyone what they what to hear. It’s not W’s fault the cards blew down after Billie built the house of cards.
Obama wants to give keep the public more dependant on the government.
Our founding fathers are turning in their graves at the thought of this socialist running for President!!
McCain must win or your lives will change like you never expected!
To Bryan and all of you who say you are not voting for Obama because he will take this country into “socialism” and that McCain would be a better president of this country. I must say that you are really ignorant of the true facts about McCain and the vile and corrupt people who he really represents.
The neoCON RePUGliCONS are the most evil and bigoted traitors this country has ever had to put up with in government. McCain the so called “Maveric” politician has voted in agreement with the Bush Gangsters on dangerous and corrupt legislation over 90% of the time. Most of the laws they have proposed or passed over the last 8 years of nightmares has favored the top 2% elite billionairs in the US. Your point that Obama wants to “spread the wealth” is so lacking in factual understanding of the tax system and the reality of the middle class.
Only about 5% of the people in the US earn over $250,000 a year. That means over 95% of the people would get a well deserved break on their taxes while the elite has declared war on the rest of us for decades and gotten away with huge theft and mass murder of Americans and Iraqis who never did anything to the US.
I bet you still think Saddam sent the terrorists to attack the US. Even Bush says Saddam had nothing to do with 9-11. McCain flipflops whenever he sees the need to get what he wants. His “Maveric” schtick is contrived for political perception.
McCain is also a very mentally unstable man who has a well deserved reputation for attacking verbally and with physical “in your face” space intimidation anyone who disagrees with his position on anything. People who have known him personally for years find him quite unpredictable and likely to make rash knee-jerk decisions when he gets mad. Is that the kind of person you want to have the nuke missile buttons?
Why don’t you all admit you are really closet racist biggots who can’t stand that a non-white man has made it as far as he has in spite of so many hateful people in this country. I am a 57 year old white man who reads and researches a wide range of news and information sources to form my opinions.
I bet most of you McCain supporters get most of your ‘news from the Fox channel and/or the ridiculous nazi like rantings on talk radio programs like Rush Limpballs and Mikey Savage.
Oh there is so much more to say but I will end this by suggesting you read the book by Vincent Bugliosi The Prosecution of George Bush for Murder and Naomi Wolf’s new book The End of America to see that this country is already operating much like a facist police state. Brought to you by 30 years of DemoCRAPS and RepuliCONS!
They are both traitors and two sides of the same phony fiat dollar.
A McCain administration would be like Bush on Geritol and to think that a woman like Sara Palin would be a heartbeat from the presidency should make any rational thinking person want to puke!
It’s certainly encouraging that the overwhelming majority here have done their homework. The other posters are entertaining, although the same old alternative-reality talking points are starting to cause drowsiness.
We know who Senator McCain is, his history, his character, and what he stands for.
We also know a great deal about Obama, his history, his associates and influences, his poor judgment, and most of all, as he has made very clear, what he intends to do and what he thinks is “Fair”. Unfortunately, his version of “fair” comes out of the radical liberal socialist playbook. Sorry, Mr. Obama, you’ve apparently mistaken the USA for some other country. Yet another lapse of judgment. You want to “Change” our system to Socialism? Not on my watch.
Is the honorable Senator McCain the best possible American for the job? Probably not. Is he the only acceptable choice in the running? Forget all the hype and irrelevant side-topics that have been used to distract us from the real issues. It’s the 11th Hour, and the only real question on the table right now isn’t whether “Joe The Plumber” owes some back taxes (what the hell does that have to do with the question he asked Obama? If only the media had spent such energy vetting Obama)…
…the real question is, do you prefer higher taxes that will be used to “spread the wealth” in a “fair” socialistic fashion, (pay attention Libs, there will be a serious quiz later, on Nov. 4th), or, would you prefer to retain our Free-Enterprise system of Capitalism?
Hey Peter, you say you are a Christian, like so many republicans, I guess. Well don’t Christians suppose to act like Christ. I guess if the kid at one of Jesus rallys was a republican he would not have given up his 2 piece fish dinner and 5 loaves of bread. He would have said to Jesus and everyone else, NO! go get your own. Thank God he wasn’t a selfish like some folks on this blog.
Why didn’t Jesus say to everyone at his rally why didn’t all of you bring your own food. No, Jesus even thought it was a good idea to “spread the wealth”. When he did spread the wealth everybody was able to be blessed. Hey Peter I guess that thing about spreading the wealth only worked back in the Bible days.
