In recent days, we’ve discussed the notion of using PowerPoint and Camtasia to create videos for increasing your search engine marketing results.
Today, I show you exactly what to do with those videos. Please read these instructions COMPLETELY before acting on them.
The fundamental idea with video marketing is to create a simple video which directs traffic to your website (you’ve already learned how to do this), then upload that video to various video sharing services in such a way that the video page itself will rank well for specific search terms of your choice.
So, let’s break it down right now:
Step 1:
In just a moment, I’ll teach you how to easily and conveniently upload your videos to the prime video sharing websites. But before you do that, there are 3 pieces of information that you must determine for each video:
- Title
- Description
- Tags
A Title is a phrase of your choice that briefly describes the video. The title should BEGIN with the keyword phrase for which you want the video to rank, such as “Haddon Place Apartments” or “106 Wynnfield Blvd”. For example, if you want to target a residential development called “Generic Residential Development”, then you’d certainly want those words to appear at the beginning of your video title, such as:
Generic Residential Development - Fine Homes in Anytown, USA
Notice that the title BEGINS with the primary keyword phrase and in this example is followed by related keyword phrases (”homes”, “anytown, USA”). This is a formula that has worked very well for me.
The title should be relatively short- probably no more than 7-10 words since it will be common that the only part of the title seen in the search engines will be the first few words.
A Description is a longer block of text that describes the video. Like the title, the description should begin with the primary keywords for which you want to be ranked. But a description can be longer, and I usually try to make my descriptions somewhere in the 20-40 word range (though the limits vary depending on the particular video service that hosts your videos).
As I said, the Description should begin with the primary keyword phrase for which you want to be ranked, but you can include a sentence or two in addition. Those sentences should contain other keywords that are important to you.
A Tag is just a word/short phrase that describes an attribute about a video. It’s like a “keyword” or “phrase” that describes the video. You’re generally allowed to enter multiple tags to describe your videos, and I always enter at least 3-5. The first tag should be the keyword/phrase that you used at the beginning of your title and description. The other tags should be words or phrases for which you hope to rank your video.
So in conclusion for step 1, select the Title, Description and Tags you’ll use for each video that you’d like to rank in the search engines.
Step 2:
This step must be completed only one time.
You must create free accounts at the following video hosting/distribution services:
In creating your accounts, please be aware that the USER NAME you select is very important because it’s quite possible that your “Profile Page” at these websites can receive rankings just as well as your individual video pages. (A “profile page” is where a LIST of all the videos you’ve uploaded can be found. A “video page” is the page where an individual video is displayed.) So it makes very good sense to select a user name that matches a primary keyword for which you would like to rank.
Step 3:
Create a free video distribution account at TubeMogul.
TubeMogul is a service that allows you upload a video one time and have that video automatically and freely distributed to all of the above-listed video hosting sites. It is a huge time saver and I use it a lot.
Here’s a video explaining how to “Deploy” a video using TubeMogul:
So here’s what to do now:
- Create your presentation and record it as a video
- Determine the Title, Tags and Description for your video
- Create your video sharing accounts
- Set up your TubeMogul account and Deploy your video!
Tomorrow I’ll share some more advanced strategies on video marketing and how to select your keywords for highest probability of good search engine rankings. But for now, please complete this assignment and let me know below if you have any questions!