This is one of those “off the deep end moments”, so I’ll have to step in now. This post is a perfect example of how liberalism has replaced rationality with plausibility. The above story sounds really good, and it appears to give some justification for the “spread the wealth” argument. But there’s a major flaw in the premise of this argument. Tony’s premise is that Jesus’ proclivity towards asking someone to share their property is akin to Obama’s objective for us all to pay higher taxes, and that the little boy’s willingness to share his loaves and fish are akin to the willingness that Tony thinks we should all have to pay more taxes.
Wrong. There are some significant differences here. For one, Jesus wasn’t running a rally, he was preaching a sermon for salvation of souls, not for acquisition of votes. Second, the boy was asked to help, not forced to do so at the threat of imprisonment. Third, this was a one-time event, not a requirement that the boy give up his loaves and fishes every time he had them. Fourth, Jesus and his disciples were a private group, doing good works among the public - they were NOT part of the government. Fifth and finally - Jesus actually IS the Messiah while Barack Hussein Obama only thinks he is. — Bryan Ellis
Ben, you say the republicans never take responsibility for their actions ! Need I remind you what party makes their members step down if they screw-up & what party circled the wagons around Jefferson Clinton, 95k in his freezer, still in office, Berger stuffed his pants with classified docs. Chris Dodd & Barnie Frank should resign or at least be investigated for their roll in Fannie Mae. The reason nothing is being done is they can’t find a Republican to blame… The Democrat party & the liberals all give a dirty Democrat a pass or make excuses for them or bury it on page 10..
…VOTE NObama…. at least the republicans police their own…
…It’s MCCAIN PALIN FOR ME !! I sometime wish they would get down & dirty like the Democrats do…But REPUBLICANS have more CLASS…
JOE THE PLUMBER HAS HAD MORE VETTING THAN OBAMA. Where is the Acorn investigation,?? Ayers, Wright association investigation ?? Tony Resco ??
Obama has only been in Washington 4 years, 2 of those years running for president..Has NEVER made any Executive decisions…Voted present most of his political life….Can not think for him self needs a script & his handlers to tell him what to do!!!
SARA PALIN has more REAL EXPERIENCE THEN Obama..His plan for education in Chicago FAILED after throwing some 50 MILLION at it…
Is this what you want ??? more BAD IDEAS & PLANS & A WASTE OF OUR TAX DOLLARS…The let the GOVERNMENT TAKE CARE OF YOU Democrat Party !!
Lee, you say Republicans get their talking points from FOX NEWS, well if the others would give both sides we might go back to the other stations..I would be FOR the Fairness Doctrine if it included the major networks & newspapers..but Pelosi & LEBERAL DEMOCRATES only wants to stop talk radio…. the only place to get the NEWS about BOTH SIDES…
They DO NOT try to slant the story toward the LIBERAL SIDE OR BURY IT OR MAKE EXCUSES for DEMOCRATS !!
Like I said before, don’t waste your time talking to a republican because they are always right, remember they watch fair and balance News Fox, How could they ever be wrong, and don’t use the word racism oh No, Not them they could never admit that, you know I tell you what it would better just to admit some times and least we can get that out of the way, don’t get me wrong all republicans are not that way but i will tell you alot of them are, You Republicans are just a spin off of the old south Dixiecrates, if you bryan even know the history behind your own party, probably not oh well
It’s curious to me how easy it is for you to assume ignorance on the part of others, such as your suggestion that I have no knowledge of the history of my party. Here’s what you should know, Ben: Your party makes the same assumptions about you. They assume that you will not be intelligent enough to see past the feel-good smokescreen created by concepts like “spread the wealth around” and “soak the rich”. They assume you’re too stupid to understand that higher taxes cut into economic productivity. They revel in the fact that you don’t observe the present or the past with regards to the consistently negative effect of creeping socialism on a society. And for far too many people, the ignorance that the Democrats hope for is entirely evident.
God help us. — Bryan Ellis
Whoo-hooo, Bryan! So well put!
Finally…FINALLY!…McCain is calling Obama’s game plan what it is: SOCIALISM! In case anyone hasn’t noticed, the United States is a capitalistic economy and may it ever be! I wouldn’t be busting my butt to acquire real estate if I thought that $250,000/year was “wealth.” Sheesh.
Hey Ben why are you so angry? Your anger (which seems to be intense)spills out through your words. I probably have the inclination to be republican & I have through the years made some bad choices but have learned from them & moved on. Oh - I suppose I could blame someone else but what good does that do? If I could ask a question: Why do so many people feel like they are “entitled” to someone else’s money, someone else’s hard work? Lawmakers have created a monster by saying - You are “entitled to” have what others have worked for. Hey look, people don’t sue people who don’t have anything, try getting a lawyer to go after someone who has nothing….good luck. $$$$$$$
Who’s talking racism? Obama is half white - just because the dominant gene has its way - which one of us has the choice, blue eyes, brown eyes, blond hair, etc? Come on his mother was caucasuan, raised by his grandmother who was caucasuan, let’s stop using racism as a smoke screen, who cares what color an individual is?? I mean really, come on how shallow? All Bryan did was raise a question - “Who is your choice”
Obama for Pres., No more Bushanomics. Great comments Anthony
lol–any information on the copy of Obama’s birth certificate ?? or was that a rumor? supposedly it was a forged copy? one of the rules to become president is to be born in this country.
Bryan thanks for trying to give us your conservative point of view on Jesus’s intent, but you don’t have to impress us simple minded folks with such BIG words. Do you really believe the Bible really espouse conservative philosophies? If so I’m about to burst your bubble. Grab a seat, a pen and take notes….
Ahhh yes. I’ve been eager for such a comment as this. Here’s how I’ll handle this: I’ll respond specifically to your first few (foolish) points specifically, and then I’ll tell you why you’re simply blowing smoke.. — Bryan Ellis
Let us briefly run through the politics of the religious right, just so the comparison will be fresh in your memory. Christian conservatives believe firmly in God, country and family. Self-sufficiency and rugged individualism are highly esteemed qualities; people should pull themselves up their own bootstraps. Becoming rich is a keen goal and almost universally admired. Taxes are seen as a curse. Social programs for the poor are a waste of tax-payers’ money, and the sort of people on those programs (mostly blacks) are lazy and given to crime. As for criminals, they should feel the full force of the law. And that goes for international criminals as well… a nation should deal with its enemies from a position of strength, and should never be afraid to let them feel the full force of its military might.
Interesting. It’s very easy to make an argument when you start from a flawed premise. You actually have three severely flawed premises:
* That you understand Christian conservative beliefs (clearly false - examples: we don’t see taxes as a curse, nor do we harbor any negative feelings towards people using social programs - whether black or not. This is insulting to millions of Christians - including millions of black Christians.)
* That this discussion has anything to do with religion. Clearly you’re unable to debate the notion of Presidential selection on the basis of issues. If I were you, I would change the subject too
* That your citations of Scripture are accurate and inclusive of proper context.
So frankly, nothing else you’ve written here is worthwhile. However, to amuse myself, I’ll go ahead and blow out the first several of your arguments.
Were these the politics of Jesus? Let’s take a look:
On defense: Jesus said “Love your enemies” and “Blessed are the peacemakers.” “If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:44; 5:9; 5:39.)
STRIKE ONE FOR TONY:
Interesting. Nowhere in there does it say “If your enemies try to kill you, allow them to do so.” Since this is your argument, I encourage you to make it completely (which you’ve thus far failed to do): How does this equate to national defense? I see clearly where it’s giving guidelines for people, but nowhere do any of these texts indicate they have anything to do with national defense. — Bryan Ellis
On social programs: “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.” (Matthew 19:21.)
STRIKE TWO FOR TONY:
Here again there is nothing in this text about social programs. This says that PEOPLE should give to those in need - and the more that we are forced to give money to the government for their inept and decisively failed programs, the less we are able to give directly to organizations that actually help people. This text says NOTHING about government tax policy and or social programs, does it? The answer: No, it doesn’t. — Bryan Ellis
On rugged individualism and the pursuit of self-interest: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” “So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 22:39; 7:12.)
STRIKE THREE FOR TONY:
You’ve totally failed to say anything about how individualism and self-interest conflicts with either of the passages above. I know why you’ve not made that case, but if you’d like to attempt to do that now, feel free. — Bryan Ellis
THREE STRIKES AND YOU’RE OUT. But this is fun, so I’ll continue for another point or two…
On financial success: “Truly, I say unto you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.” “You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 19:23; 6:24.)
Tony, Tony, Tony. Wow. I’m sorry that you believe that Jesus Christ espouses financial failure, but He just doesn’t. This passage says it will be “hard” for a rich man to enter heaven. What does it mean that something is “hard” to do? It means it can be done, albeit with effort. While I know that you believe that one should rely on government for everything, some of us believe in working hard - and only a mentally limited person would think that having high financial standards is the same as serving money over serving God.
Frankly, you’re not making any sense or rational points whatsoever. — Bryan Ellis
On the philosophy that “greed is good”: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15.)
Frankly, this is idiocy. “Greed is good” is not a conservative or Christian mantra. That’s a phrase that was uttered in the movie “Wall Street” by Michael Douglas - a famous liberal, no less. — Bryan Ellis
On paying taxes: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” (Matthew 22:22.)
Where’s the problem? Wow Tony, you’re really reaching, aren’t you? We don’t refuse to pay taxes that are legally due. Liberals tend to do that (such as Woody Harrelson who didn’t like certain government policies and deducted money from his tax returns). But conservatives and Christians don’t have a policy of refusing to pay taxes that are legally due — Bryan Ellis
On crime and punishment: “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (John 8:7; Matthew 7:1,2.)
Notice that this addresses *SIN* and not *CRIME*. This is a perfect example of how liberals refuse to understand that words have specific meaning. Sin and crime are not the same thing. Sin is an action contrary to God. Only God can judge that. Crime is an action contrary to human law. Humans can judge that, and nowhere does the Bible contradict that. That’s why we conservatives believe that law should be enforced. — Bryan Ellis
On climbing the social ladder: “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’” (Matthew 11:19.)
Really reaching, aren’t you? What is your point here, exactly? — Bryan Ellis
On money-hungry televangelists: “In the temple courts [Jesus] found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and other sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.” (John 2:14,15.)
Wow, you’re reaching backwards decades for that one. Way to go. But just for fun, I’ll give you this one: If you see any sheep or cattle in a temple, feel free to run them out. — Bryan Ellis
On the free lunch: “Taking the five loaves and two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves… The number of those who ate was about five thousand men…” (Matthew 14:19,21.)
Brainlessness, Tony. Absolutely brainless. What are you talking about? There is no conservative or Christian position referred to as “free lunch”. But isn’t this just an excellent example where Jesus made the 5 loaves and 2 fish into enough food to feed five thousand men? It’s a wonderful example of the miracle working power of God, and it’s also an example of how different things would be had Obama been in power back then - Jesus would have had to pay about half of those resources to the government, and about 2,500 people would have gone hungry that day. — Bryan Ellis
On the perks and privileges of power: “After that, [Jesus] poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13:5.)
You’re making this too easy. This story is clearly a demonstration of humility. What is your objection to humility? — Bryan Ellis
On moral absolutes: “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?” “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” (Matthew 12:11; Mark 2:27.)
This is about the Sabbath, and has nothing to do with moral absolutes. Do you suggest that there is not such a thing as good and evil? I suspect you do not believe in good and evil. It is impossible to do so as a liberal. Everything has to be “relative” for liberalism to work, doesn’t it? (Example: It’s “ok” to make under $300K per year - or maybe $250K - or maybe $200K - or maybe $150K - but making more than that entitles one to financial punishment.) — Bryan Ellis
On family: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he cannot be my disciple.” Also: “‘Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?’ Pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers.’” (Luke 14:26; Matthew 12:48,49.)
Interesting. This text has relevance in the context of the Jewish culture of the time, and is very well understood not to conflict with God’s commandments to honor your father and mother. However, rather than discussing 1st century Jewish culture, why don’t you go ahead and explain what you think this means? — Bryan Ellis
On race relations: In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus praised the morality of a hated foreigner over his own countrymen. (Luke 10:30-37.)
Here again, you’re twisting the Scriptures. This has nothing to do with race. It’s an admonition against hate. Get your details straight, my contextually irrelevant friend. — Bryan Ellis
On the superiority of one’s native country: “These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.’” (Matthew 10:5,6.)
Hahahahahahaha! There’s NOTHING in that quote regarding the superiority of one’s native country - Absolutely nothing! And by the way - America is the greatest country in the world because of the people who believe it and behave accordingly. — Bryan Ellis
On letting others pull themselves up by their own bootstraps: “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” (Luke 14:13,14.)
That’s exactly what conservatism and Christianity is about. That’s why we are all so very aggressive in giving to help those who need it. Note that this passage does NOT say - “when you give a banquet, give your money to the government and allow them to invite whomever they deem worthy.” It says when YOU do things, help people who can’t help themselves. This is not what liberalism believes. — Bryan Ellis
Modern Christian conservatives may be horrified, but there is no getting around the fact: Jesus was not just a liberal, but a radical liberal! In fact, except for one pronouncement on divorce, there is not one text in all four Gospels which even remotely supports or resembles the conservative’s most cherished beliefs. It is a standing challenge to the religious right to find a list of Gospel texts, as I have provided here, which advocates the conservative’s philosophies. Not one Christian can give a single example, because these texts do not exist.
Wrong-o, Tony. You’ve done nothing more than taken a few texts and applied improper contextual meaning. In fact, I’d be delighted to publicly discuss this in front of the hundreds of people that I can put on a teleconference. Ready for that? — Bryan Ellis
Question are you still a Christian? If so welcome to Liberalism in the most radical way!
You’re a fool. Christianity is about believing in Jesus Christ, not about being a liberal - despite Obama’s positioning himself as the Messiah. To my way of thinking, some of your comments border on blasphemy, but that’s your choice. — Bryan Ellis
I think Obama’s got this one! And you said he was a terroist and a muslim, go figure!
I never said he was a muslim or a terrorist. But he has a clear connection with terrorists and marxists. A very poor pedigree indeed. — Bryan Ellis
Well, NOWHERE did Jesus say that it’s GOVERNMENT’S responsibility to behave in the manner you iterated, but is INDIVIDUALS OF FAITH’S imperative, through choice, to behave this way.
Government vs. individual behavior is a huge distinction that’s completely lost on radical liberals who, by force of government, COMPEL everyone to behave in the way THEY want others to live.
That’s why Nikita Khrushchev said…We can’t expect the American people to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism.
I will (as most of the rest of you) be voting for John McCain. He has devoted his most of his life to this country. I also feel that people should not be punished and have to pay for being wealthy. I am not wealthy (yet) but I have desire, determination, and know that this will pay off for me and my family in the near future. Why should I then have to pay for those in this country who choose to do nothing or give up? All Obama wants to do is continue to spend money and raise taxes. He does not have the experience needed to move this country forward. With that being said, I do not feel as though one man has the ability to change the current situation this country is in nor do I feel as though it was one man who put us here. We all need to work together and continue to pursue our own dreams and help others along the way when we can. We need to respect the lives of others and be understanding because we are all humans who make mistakes. It is our ability in this country to be able to pick ourselves up and start over and help and be kind to others who are in need that makes us a great nation. I do not believe we need the government to tell us how to do these things. We cannot look to the government to solve everything and keep bailing out companies who have made their own mistakes. I could go on and on but you guys know what I am trying to say. This is just my opinion and of course you are entitled to yours.
Hey Caitlyn don’t give me your opinion, I gave scriptures to back up my point. I am just the messenger, if you don’t like what Jesus said you have to take up that issue with you know who.
So bring on your proof? You stated what Nikita Khrushchev said but what about Jesus said? Where are the scriptures to back up your point of view of what Jesus said?
Maybe you better let Bryan handle this one too.
Again, Tony, where did Jesus say that GOVERNMENT should be in charge of the PERSONAL characteristics you quoted? He was talking to PEOPLE, not heads of GOVERNMENT, right?
You don’t seem to grasp the distinction.
LET’S GET REAL HERE. I’m a Republican, and would like to see a Republican running for President. Unfortunately, Carl Rove has taken over yet another Presidential campaign, and now Senator McCain has been drawn into the same Neo-Con politics that the Cheney-Bush Amin has, and will most likely do as they have done - trashed everything American that we worked for over 224 years: our foreign policy, our relationship with the world, and lately a balanced budget, free enterprise and the dollar.
I’m voting American, and won’t be conned by another Neo-Con who I call McSame, so I will support Obama unless he has a wide lead in Colorado, then it will be a firm constitutionalist.
After reading all the comments above and carefully thinking about what I’ve learned from both candidates, it’s clear to me that investors are just as biased as any other group. Most of you think that McCain is the better choice given the alternative. Well, McCain is DEFINITELY not the right choice either. As a matter of fact, he worries me more because I think he’s going to lead us into more wars around the world, alienate us from our allies and create more bigotry in the U.S. And that’s alright with most of you as long as you have the opportunity to make your money. What a shame. One of the wealthiest men in the world, Warren Buffet, will be voting for Obama. I wonder why. Is it because he thinks that Obama will be worse for the country? No. He said that he believes it’s his duty and obligation to pay more taxes than the person who cleans his office (which is not the case right now!). I think I believe and respect Mr. Buffet’s opinion over most of yours. Sorry Bryan, but I disagree with you on this one. I think Anthony is absolutely correct in this case.
Tony keep in mind people that say that they know what the bible says really don’t that is why you want get a response about a bible scriptures, because as a whole most of them don’t know what the bible says, so when ever you hear a republican talk about they are christian what they are really talking about is separation, that is what a lot of there churches preach, most of the republicans are part of a fundamentalism moment check it out. so as you can see they will never agree with what the bible says, because if they do they will have to realize that what they really believe is wrong. They will defend Bush to the end even though it is very apparent that most people in the united states and the world for that matter thinks that we need chance and that chance will not be mccain so republicans get over it, and I mean get over it fast
Hey Ben and Lee — I’m supporting McCain and I get my news from PBS (the most liberal station), not Fox news! I cannot stand the views of Rush Limbaugh or most other right wing Republicans. Nevertheless, I will not support Obama with his vague promises and lack of experience.
Tony — Since you are such a great Christian and you apparently obey every Bible text, I will really appreciate it next time you sell a house if you send me all your profits since you sure don’t want to get rich. Hey, what are you doing in this business anyway? Are you really just working in real estate so you can give all the profits away?
Come on people, we can disagree, but let’s try to keep it on an intelligent and reasonable level. I hope that as I profit from real estate, I will be able to give more to charity and find ways to help the less fortunate, not to mention the jobs I will give to others on my way (contractors, etc). But that’s my personal goal, and I think I can find better ways to do that than to have the government force me to pay more in taxes, and then waste a large part of what they collect before it ever gets to the people they are supposedly helping.
Too bad the Libertarian Party was not a major voting block.
All this talk about Obama being a socialist . . fooey . . Isn’t the failout and the resulting federalzation of our banking system socialism? You Betcha! (wink) Seems that you all love capitalism until you need a bailout. Then you become socialists but call it something else to make it palatable.
Obama or McCain . . either way we are intercoursed. Let’s at least make a change of direction and make some new mistakes instead of repeating the ones that got us here as if those mistakes will self correct. They will not.
As far as Obama’s “spread the wealth around” comment, I do not believe he intends to be Robin Hood. If you listen to he has been consistently been delivering for two years now it is easy to deduce that his meaning was to create opportunities through education, economic incentives to create and keep jobs here (which incidentally will benefit us by creating demand for housing), ending our misadventure in Iraq and keeping that money here where it belongs, etc. and thereby restore the American dream, (which, face it, is on it’s death bed) giving everyone a better chance in sharing in it. That, unfortunately, will require a bit of taxes to pay for. We could always opt to let our grandchildren’s grand children pay for it as has been the policy of the Republican party for some time now but I can think of nothing short of treason more unpatriotic. So think of it as an investment in the present and a down payment on the future for your children because when everyone does better then everyone does better.
Catlyn, you say “Government vs. individual behavior is a huge distinction that’s completely lost on radical liberals who, by force of government, COMPEL everyone to behave in the way THEY want others to live.”
At the risk of making an ass of u and me I will assume you are not a liberal and ask if you can say
Terry Shiavo ?
Constitutional amendments to “define” marriage (neo-con speak for ban gay marriage)?
“Real Americans” - thank you Sarah Palin?
reverse Roe v Wade?
etc.
Who gave the republicans and religious right the right to tell us all how to live?
I laugh every time I read about how bad it’s been over the last 2 years with the Democratic congress. Excuse me……We have suffered thru an abysmal 8 years of the Bush administration and 12 of the last 14 years under a Republican congress!!! I even had to laugh when I saw Newt Gingrich on a news show say the reason he was against Kerry was because he thought Kerry would nationalize the banks. He and everyone at the table laughed too. Bush accomplished that! McCain, in his own words, says he has voted 90% of the time with Bush. And we’re suppose to believe as president anything is going to change policy-wise???? And we’re suppose to believe he’s such a maverick??? We are in a GLOBAL economic meltdown due to this Administration and its policies and his voting 90% of the time with this administration doesn’t scream change to me!!!!! Don’t be fooled…..whoever is elected president, your taxes will go up. It’s going to be painful for everyone….regardless of party. Presently, my husband, son, and I have all been laid off from our jobs. Believe me, I have incentive to make my real estate business successful. Did you know that McCain voted against extending unemployment benefits???? Also, on Meet the Press this morning, a clip was played where McCain–in his own words–said he believed in quote spreading the wealth around unquote. hhmmmmm, you mean deep down he believes the same thing as Obama????? OMG!
Socialism???? Hello people……what do you think government subsidies are (ie. farm, sugar, etc)????? Are not government grants and scholarships a form of socialism?? Taking money collected in taxes and distributing it to anyone who asks and you don’t have to pay it back??? In the 1930’s the Republicans denounced as socialism the Hoover programs that were put in place to help our country out of the great depression…..the same programs that helped this country on it’s way to become the economic power of the world.
At first I liked Sarah Palin. I thought that’s the end for the democrats. At the time I was actually an undecided Independent. But, as time went on and I learned more about her and listened to her, I quickly came to the conclusion that she is absolutely NOT ready to be President of the United States. And there is a high probability that she would be President if the ticket is elected. And as far as a maverick…….she will be politics as usual people. Instead of staying in the governor’s residence she has the people of Alaska pay her per diem so she can commute back and forth. She has the people of Alaska pay travel expenses for her kids (and if there wasn’t anything wrong with it she wouldn’t have gone back and amended the expense reports after she was nominated. McCain says she and her family are frugal…..that $500K house they live in 1st dude built….ok…….but did they have to use the building materials from a project the taxpayers of Alaska were paying for????? Sounds like business as usual to me. And her $150K wardrobe and $22K for her makeup and hair???? (Her makeup/hair person is the highest paid advisor on the McCain campaign staff!!!!) That certainly shows the judgment and priorities of the McCain campaign…….
I watched Colin Powell when he endorsed Obama for President. He was very eloquent. He made a very eloquent point when he said so what if Obama had been Muslin. I remember when JFK ran for office there was a lot of concern over the fact that he was …….gasp…….Catholic!!!!! This country is founded on the principle of freedom of religion. But….newsflash…..Obama is a Christian. It pains me when I hear supposed Christians dinigrate a fellow Christian the way Obama has been.
I voted undecided in your poll, not because I’ve not made a decision, but because neither of the “two major choices” represent any of the change they suggest. I made my decision to support and promote Ron Paul early in the primary season. It’s unfortunate that we’re left, once again, with two completely divisive choices from the major parties. There are other voices that major media outlets choose to ignore for a number of questionable reasons. Ron Paul has been forecasting these current financial woes and preaching small gov’t, low taxes, non-interventionist foreign policy, sound money backed by something other than paper and ink, strong personal rights and strong private property rights for over 30 years. Not enough people bothered to listen when it mattered during the primaries, but he did a great job of raising awareness of these issues among an impressive number of people.
Ron Paul will always be my President. As for these other two… Ugh.
Sadly what this country really needs isn’t ‘change’. It needs a do over. The government should fear its people not the other way around. I believe in a free economy, one individual, one vote.
Anytime you introduce a third party, you taint the balance. Whether it be a regulating agency, healthcare insurance, or a congressman. Buying of congress memebers to me is the worst crime against humanity. If a company wants to buy my vote, you can negotiate directly with me thank you very much.
Ron Paul in ‘08 or revolution in ‘09, its your choice.
I have been reading the posts and I will choose to side with Bryan in his rebuttals.
I will also say, whenever someone uses a text from the Bible to support ones thinking because you do not give the text before and after or the reason the text is there in the first place you can make it sound good, but no factual intent of why it was written.
However when addressing what the Bible calls us individually to do there are many text’s supporting the same theme:
Allow me to add the following I will ask you to take upon yourself to read the entire chapter of Psalm 118 but will point out the following:
Vs 8 & 9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes (presidents, kings, dictators etc.)
I am not here to tell you who you should vote for but will say no matter who wins this election CHANGE will be a reality. No matter what you may feel about our current president NO ONE MAN has or will ever have the answers or be the savior or messiah.
If you listen to the news media (I don’t) my opinion of the anchor man/woman is rightly put as they weigh you down with everything that is suppose to be wrong, bad, doubtful etc. like a boat anchor holding a ship in place. YOU NEVER ARE going to get any where with a purpose.
Since the beginning of man and woman God gave them each the ability to choose, unfortunately they choose to listen to the destroyer a fell into sin. They both began what we still have today BLAME, each blamed someone else for their new predicament.
WE do not live in a perfect world any longer and until God calls us home the BIBLE tells us we need to be accountable for our own choices in life and we then will live with the circumstances our individual choices brought us to.
Government will NEVER be answer to the situations we get ourselves in, anyone that thinks that way is following the path of BLAME and not responsibility, weather you believe in God or not does not relieve you of your own responsibility. If there is a God and a heaven and hell and the BIBLE IS THE WORD OF God we can find comfort knowing that from the beginning of the fall HE had a plan put in motion which was carried out by HIS son Jesus Christ who paid the debt once and for all and because of that WE now seek to follow HIS teachings in out life.
WE are responsible, not somebody else
WE are called to heal this land, not somebody else
WE are to help the poor and sick, not somebody else (teaching someone how to fish NOT giving them a fish)
WE are called to take care of the resources and water God gave us, Not somebody else.
Before you pull that tab or mark the ballot KNOW what you are voting for ultimately
WE do not have a perfect candidate in itself but there is a different philosophy behind each.
Which philosophy do you think most aligns to put US in the responsibility seat and not the government?
Choose Wisely my Friends.
There is ALWAYS a price to pay.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert
Anybody who believes in Obama is sadly a fool. I’m not saying McCain is much better. There isn’t a good presidential candidate running. But I will not vote for a naked Marxist. My 80% friend is not my 20% enemy. So McCain it is. And the guy/gal who said they’d be voting American by way of BHO is the biggest fool of all. People like you are what’s wrong with this county. You don’t pay attention. You buy into the platitudes and talking point. Hussein Obama was not even born in this county. He was born in Kenya. Some very powerful, highly respected lifelong liberal democrats are challenging B.O.’s eligibility to even be president since he’s not a natural born citizen……
On another note, I don’t even know why I get frustrated and angry anymore since this is all prophecy to me. The people are being fooled and the county is destroying itself. Redistribution of the wealth is just one more chink in the amour of prophecy. My friends put your houses in order and prepare yourselves for the coming days. It may be in a year, it may be in ten. But it IS coming down to the wire. Mark my words: The constitution will hang by a thread. People who create jobs in this country will take their money and their jobs and flee under and oppressive B.O. Democrat run socialistic government. Huge gun restrictions will be put in place ten times worse than those under Clinton and people know it which is why gun sales are up 45%. Taxes will be oppressive for anyone making $60k or more. There is simply NO WAY B.O.’s tax plan on the wealthy can generate enough revenue. The math just doesn’t work. MARK MY WORDS. If B.O. is elected I will come back in two or three years to say “I told you so”.

Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America:

James, I think you’re the fool. People like you have been spreading this type of propaganda ever since Obama announced his intention to run for President. Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Hawaii! The last I checked, Hawaii was one of the states of the United States of America. He is an American. Certainly more so than Arnold the Governator, who wants to change the laws so that he can run for President. Suprisingly, a lot of Republicans support him in doing so. Imagine that: some people in America would rather see an Austrian born white man become President, before an American born black man. Kind of makes you think huh?
Taxes is the least thing this country has to worry about now, so if that’s all we have to worry about from Obama, then I think we’ll be just fine. You really should be worried about McCain and Palin. Combined, they both have no clue how to fix the problems of this country. McCain keeps spouting the same ole Republican rhetoric: pork barrel spending, raising taxes, bigger government. I’m not saying that these aren’t issues, but fixing them won’t fix the country. And don’t get me started on Palin. The Republicans should be embarrased about her even being on the ticket. She is in no way ready (nor will she ever be ready) to run this country. Simply put, she’s just not smart enough.
You Repubs voted Bush into office TWICE! So I don’t think we can trust your judegment when it comes to picking Presidents. Obama is the only choice for turning this country around. McCain would be just more Bush, and we obviously don’t want more of that.
Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30, I celebrate my independence day and on July 4, I celebrate America’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said “Praise the Lord.” And when the young leader said, “I will be for change and I’ll bring you change,” everyone yelled, “Viva Fidel!”
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to third world status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?
Would we?
Manuel Alvarez Jr.

Think it can’t happen here? Just wait. If Nobama’s elected, we’re well on our way to becoming socialized.
